Where are we going with this?

my position is that unless @ben_lubar is being compensated a fair rate for his time he should not waste time explicitly testing the forum on a browser version that is nearly three years past end of life.
I think a pan of cupcakes is fair compensation for Ben L's time.

@bb36e the Mozilla page on 3D view suggested this plugin to replace it:

FF23 changed the icon to a goddamn stupid flat icon.
What's the FF22 icon, again? I found screenshots of the FF23 icon and it doesn't look flat.
Here's the current icon. Is it horrible?

@blakeyrat or a plate of frozen spaghetti.

Not a FF22
Correct, technically.
It's a FF issue.

Yes. Yes they are.
In compaision to hambugger [sic] menus?
Depends on the implementation of both, but generally, yes

At least I can use hamburger menus on all the devices I use. I can't use dropdowns on every device. Because touchscreen.
Besides, dropdowns are almost as confusing as the hamburger menu. Because they lack precisely the same ui cues.

Can we please get past the Metro failosophy of "UI must be the same everywhere!!!!! Reduce usability to match least usable device!!!"

If only I believed that...
I ETA'd my post to add in why dropdowns are so bad.
Namely because they have exactly the same problems, only they're also not usable on touch devices.

I'm pretty sure that is not their failosophy. It's every app has to reinvent the wheel and look different so no one knows how things work.

Not all dropdown menus are that bad; I prefer a dropdown labelled "History" to a hamburger menu with an item labeled "History" that leads to another menu with basically the same contents as the History dropdown.

let it die man, let it die.
You forgot to direct that to @Lorne-Kates.
-
@accalia said in Where are we going with this?:
but you shouldn't waste your time and effort supporting a platform version that is no longer supported by the developers of the platform.
Do you want to hear the neverending wails of LK about how his special snowflake software doesn't work here until the end of time? Or are you considering stopping tilting at the "front page doesn't upgrade to SSL" windmill? :)

I'm talking about the Windows 8/RT/Phone 8 fiasco. The tiles are actually better for mobile than what Android and iOS are doing, but have been permanently tainted by the horror that is using them on a massive screen with a KB and mouse.

It's also like 70% "you shouldn't use hamburger menus because it doesn't fit the iOS UI philosophy" so...
-
@sloosecannon I felt like the article was unnecessarily stringing me on. There were a couple of sections (MAAASSSIVELY spaced out, of course) where the heading seemed to promise that he would give us the improved alternative.
When I eventually got there, I would agree that his alternative was an improvement, but I almost want to make more hamburgers just to punish him for doing something even worse with his article.
It was like those sites that space stuff out on tiny pages to show you more ads EXCEPT THERE WERE NO ADS JUST FILLER BULLSHIT.

Yes, that's my #1 grievance, if you don't read anything else I've ever written. Good jorb. You are xof@ will get along just nicely.
Speaking of dumbasses who lob baseless accusations, you still haven't cited a single instance where I was a dick about something broken ONLY in FF22 (that couldn't be implemented sanely as to avoid breaking other browsers, too).
-
@Lorne-Kates said in Where are we going with this?:
And then they start doing shittier and shittier things like forcing "tiles on new screen"
Good news:

Stolen off the Tilt 3D addon page:
https://addons.cdn.mozilla.net/user-media/previews/full/62/62220.png?modified=1316913524
It allows you to quickly visualize the hierarchy of elements.Edited to add: Tilt 3D goes even further it seems:
A requested feature was the ability to export the visualization as a 3D mesh, to be used in games or other 3D editors. Tilt adds the ability to export to .obj, along with a material .mtl file and a .png texture (a screenshot of the entire webpage).
