The answer reveals itself - of course you need a Ruby server for those static files

And now for your regularly scheduled dose of Jeffisms...
Jeff: for when admitting there might be a better way to do it just won't do.

Check that users private messages and it should be clearI thought King Jeff™ himself stopped them being called private messages because, y'know, they weren't (as proven by that reply).

My guess is because they are a New user (i.e. they didn't spend any time looking around) and they went straight to posting.On a forum, of all places!

Is this from recent deprecation stuff?
I added acceptance tests for stuff that broke with the deprecation.How many terms can they use incorrectly?
-
@boomzilla I think they just use "big" words in the hope it distracts the reader from realising they've not a clue what they're doing.
-
@loopback0 That's more credit than I'm prepared to extend to them.

Remember, breaking browser functionality is PERFECTLY OKAY, because we can Do It Better!
owait...
Search-in-topic doesn't find some text. Here's a ton of screenshots
we already fixed a bug where s-i-t didn't work with less than 20 posts because we just never load that shit into the dom
It... it isn't that
{cue literally 3 weeks of the discodevs flailing like Kermit's arms}
owait... turns out when we do the server-side search, there's a condition in the WHERE clause that says "Where user's nice name is not blank". Except some users have blank names. So we ignore all their posts in in-topic search. I wonder if we should fix this
{cue bikeshedding on COALESCE}
Breaking browser functionality. A stupid idea. Always. Forever. (tm)

@Lorne-Kates Search-in-topic doesn't work at all here, unlike Discourse.
Try typing
in:topic-17231 bikeshed
into the search field here.

Normal search also doesn't work, even when you provide it a topic title verbatim. (It'll come up, but not in the first page of results.)
EDIT: oh sure it works for this thread. Way to prove me wrong, NodeBB! Pfft.

E_NO_REPRO. My search-in-thread works perfectly.
edit but oneboxing imageshack doesn't work perfectly.
-
@Lorne-Kates How do you search for something in the entire thread, not just the page you're on?
-
@aliceif I get Error: No Plugins Available. Firefox... Pulls up a Node search box that doesn't seem to work.
-
@CHUDbert I swear that I saw...something...somewhere...at...some point...about "in topic" searching on NodeBB, but I couldn't find it just now.
-
@aliceif @boomzilla There's a profile setting to enable it.
-
@coldandtired Which doesn't magically make that work.
Activating that setting makes CTRL+F pre-fill the search box with the in:topic-xxxx thing. Doesn't change the result at all.

It enables an error.

To provide the response we allknow and loveare Stockholmed to expect...: Hey guys, what's up with this feature, it doesn't behave like I'd expect
: Oh, I think that was a test feature that leaked through, what branch are you on?
: Why is it named in topic search? We don't have topics, we have messages! @ techapj what's going on with this?
: We're on tests passed, which is what you set up for us originally...
: Oh, yeah, tests passed isn't really meant for stable communities, you should switch to b---

@izzion LOL. Though...I tried it over there and it worked.

we use Contoso Widget Mangler.
it seems that Contoso Widget Mangler does not support feature X. Oracle Widget Mangler support feature X, but you also need to sell your soul to the devil.
is displaying the button for feature X a bug, then?
yes. I will go fix that even though it is not my job to do so.MEANWHILE IN A NEARBY UNIVERSE

Maybe someone needs to beat some sense into iFaily until it realizes that onebox occurs only on a new line, not in the middle of a sentence?

At least ASP.Net doesn't onebox.

That's a shame. Look what you're missing:
I didn't read the whole thing, but here's the end of the (rather large) second post:
Who is going to write the VB of Modern Software Architecture?
I am working to launch The Visual Basic Network to do exactly that. This is about the Magic that was VB, not necessarily the language. Though several parts will be written in VB.Net.
This is an Open Source Project that will be pulling in lots of information, sorting, analyzing and forking it to built something truly magical.
Want to be a part of that? Keep checking back as I incrementally release iterative updates.
Yes, I know this layout completely suxors... That's all part of the plan, watch it emerge into something different.

Whispers are an amazing idea that has no drawbacks.
Reached end of thread. Sent a whisper to a mod. Then the OP sees that there's a reply FROM ME, but can't see it-- so emails me asking what it was. Also it counts towards my postcount. Doesn't this defeat the purpose of "secret"?
Fuck you that would require REWRITING THE ENTIRE APPLICATION. Stop using whispers as the last reply!!!! YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG!!!! Why haven't you read the entire support forum already we've already discussed this!!!!!!!!
Whispers. Done right. Done well. A Good Idea.
-
Post to mark whisper as read.
-
-
@Lorne-Kates LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
It is a bad idea to have the last reply in a public topic be a whisper.
So I guess you're supposed to conspire with another user (or use a sockpuppet?) to post a public post right after you post a whisper, to minimize the amount of time your whisper is the last reply.
-
@mott555 You have to use a PM with everybody who can see whispers to coordinate your whisper-posting. So you see it saves a lot of time over using a PM for that purpose.
