Don't edit @blakeyrat's topic titles
-
At this point, I really don't care anymore. It would just serve to prove my point, and then I could get back to work and enjoy a slight productivity boost. Might be for the better, seeing as I have Dangerous Opinions
-
I love that he's in here, because I think it's really strengthening my case that we need to prevent people like rc4 from getting TL3 permissions.
-
Oh yeah, I'm known for my constant abuse of *gasp* topic titles!
Oh, er, wait...
-
That was so mature! How does one make the moderation team around here? You sure are a fine, upstanding member of our community. Why I never met someone who displayed your level of maturity and levelheadedness in a leadership position.
Oh no, our moderation team are not shining paragons of ivory-tower virtue! WHO WILL LEAD US NOW! WHO WATCHES THE WATCHERS! We're doomed!
-
It would just serve to prove my point
Suicide by mod, eh?
That doesn't work on here.
Dangerous Opinions
How many leftist SJWs has @boomzilla banned yet?
-
We should make blakeyrat, rc4 and raceprouk mods. Just for the .
-
Oh, boomzilla is fine. I like boomzilla. He's probably my favorite staff. I used to like you a lot too, except you kept getting really pissy with me in discussions that didn't even originally involve you (think: Guacamole).
Not that any of this matters anyways.
-
I don't have a problem with you. I just think everyone should chill out on the title edits. And obviously blakey doesn't want his titles edited at all. It is pretty simple.
-
Oh no, our moderation team are not shining paragons of ivory-tower virtue! WHO WILL LEAD US NOW! WHO WATCHES THE WATCHERS! We're doomed!
No, but some of them are whiny pricks.
We should make blakeyrat, rc4 and raceprouk mods. Just for the .
I'm really curious to what you think I'd do. I don't really aim for abuse of power, even if I am an asshole.
-
Q: Should Blakey put in the title of this thread?
A:
[poll]
- Yes
- No
- I don't care
[/poll]
edit: just realized that some people might parse "abstain" as "no". It was supposed to be the "I didn't want/mean to vote but doesn't have a retract vote option".

No, but some of them are whiny pricks.
So? You're the one who does more whining than Blakey over here, but hell, for the sake of argument let's say I agree with your sentiment, them mods are all whiny pricks.
So?
-
They should stop acting like whiny children since they're allegedly supposed to be keeping the community in check, not fueling flamewars and airing their dirty laundry.
-
not fueling flamewars and whining about their own personal opinions.
Have you, perhaps, mistaken the forums?
-
edit: just realized that some people might parse "abstain" as "no". It was supposed to be the "I didn't mean to vote but doesn't have a retract vote option".
But it apparently lets you vote twice?
Filed under: at least there's one thing we can agree on, Discourse sucks
-
No, just once, but you can change the vote as many times as you want until the poll closes.
...then again, those percents suggest that there were 6 voters. Probably just because I've edited it and now it's confused.
-

Some people on this forum don't understand the difference between words and actions, and they don't get the "sticks and stones" principle.
So if I go into a thread and say something like, "everybody who uses KDE is a pulsating pile of cancerous shit", they'd assume (if I got moderator permissions) I'd go into KDE threads and start throwing edits and flags around, which could not be less true.
BlakeyratIsTheWorldestDumbestMoron
's the mod around here who's the most abusive, and he doesn't (generally speaking) talk like an asshole. The reality is there's absolutely no connection between "asshole" and "abusive moderation".But whatever, it's not like I'd accept anyway. I don't have enough time to even read the whole forum, much less moderate it. (I'm only posting so much today because I'm "working from home".)
-
I know you did. And purely out of spite; that's what I'm here complaining about.
What if we edit your topic titles out of humor? Is that acceptable?
-
Arantor's the mod around here who's the most abusive, and he doesn't (generally speaking) talk like an asshole. The reality is there's absolutely no connection between "asshole" and "abusive moderation".
Arantor isn't a mod. Did you mean abarker?
-
What if we edit your topic titles out of humor? Is that acceptable?
Still no.
But I'd be much less likely to make a thread like this one about it. Because at least you thought you were adding value to the forum.
-
Arantor isn't a mod. Did you mean abarker?
Oh. I meant the one who turned me green. I honestly thought it was Arantor. But whoever, it's ancient history now.
The point is:
- Mods can be assholes and not abusive, like Boomzilla
- Mods can be polite and still abusive
- There's no coorelation between niceness and quality of moderation
- I would hope anybody who's been on the Internets longer than a couple years would already know all these bulletpoints
-
>FWIW, this constant title changing gets on my nerves as well.
It's been funny for a while, but it has gotten out of control. It's next to impossible to find an old thread again.
Note that I have no problems with adding icons to thread titles. After all, I kinda started that habit when I added exotic Unicode characters to a few thread titles a year ago. It makes threads easier to recognize, and the marker is useful as well.

If you want the forum to be empty within a week, go ahead.

You really should read blakey's posts above. It's surprising for me to say that, but you really should.
-
If you want the forum to be empty within a week, go ahead.
That'd solve our Discourse problem!
-
@PJH !
Oh. Well whoever.
RaceProBowlUK: here's some evidence that I don't have a long memory for all the things that piss me off. For future reference.
-
I skimmed them. What exactly are you referring to?
Oh, BTW, just to clarify: I personally don't have a problem with either of you (blakeyrat, rc4 and raceprouk).
That'd solve our Discourse problem!
Well, at least Discourse was (probably?) the reason the only forum member I absolutely couldn't stand left. Otherwise, I would have never joined after leaving the old forum.

