How is it possible someone in the lounge could be an asshole?
-
His lack of TL3 is a deliberate protest
And one that I can empathise with.Warning. Extreme rudeness follows.
Now, I use the word "cunt" fairly frequently. Also "fuck", "shit", "wanker", "pisshole" and other advanced swearology which would probably be frowned upon even in very impolite company. In most cases, that can be taken fairly lightly, as I'm usually joking. When I'm not, it's pretty easy to tell, and you can usually substitute "he's joking" anyway, because it goes away pretty fast, and I don't generally hold a grudge. Not even with @boomzilla, and he's the cunt's shitting pisshole. However, for the rest of this message, you can take any swearing to be intended as insult.
Following a PM from @Polygeekery, I now know exactly which cunt posted the picture of Blakeyrat's house. And it raises two issues.
The first is "what sort of fucking retarded spastic fuck are you, you shit-sniffing cockgobbler?". Did you never learn the first thing about human decency, you piece of fœtid donkey smegma? How the fuck do you deal with the smell of shit emanating from your fucking food-hole? Pathetic excuse for a human being. You make me sick.
The second is "why the fuck was that sack of shit not insta-perma-banned?". That's your classic case of "asleep at the wheel moderation" right there. I'm not going to call the mods anything rude, but that's deliberately not doing your job, presumably because you knew it would annoy blakey. There's a difference between a joke and allowing flat out cuntery to go on, unchecked. Hang your heads in shame.

Why does anyone care? It was more of a curiosity thing, like "huh, so that's what it looks like," not "LOLOLOLOOL PARTY TIME GUISE!!!11 "
-
Because it's "I know where you live", with all the overtones that carries. If you don't see the problem, why not post up your street address?
-

It is one thing to put two and two together for yourself. It is something entirely different to post it on the forums, especially when it is not just who they are but a photo of their home.
I know how I would feel if someone posted a photo of my house on the forums. I would not be too happy about it. I think it ultimately comes down to: How would you feel if it happened to you?
-
Wouldn't really care that much if it was in The Lounge.
-
-
Address ≠ picture of house
It was Google Street View. All you had to do was click on it to get the address and driving directions.
-
Oh, I thought it was just a picture. Oh well.
-
Can the punishment be to knock down the perpetrator to TL1, and he has to get 15 likes by Blakeyrat before he can advance to TL2?
-
I like it. It is poetic.
-

For clarity: It was from google street view. It was an uploaded screenshot, presumably.
-
And boomzilla lawn is there too, and several people posted their IRL pictures and lawns there. Slowdown with the torches and pitchforks.
-
There's a difference between posting a picture of your own house and someone else posting a picture of your house in a place where you can't see it.
-
Exactly that.
From what I know (which is precious little as I don't have access to the lounge, either) this is bang out of order. Basically everything Tufty said without the swearing.
-
-
According to the papers this week, sweary people are more honest, so you made the same point with extra honesty?
But seriously, there are things here.
- Blakey doesn't join the Lounge for reasons. They are valid reasons - and refusing to participate in gamification bullshit that doesn't really make sense (and has consequences that are worrying if ever it were to be abused) is also valid. Could he participate if he wanted to? Sure. He is standing by his principles - that's worth some respect.
- PII shouldn't need to be in a place where the person it concerns can see it to be policed. If I were to get doxxed for shits and giggles in Turn Left (the TL4 area IIRC), is that appropriate? Does the lack of choice on my part about access make it somehow more or less appropriate? Fuck off, no it doesn't - it's still PII in a place it should not be, end of.
-
Cannot agree more with this.
As a noob here, it does concern me that something like this happened...
-
Why does anyone care? It was more of a curiosity thing, like "huh, so that's what it looks like," not "LOLOLOLOOL PARTY TIME GUISE!!!11 "
Give us your address, we'll post a photo of yours.
No?Thought not.
-
Thank you for being so honorable, noble, ethical, and brave. You are definitely a better person than I am.
-
Well, you like being evil incarnate and don't mind being called an asshole (for further reading: that thread).
Maybe fuck off?
-
For clarity: It was from google street view. It was an uploaded screenshot, presumably.
My bad. I thought I remembered all of the Google Maps controls being visible, so I may have just assumed it was an embed.
-
Wouldn't really care that much if it was in The Lounge.
You could argue that there's some kind of silent agreement that posting personal stuff in the Lounge is kinda ok. Problem: @blakeyrat is not part of the Lounge, so even if there was such an agreement, it wouldn't involve him.
It's an asshole move. Period. I'm curious about who everyone else is IRL as well, but I would never actively search for information the other person isn't willing to share. And even if I did, I wouldn't publicly share what I found.
-

