Bad Idea: a homeopathic alchemist protagonist for a video game. Instead of fighting stronger enemies as the game progresses, the protagonist adds more ingredients to potions and becomes weaker over time.

weakerdefensively stronger over time.FTFY? There's got to be some game that has that...

I know what most of those words mean individually, but...

@ben_lubar Um, that's weird. That should have been in the Context-Less Quotes thread... Mind jeffing that out for me?
Or, I could provide context instead....

Jeffing what, exactly?
The @end.
-
@ben_lubar obtaining vials of water would dilute the potions, thereby making them super effective.
-
@anotherusername what happens if a homeopathist drinks pure H2O? Do they explode because they have an infinite dosage of every medicine in them?
-
@ben_lubar They get cholera from the traces of shit left behind
-
@ben_lubar So, that's the reason why you shouldn't drink distilled water!

He should stick to teaching grampa…
-
@Maciejasjmj Reminds me of something I saw recently. It was a couple tweets that went something like this (wildly paraphrasing here):
Sexist: noun. Men who <some inane accusation of sexist behaviour>
Stupid: adjective. Woman who can't tell nouns from adjectives.

-
@bb36e I don't remember what the actual word was, I was only paraphrasing, but that was the sentiment as far as I interpreted.
-
@bb36e That's actually pretty accurate as a descriptive definition (how the word is commonly used) as opposed to a prescriptive definition (how the word is supposed to be used).

It should be fairly routing though, what with Websockets closing and whatever else is breaking.

I don't know what those words mean in that order, but if @blakeyrat hadn't abandoned forum, he'd probably insult @ben_lubar about it.

Wow autocorrect. I tried typing "routine".
Apparently I've been messing with networks a bit too much lately.

Hmm, @Magus, when did you change your avatar? Was it more or less than about a month ago?
-
@ben_lubar Maybe three weeks? I was thinking two, but it might have been three. Whenever it was that I was getting Cyber Sleuth.
-
@Magus shit, your avatar was uploaded 2016-07-27T22:20:24Z and the post announcing the fixed bug was made at 2016-07-28T22:29:54Z.

2!!!1!!1!!1!!
@Tsaukpaetra that's quite a big number if the multiplications come before the factorials
How do you work that out, exactly?
1! = 1 and 2! = 2, so it doesn't even matter what order you do the multiplications and factorials in, at the end you'll get 2.
-
@Scarlet_Manuka I worked it out by SHUT THE FUCK UP

Not sure where the bad idea was, there... bad luck, perhaps, but unless they were doing something grossly foolish (e.g., not checking that there was no stray water in the mold, removing the crucible from the kiln the wrong way, pouring it from the crucible too fast, etc.) and I missed it, I don't see a mistake per se. IANA expert in metal casting, so I may just not know what they did wrong.
-
@ScholRLEA It looks like something in the mould explosively evaporated.
-
@PleegWat That was my impression, too, but the video didn't seem to show any visible liquid in the mold. Hard to say. Since we didn't see their preparations, we don't know if they pre-heated the mold or not (which I am assume you would usually do, both to prevent inconsistent cooling, and to drive off any water).
-
Explosive evaporation was what I thought as well. And from other reading, I recollect that this is why the mold must be absolutely dry: if it's damp (even invisibly damp) this is the kind of problem you get.
Fortunately, he appears to have had sufficient protection.

Although I'm going to guess from the way he took off his gloves quickly and threw them that some of the metal stuck to the gloves and solidified there. Even the best gloves won't protect your hands from the heat for very long.

I agree. Probably why he shed them so fast.
Reminds me of a joke. The setting was one of those old west ghost towns turned into a tourist attraction. The guy that was running the blacksmith shop had taken a horseshoe out of the forge and it had just had long enough to stop showing red when a tourist picked it up to look at it...and put it down again really fast.
The proprietor asked, concerned, "Burn yourself?"
The tourist replied, "No, I was just done looking at it, that's all."
Same with the gloves: after having molten metal spattered onto them, he was just through with them, that's all.

Yeah, BTDT. I've learned the hard way to hold my hand near a piece of metal to check for heat before touching it. Even so, I still have occasional mental lapses.