We should make […] raceprouk [a] mod
Fuck. No.RaceProBowlUK: here's some evidence that I don't have a long memory for all the things that piss me off. For future reference.
*files it under "Will Probably Never Use"*
A thought occurred to me on the way home from work: is it really beyond people's abilities to simply not click a button?
-
I don't click hundreds of buttons. For example, my dishwasher has one called "Plate Warmer", I ain't never clicked that shit.
Actually accalia laid-out the case pretty clearly in one of the posts linked to up-thread: the problem is that the post has my name on it, but as soon as someone edits it, it's no longer my work. But it retains my name. That's shitty.
The secondary problem which leads to that problem being an issue is that WAY too many people have permissions to edit other people's shit, and it's not even very difficult to earn those permissions.
-
Post !== title, though.
The title should describe the whole thread, and it's a collaborative effort. Not just your post.

That doesn't work!
Working is not what I'm known for around these parts. Or: You're just bitter that you lost to Carolina.
-
Post !== title, though.
That's not how Discourse is coded. Maybe it should be how a forum works, but it is not how Discourse works, and that's the piece of shit we're stuck with.
The title should describe the whole thread, and it's a collaborative effort. Not just your post.
I don't care what it should do. I care that other people are editing text that's in my name.
-
Or: You're just bitter that you lost to Carolina.
Fuck you and RacePanthersUK.
Oh wait that doesn't work either. But it's closer.
-
I care that other people are editing text that's in my name.
Just wait 'till you hear about "inspect element"...
*right clicks "blakeyrat"*

Go RaceProBroncos!

After reading this whole topic I have come to several conclusions and one question:
Conclusions:
- Everyone in here is an asshole. And I mean here as in "on planet earth".
- Some people don't like their
posts being emptytitles to be changed (holy hell, I aparently don't think while typing these posts...) - Some people actually go by topic names when selecting the topic to read instead of the obvious
heatmapcoldmap - Maybe if staff changes are made (including moderator / TL4 ones) this should be made more clear? Then again, I'd like to never even know if anybody is mod because that just devalues them!
- Arantor is Abarker is PJH and is probably in my longname :D
question:
Honest question, actually. @blakeyrat, Why don't you use the @-mention-thing?
Is it because you don't want people to see that you mentioned them (because thats how it looks from the outside)?!
Is it because you are afraid of spamming people?!
Are you seeing it as gamification?!Filed Under: now I need a new topic to read... oh well
-
There was someone here who didn't already know not to edit blakey's titles?!
-
This is our quarterly training session on blakeyquette. They're required every so often, whether as a refresher or because it's all new to you.
-
I believe he's talking about adding the fire marker to the IRC thread. Or am I wrong?
blakey's topic or not, that's getting a bit overused for things that aren't even proper flamewars.
Like when we had the "flamewar counting topic" which had the number incremented after every minor disagreement.
-
As with all things, the can have humorous uses, too...
-
Is there a module on blakeyrat's laws? I can only ever remember one of those at most.
-
Is there a module on blakeyrat's laws? I can only ever remember one of those at most.
Well known phenomenon. Also known as the goldfish memory uncertainty principle. You're probably distracted by ads or a discobug.
-
Honest question, actually. @blakeyrat, Why don't you use the @-mention-thing?
I used to try to use it but when the forum gets laggy, which is 99% of the time, it would end up being the wrong name because I hit "enter" too fast before the full list appeared. EDIT: and by the time you noticed the error, it's too late to edit it because the wrong person has already been notified.
So fuck it. I don't have patience to wait for Discourse's shitty server. And while I know in theory you can type them manually, from my experience Discourse's little thing always pops-up halfway through and fucks you up anyway.
It's almost impossible to type a colon at the end of a line without Discourse trying to turn it into some douchey smiley, too
The mentions menu shows up WAY too slow, and the smiley one shows up WAY too fast. Fuck this forum.
Is it because you don't want people to see that you mentioned them (because thats how it looks from the outside)?!
I don't give a shit about that.
Are you seeing it as gamification?!
No; I use mentions on all the Atlassian products we use at work because they actually work. I use them on Slack because they actually work. I'd use them here, if they worked. They don't, so I don't.
-
I can only ever remember one of those at most.
Here an example of blakeyrat's second law:
@blakeyrat said:Fuck this forum
-

No, the UI shows it as completely distinct from your post:
Nothing there says that the title text is your words or belongs to you. You're just assuming it does because you think it's your thread and nobody but you should be allowed to change the title you originally gave it, but that isn't the case.
-
Then answer me this, genius:
Why is that pencil there? I never edited that post.
Title edits are still stored and displayed as edits to my post. Even when I didn't make them, and don't endorse them.
-
So your complaint is that it says your post has been edited when it hasn't?
doesn't have anywhere else to put the title's edit history; it's certainly not the worst thing it does.
-
We should make blakeyrat, rc4 and raceprouk mods. Just for the .
Not only is the bad ideas thread over there , the only worse idea would be making bra-fox a mod.
