What favorite UI element will we lose next? Everything?

I'd use the link button, but a) the buttons are depreciated or something according to Jeff
He said they're distracting to people making replies...
No, really.

Magnets having sex or it didn't happen?

Precisely. Why is there even an emoji for that?
Don't tell me. Japan.

When a magnet and another magnet love each other very much, they form a special bond... A LINK you might say.

Does Zelda watch? And is it in the past or the future? Is there an ocarina?
-
Why is there even an emoji for that?
Because blakeyrat thought that looked like magnets having sex, so it got added as an alternate shortcut for the same picture. I don't think Japan was involved in any way.

Apparently I earned "First Link" badge for that post, because normally I put my links in with BBCode syntax but that time I clicked the link widget in the editor. And obviously only using the link widget should count. (Well, I assume it's actually based on the syntax, but who knows.)
Still, I thought I'd done that before. Maybe I tried it, thought "man, what an ugly syntax" and converted it into a saner one; I'm pretty sure I've done that once or twice. Of course it could also just be Discocounting.
-
Yeah, that badge only counts if Discourse detects it properly so that it links inside Discourse (You can tell by the link also appearing to the right of the post). Any and all other links are irrelevant.

[/spoiler]On the other hand, imagine you're Joe Average without much experience in computers, and you try to format the text. "Okay, so bold is... an asterisk, huh? Fine, I'll try to remember... Oh, and italic is a slash? Okay, it kinda makes sense, it's slanted... Now, were the links square brackets, then round, or the other way around?"
They'd use the WYSIWYG interface, though.
[spoiler]This will be fun. All the for> matting in this post will be done using the composer bar in the WYSI

Hmm, the list button actually worked!

What if you tried to do the for****strong textmatting using the keyboard shortcut**emphasized texts?

So now on mobile ("that's different") the header slides out when I scroll down. Which is fine.
But it only slides back in when I scroll up a distance which seems to be not the same distance as it takes to make it slide out, but about a "pageful of posts". Which is a lot of scrolling.
Oh, I get it. It needs to scroll all the way until the thumb on the browser's scrollbar reaches the top. That's why if there are more earlier posts loaded it fails to slide in the header.
Going through my notifications just became more painful.
Great. The screen rotated as I was typing on the soft keyboard and I hit "clear bookmarks". Of course there was no confirmation. Did I have any post bookmarked or just the thread? Who knows. FML.

Lock Rotation quick-setting FTW!

On my phone it locks on portrait mode rather than the current mode. Idiots.

So now on mobile ("that's different") the header slides out when I scroll down.
I somehow got into a situation where the header did not disappear (no complaint there), but the greenbar did and no amount of scrolling up and down would bring it back.Until I scrolled all the way to the bottom of the thread, that is. Then it snapped back to its place above the suggested topics and when I scrolled up again it snapped to the corner of the viewport as normal.
I suspect it was fixed right outside the bottom of the viewport the whole time, it was just the viewport pan that was incorrect.
-
And for my next trick: the extraordinary disappearing notifications!
And no, it's not a connectivity problem:
-
Got this on the original tab:
Error while processing route: user.notifications e is null
Opening a new tab only gets me a lot of:
MESSAGE BUS FAIL: callback /notification/30 caused exception
Chrome is unfazed. I guess Firefox is like mobile: it's different.
Meanwhile, VS is crashing on startup. Possibly because my drive space in C: is once again disappearing.
-
Did you try a hard refresh on FF? Discourse is like windows. Sometimes it just needs a reboot.
-
No difference. But I've seen this:
So I guess all bets are off.
Belgium-fucking Windows: where is the drive space going to this time?

■■■■■■■-fucking Windows: where is the drive space going to this time?
Wouldn't it be great if Windows showed how much space each directory used, so you could drill down into the offenders and find that one 80GB temp directory?
(Faux edit: I'm being sarcastic because Windows doesn't)

Definitely a linux>windows item. There's even a GUI tool, though CLI

OMFG I love the site. I love being able to go to a site, see "small blurb of text, download link", fucking done. No javascript-ajax-CDN-clicktracker bullshit. No "download our installer so we can pick which malware to send you with your util".
And the atmosphere is so QUAINT:
In general that means you are free to do whatever you like with the binary form (mirror it, put it on media accompanying printed magazines and also use it inside your company) free of charge. You also need not notify us in any way, although we appreciate feedback. The same holds for printed magazines interested in putting WinDirStat on a CD or DVD accompanying their publication.
#printed magazines interested in putting WinDirStat on a CD or DVD accompanying their publication
THERE ISN'T A SINGLE PART OF THAT SENTENCE THAT ISN'T FUCKING AMAZING!

It does have a big fake "download" banner right above the real download link on the fosshub site though:Very FOSS-y.

Didn't see it. AdBlock + NoScript + Ghostery + RequestPolicy. Something squelched it.
And yet, magically, the actually download links still work. Whoddathynk?

How about betamax?

How about betamax?
I think you mean Betamax , the video home cassette owned by Sony Corporation? ArsTechna uses this trademarked and licensed property by name WITHOUT proper attribution. I hope they get sued. Maybe when Sony is done financially raping their ass, 20th Century Fox can step in and get some sloppy, bloody seconds for that PIRATED screen shot of the hit popular television show, The Simpsons .
