channel.h:1181
That's a lot of LOC specially for .h file.
Pfft. I'm looking at a .h that's 11289 lines. The corresponding cpp is 21385.

The error is also in macro expansion invoked from line 6160. The complete file is 11654 lines long. Joy.
Amateur.

To the pub?
I hope not. Hopefully it's just AD starting up REALLY slow after all those Windows Updates.Status: My computer at work has a 3.5" floppy disk drive.
I found a Dell Inspiron at my workplace that has a floppy drive! Not sure if it works or not though...

Status: Delayed 20 minutes on a commute that takes 15.
Better than my Mon status: Normal train takes 30 minutes. Delays made it 2 1/4hrs. Don't stop on the fucking tracks idiots. No injuries. Train 1, Car 0. Or is that "Car 324323" (pieces).

Wait wait wait, is that x86 without 64-bit extensions?
I thought @sloosecannon was trying to install Server 2012? That only works on x64 IIRC.

No, he has a 2012 machine already, trying to install another computer that has a SCSI drive and CDROM.

The outsourced work has been brought in house... I have being chosen to take up the gauntlet and the outsourced are not being very forthcoming with documentation...
Next status: Re-writing from scratch?

Oh, right. He's lucky Server 2012 still includes the timepod feature then

Computer timepods are best timepods.

My home computer has a floppy drive. It's there because way back in XP you needed a floppy to do SATA drivers during the Windows install. It's installed backwards in the chassis so it faces the inside and has the blanking bezel left in.
During subsequent hardware upgrades I determined that there was no benefit to wasting time removing 4 whole screws and that the retro floppy seek noise on boot was amusing, so it's still plugged in.
The last build was 6 years ago, and it's due. The next motherboard in the lineup will not have a floppy header, but I'm probably going to leave it physically in there, though, because fuck doing extra screws.
-
In the US, "collateral" is usually used for loans, "security deposit" is used for rentals (i.e. going to a bar and using their pool tables).

Status: We decided that our structure wasn't great, and that we should handle a few things in the same way, so we built a thing to help with that. I'd done something else very slightly different because we hadn't decided to do this new thing yet, so I spent the last two days trying to get the thing I did into the new thing. I finally got it!
EDIT: Or not, overflowed the stack again somehow...
EDIT: I'm an idiot. Refixed.

E_NO_IDIOT_REMOVED_FROM_GENE_POOLNo shit. All I can say is if for some (really asinine reason) I get stuck on the tracks, someone (in addition to me) is going to have a dented bumper.

FYI1: Usually just kicking the network card (disable / re-enable) is sufficient to get it to redetect. Unless it is in fact the domain controller, in which case you're better off to reboot the whole thing.
1Yeah, yeah, this isn't coding help, etc, etc... Just in case someone from Google stumbles by and sees this post while they're desperately
discosearching to figure out how to fix that issue.

It is, and this is just after a crash-windows update bonanza. I will probably reboot too.

Discourse: the forum where you feel guilty about updating your avatar because you know it's going to cause a hundred "502: Ok" errors for other people.
-
Never heard that in common usage... I have heard "security" (short for "security deposit") quite often.
Now that I think about it, the usage probably varies widely by region.

Day After Taco Bell Asshole Burn and Runs
NotAThing.tiff why does everyone say this is a thing?
-
Must be an American thing; it's not a saying used here for two reasons:
57489567392. Taco Bell doesn't exist over here
57438957839. The sensations are far more likely to be caused by an over-spiced vindaloo at a cheap curry house
-
Dammit now I want curry.

Status: 3 hours wasted trying to get Windows 7 installer working. It complained about lack of CD/DVD drivers. I digged through the entire internet, looking for people with similar problem, and found numerous solutions:
- Plug pendrive to another USB port
- Make GPT UEFI bootable USB
- Put SATA drivers on USB
- Put USB drivers on USB
- Put USB drivers on hard disk
- Disable UEFI, disable CSM
- Disable UEFI, enable CSM
- Enable UEFI, disable CSM
- Remove all partitions from hard disk
- Disable virtualization
- Reboot several times
- Try another ISO
- Disable Legacy USB
- Enable Legacy USB
All of these worked for other people, and none of these worked for me. But eventually, I found out that all I had to do is disable XHCI mode.
-
disable XHCI mode.
Ooh, that might come and bite you later.
Really, the issue is actually "I NFC where my setup files are lol", if you can locate them in command prompt, you can actually skip that step by calling setup.exe (not the one in the root of the DVD!) directly.
-
Should've tried PXE boot
-
Actually, it's because of all those issues that I first set up my PXE setup. ?

- I don't quite see where I could access command prompt during installation. And the button that's labeled "Repair" or something doesn't work for me (asks for a recovery disk or something like that).
- The installer seriously, actually, really, genuinely didn't see the USB drive I launched it from. Confirmed by the file browser on driver select screen. There's even a logical explanation!

I guess that's what you get for installing Windows 7?

How the shit does stuff like this EVEN HAPPEN!?
Because Discodevs.
It's an improvement from when someone changing their avatar used to cripple the server because Discourse tried to rebake every post they were quoted in.
Neither of these things would happen with software written by competent people though.
-
We're having trouble with pages loading slowly due to terribad code.
Hmm, how about making the client do all the work?
Sounds like it could work. What do you mean by that, exactly?
Well, we bake all the posts on the server into HTML and then store that in the database. Then, we send the HTML to the client and the client displays it.
What? I thought you said the client would do all the work!
Also, because sometimes posts need updating, we set up a scheduled task that goes through the database and regenerates random posts if we change this constant.
Do you have any idea how forums used to work? Because I'm pretty sure if it's possible to make something that works in shared hosting at an acceptable speed, you should be able to do the same thing in dedicated hosting without any trouble.

Status: About to try remote kernel debugging in Windows with Visual Studio 2015. If BSODs could cause PC headaches, my secondary workstation would be dying of a massive stroke migraine about right now.

Why not just store one avatar per user?
WAT?
Why not just store one avatar per user, as it's simple and is how it's generally done?
We should store the avatar each user was using at the time they posted in quotes, but also rebake it when they change avatars
WAT?
Just do it
But...

On the other, even though my office is at home I cannot work in shorts and a t-shirt. At minimum it is jeans and a polo, or I am not in the work frame of mind.
I'm wearing slacks, a dress shirt, and (earlier) a sport coat in the privacy of my living room, where not a single other person can see me (unless they want to be a peeping tom and peer through my blinds) because I had a phone interview, and it helps put me in the work/interview mindset.
Interview went ok, maybe, but I gather they don't actually have any real openings at the moment. They are just "pre-filling the candidate pipeline" for some contracts they expect in the next few weeks.

Reading quotes from the new Polish government.
That's some broken-ass English you've quoted there. I knew they posted something but I was hoping it was of high quality.
But you wanted a comment: I don't know what they've written there but the previous government was caught bugging (as in planting bugs) journalists and accepting bribes for favorable legislation of which no one suffered consequences and all was well. And suddenly when the new government started ruling and has revoked an act appointing 6 constitutional judges because appointing them was unlawful (there were only 3 free spots) and taking over the public media (a thing that every government does but these guys are doing it in a straight manner, not in the usual underhanded manner) and suddenly there are EU officials stating that Poland should be overseen.
Fuck that shit.
