Status: I'm not sure if MS is getting more aggressive or I accidentally clicked something I didn't intend to without noticing. I've got a Win10 upgrade now/later dialog instead of the usual little bubble that's always in front of everything at the bottom of my screen.

That's true for fission bombs. With fusion I wouldn't be so sure.
The Tsar Bomba was a fusion bomb and a percentage of its yield was blown off in to space. A larger yield bomb would have caused no more destruction.

SuuubstJooooooin us!Some time before it ceases to be free, yeah, but I'm in no hurry.

Well, for that we only have your word because we can't very well actually test that now, can we?

Status: Just re-read a bunch of stuff in the Status Thread because Discourse decided I've never read any of it before.

STATUS: Looking over a frontend dev's portfolio. A bunch of unimpressive bootstrap themes with that awful scroll jacking shit that I can't stand.
But one big plus for me - he uses tabs. Always a nice thing to see.
Not because I like tabs per say, but because he took the time to form an opinion on how he wants his code to look, and then figured out how to customize his editor to use tabs (they all default to fucking spaces). Also, everything is separated into silly little fenced sections, neatly organized, etc. Effort and thought went into things beyond just getting the job done.
Sloppy guys can do well as admins and "architects". Big picture stuff. For frontend, you want a guy (or gal) who sweat the details.
Not that we'll hire this guy (need someone more programming oriented), but nice to see nonetheless.

Not my word. You can do your own research. There is conflicting information on why the Tsar Bomba was the size that it was, but what I believe (because it is the simplest one) is that the Russian scientists calculated that anything larger would be a waste as the excess energy would be expelled in to space.
-
Actually, the simplest one is: "Too much fallout." Another, equally simple one: "The plane would not have escaped."
The removal of the third and maybe second stage reduced the calculated fallout by 97%.

more aggressive
Never!
I'll just leave this here:

Uninstall KB3035583, then block it from re-installing.

status Looking at title that contains Whale and Paid. Seeing Pad. So question:
If whales are mammals, why isn't the ocean filled with menstrual blood?

Ah! That's what I was looking for. I wanted to get this out of the way before my RDP Hosts decided to busy themselves checking that they weren't compatible every day....
I call BS that it's hiding as a generic "This resolves issues" package.

Status: Steam!
It's one thing to have a feature for additional security if it's optional. It's another thing to punish people for not using it. It's a completely third thing to punish people for not using it, even though the only reason they're not using it is you didn't fucking bother to build it!!!
Fuck this noise.

Are you suggesting the copy is lying?
It says you need to use the mobile authenticator app to avoid the penalties: http://store.steampowered.com/mobile
Here's a quote in case you don't bother to visit the link:
Avoid trade holds
Starting Dec 9, anyone losing items in a trade will need to have a Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator enabled on their account for at least 7 days. Otherwise, to protect against unauthorized trades, items will be held by Steam for up to 3 days before delivery. It doesn't say "you need 2-factor authentication enabled", it specifically says you need the mobile authenticator app enabled.

Oh, I just went to the market and saw the big message and assumed that meant it was active for my account. Yeah, that is weird for Valve to alienate Windows users.

Yeah, that is weird for Valve to alienate Windows users.
It's not just "weird", it's grossly, criminally, unfair. It's a GIANT "fuck you" to us. (It's also a "fuck you" to people who don't own smartphones at all, I should note.)
Here's my Steam "suggestion" if you want to lend support:

Status: Update on this.
One vendor is confirmed using Java 6. They say they're in the pipeline to updating to Java 7 or 8 in Q1 2016.
The other vendor is on Java 8, but in their service, they explicitly disabled SNI. Why? They sent me this link to StackOverflow when they were explaining their position, which is because other clients' systems they communicate with are "misconfigured", and return a warning of "Unrecognized Name" during the initial handshake. Oracle, for whatever reason, decided that Java should treat that as a fatal error, and won't change it.
...
Whatever, at this point, we're considering this issue as "not our problem", and leaving it on the vendors.

Status: Ok, it looks like the rat people have won the contest for who I'm going to help. So now we need to know who's going to do what. I'll do the one that gets chosen. One of the rat people will do the other one off-camera.
Which job can I take?

- Rescue rat people from a pregnant crab made of lava.
- Steal powder used for making bombs from the centaurs.

Is the poll not showing up? I can see it.

I'm not quite sure what hinders them from using the same 2-factor authentication scheme which Google, Microsoft, Dropbox and Facebook use. Namely TOTP security tokens from RFC 6238, which any app can implement.

I spent 40 minutes of a 24-hour hackathon trying to do that once.

24-hour hackathon
Never have understood why people bother with those as anything other than sports. It certainly isn't a way to get production ready code. It also sure as shit isn't actually fun.
It's like any other endurance event. Ultramarathons, car races, etc. You're not going to be at your best. Nobody actually enjoys it while its happening. It's just a masochistic "because I can" kind of thing, and validating that "yes, I in fact can" is the addictive part. I've never known a programmer who had any doubt they can go for 24 hours.
-
Fuck the centaurs.
-
All of them? What about Ventari?
-
They all suck.

Pffft. Ventari is awesome.

Here's a picture of @Arantor:

pretty accurate

Me and my team found it to be a great learning experience, and it felt really good to have a fairly functional dynamic website built at the end of it. It's also a good opportunity for networking, and there are decent prizes, too.

They already do 2-factor using SMS, as Ben L mentioned, but that's "not good enough" to avoid getting penalized.

Is it bad I want to try out this hairstyle on you irl?