Someone posting their personal information yes. Someone posting someone else's is not. Doesn't matter if they're in the Lounge or not.
-

Agreed. I just tried to argue that even if posting in the Lounge was any different, it wouldn't be OK in this particular case.
-
However, as far as "doxxing" goes, nobody doxxed you. You doxxed yourself.
The Internet of 2015 is a far different place than the Internet of 1998, or whenever I set up that domain originally.
So yes, I might have "doxxed myself", but at the time the domain was registered there was literally no other way of owning a web domain. The anomymity stuff didn't come along until much later.
In any case, there's a huge difference between finding that little nugget of information and saying, "haha whoops look at that", and POSTING IT ON A FORUM FOR THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE TO SEE.
-
-
fuck that 'victim blaming' bullshit.
-
This is why I am very protective of my PII, because assholes will do shit like that.
That's great, but BACK IN THE 90s IT WAS LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO OWN A DOMAIN NAME WITHOUT MAKING YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS PUBLIC.
Do you understand that?
It's still "technically" impossible, but it works because ICANN ignores their own rules 99.9% of the time.
-

Why are you yelling at me? I defended you, fuck head.

I don't want anybody banned, but it would be nice if:
-
Someone (in an official capacity) had informed me of it
-
The person who has betrayed everybody's trust has their "trust level" removed
I think that would be fair.
-
-
So yes, I might have "doxxed myself"
Bullcrap. He's just trying to defend being an asshole.
-
you like being evil incarnate
Also, you people take this shit far too seriously, and the thread of doom is , please keep it that way.
-
Why are you yelling at me? I defended you, fuck head.
I'm just saying there was literally no option at the time to be protective of your PII if you wanted a domain name. There was no choice in the matter.
If that's not what you meant, sorry. I read it as "Blakeyrat wasn't being careful enough".
-
Seconded
-
The person who has betrayed everybody's trust has their "trust level" removed
FWIW I agree.
-
If that's not what you meant, sorry. I read it as "Blakeyrat wasn't being careful enough".
Read it as: "It would be great if we didn't have to guard PII like fucking nuclear launch codes, and people could just not be dicks to each other". Because that is how I meant it.
I know you have tried to remove that information. We have spoken about it in PM, so you know that I know. I really don't know what else I could have said to stop that misunderstanding.
-
Can I get a definition of PII? I keep parsing it as Pentium 2...
-
I read it as "Blakeyrat wasn't capable of being careful enough".
Fixed that for clarification, not enough words are being used for complete disambiguation.
-
PII
Personally Identifiable Information. Examples: full names, credit cards, addresses, et cetera

This seems like a fair solution to me too.

Oh wait, but I can't leave because then I'll spend the rest of my life being made fun of for "ha ha lol ragequit lolol.ol".
Didn't prevent you from leaving that last time. And the one before that. Also TBH, most of the fun we had of you was not because you quitted for good, but because we knew you'd be back.

True story (and I'm sure that blakey will be horrified by this) but his quitting, after Lorne left, was the last straw for me last year. Must admit I was pleased when I came back to find that they had both returned.
And to return to the point of this thread, what was done to blakey in the lounge was beyond seedy and there needs to be some repercussion for the twat who did it.
