COMPLIMENT: New topics is a welcome feature
COMPLAINT: it was obviously not tested one iota, because the count in the header never changes, and that's about the most obvious thing ever to test

Agreed. Good start. For version 0.1a:
- If I switch what /unread does, it should remember from visit to visit. I set it to Watched, clicked back to /unread, it's on All
- I was hoping for something other than "Watched". I have one watched topic, and I don't even know how I did that. But there's a dozen topics I'm participating in (have posted a reply to). There's some that should be brought to my attention (I've been Mentioned in). There's others that I've read but haven't participated in, but also haven't ignored.

/unread/watched
is a separate endpoint from/unread
.

... is a great technical explanation one might give to another NodeBB developer. It isn't as useful to an end user who
just wants Grumpy Catclicks on /unread and expects to see what they had on screen last time they clicked on /unread.Knowing literally nothing about nodebb dev, but lots about web dev... can the URL that the unread icon points to change to /unread/whatever, depending on what the last visited "unread list" page was?
Also can we please fix the keyboard shortcuts so that CTRL-Enter submits, rather than CTRL-Enter opens the Preview pane?

Talking about obvious things... Why does it show existing threads I've been following as "new"?
The TIL or Quick Links threads are even from before the NodeBB migration...

This is Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems.
Blakeyrat didn't experience that problem.
Get your own damned thread.

It was set for "Show preview or send post if already shown." I reset it to just send the post.
-
@boomzilla Fang you berry mulch.

@Lorne-Kates said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:

Did you start the topic? That's probably how.
There's a button to watch other topics, but that's how most of mine got watched.

Yes, but I've started many topics.

Now the numbers go down as you read new topics, yay, but they never go BACK UP as new topics appear.
Seriously. Test shit. Test. At least spend like 30 seconds ensuring it works. Jesus.
-
@blakeyrat said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:

I haven't changed the code at all except for the update that added the unread filters.
-
@ben_lubar Just suffice it to say whatever bugs COULD occur are occurring, since nobody tested the fucking thing.
-
@boomzilla said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:
@blakeyrat It's too bad he didn't stick with that username past the migration.
You're dealing with someone who doesn't read what other people write. He probably hasn't noticed the name change yet.

No, that was @JBert pointing out NodeBB problems. If you'd said "this is the Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems thread" you'd be right. Except someone would probably make a crack about how they're called topics for some reason.
-
@FrostCat Wait, @Polygeekery is Intercourse? I thought they were two different people who talked about penises a lot!

the bug in WebKit needs to be fixed
According to the bug tracker, it has been fixed for quite a while now:
-
@asdf Well, the article I linked to is approaching four years old; no surprise to find it's outdated.
Now to wait for the inevitable because I don't have an encyclopaedic knowledge of all 60,000 bugs in the Chrome/Chromium bugtracker...
-
@RaceProUK Imma have to do the Blakey thing here, sorry.
If it's a bug that was fixed in WebKit 2+ years ago, why is it still an issue on modern browsers? Does that mean there is something else that is the problem rather than an old bug report strawman?
-
@Arantor said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:

Starting with an advance apology? Gonna have to mark you down there :P

No freakin' idea.
@Arantor said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:

It seems that way, but it'll require some more investigation and experimentation. Mention of strawman though; might give you have for that.
Overall rating: 0.5 Blakeys; must try harder

Your web developer license has been revoked, please return your badge immediately. We will return your sanity back to you over the next couple of years.

Look, GoldfishUK, I don't care if some random bug was fixed. IT'S BROKEN NOW. Because someone is a brain dead developer!
-
This post is deleted!
-
@boomzilla Better, but needs more whaargarbl.
-
Wait, so now the new topics page is gone altogether? I guess that's one way to fix the bugs...
Look, I'm not saying I don't want the feature, I just want the feature to be tested for at least 53 seconds before PUBLISHED TO A LIVE SITE WITH LIVE DATA, I don't feel that's too much to ask.
-

So you are volunteering to help with testing?
-
@Polygeekery I dunno. I might if someone asked and I had time and they didn't make it a huge pain in the ass to do so.
But if you can't "afford" someone to do the testing, the solution isn't to just push the changes anyway, like a sociopath.

I'm her nonfursona.

Drag & Drop region still doesn't remotely match text entry region. It seems to me like this should be an easy fix, yes? Possibly CSS-only fix?
-
@Lorne-Kates Holy shit this emote:
Just startled me with sudden animation in the way I was trying to startle people with my Godzilla gif.
-
@blakeyrat you could even reinstate it now.
-
@Arantor Could I? I guess I could try it, if I can figure out my way into the profile editor thing again, a minefield of terrible UX...
EDIT: oh wait I can't. Not until I get home. I took that GIF offline.
-
@blakeyrat Test
Nope. Signatures silently strip out HTML tags without any warning, because of course they do? Why would anything on this forum not be buggy!
EDIT: You win, NodeBB, I can't defeat the sig cleaner.
EDIT EDIT: Oh shit, it allows animated GIF avatars, despite lying saying it doesn't. Rock on. It's buggy in a way that benefits me this time.
YESSSS my avatar is now the M.U.L.E.
-
@blakeyrat Fffffuuuuuuuuuck.
Please put up a non-animated avatar.
-
@boomzilla said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:

What do I get in return?
I like the M.U.L.E.
BTW my incredible super-elite hack to get past that protection was to, get this, click the "upload avatar" button, select "show all files" in the File -> Open dialog, and pick a GIF file from my desktop. I know, 1337 haxor skills at work there.

Continued permission to log in?
-
@boomzilla I'll think about it.
-
@blakeyrat Just kidding, I only ban discodevs and spammers. I'd probably just give you this for an avatar:

I'll take your word for it. I've had animated gifs disabled for damn near a decade now.
-
@boomzilla I would be pretty pissed if you banned me for this when other people have SPECIFICALLY SPENT TIME TRYING TO CRASH BROWSERS AND THE FORUM SOFTWARE (and have succeeded) in the past and didn't get even talked to about it.
You know who you are.
-
@blakeyrat I guess now you know where my priorities are.

@blakeyrat said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:

Yes... I actually posted a possible fix, but I don't know whether it'll work cross-browser or not.
-
@boomzilla Just too bad I don't have that Godzilla gif, it'd be awhile until anybody even realized it was animated.
-
The real question is how many people knew about this hack before, and quietly snuck in animated gifs with just a few occasional frames of animation.
-
@blakeyrat That's not so annoying. Animated avatars, OTOH.
