WTF is happening with Windows 10? And nothing else

am i the only one who thinks the solution to that is "don't do drugsporn"?
But Kate Monster, the Internet is for porn.

This is a WAG but maybe you need to search for something so
IEEdgecan pick up the search url. IIRC Chrome will auto-add them but only after searching.

This post can also be a reply to the one directly above it:
The italicized bit really sells it.

Every time I see your avatar I get that song stuck in my head. I hope you're proud.

but trekkie monster, you know you shouldn't porn on a computer your SO has access to in any degree, not unless they are cool with it anyway.
-
Yes. Yes, I am :)
-
It's trekkie monster.
And yes, just keep the porn on the server, idiot. It'll still be there in a week.

I LOVE windows 10.
Oh, i failed to capture the underlying window: "Path of exile" won't run. "And yet it moves" has graphical glitches in the top 1/3 of the screen. "Duke nukem forever" won't launch at all. The game i got from blakey (pixel something) get stuck with the tower spinning endlessly, preventing me from moving and building towers.
Do we have any players of path of exile ? I've yet to play it-
-
I play path of exile on windows 10. It works fine. It installed working drivers automatically even.
-
It works in fullscreen, windowed and windowed fails with the error above...
-
I only ever play widowed! Your problem is in another castle.
-
The reason might Be elsewhere - but it consistently fails in windowed (for me).
Nvidia 860m 2gb, 1080p, win 10.I like it a lot. This is what I wanted diablo 3 to be. The skill tree is fantastic, if a little hard to grasp.
My only complaint is fluidity, it seems ba bit choppy, even when pegged at 60 fps
-
I like it a lot.
I got bored of it ages ago. It just doesn't really do it for me. (Neither does Diablo 3 for that matter.)
Programming is more fun.
-
A possible reason It could feel choppy is which antilag setting you use. You can only at it on the log in screen, and It only became an option in the latest patch. The old setting was predictive, and was always fluid, but sometimes you'd teleport back if you were in an impossible location. The new one just freezes and doesn't let you get out of sync. It's better, but only at ~60 ping.
Also, beware that the game is very diablo like. You can make a character that can't survive the last parts of the second difficulty. Making a character that can't survive the third difficulty isn't even hard.
-
I like Torchlight 2, because it's colorful and fun and you can't screw yourself over because you like your character to be a specific way and you get a pet who is your best bud. And it was like $25 instead of $60.
Diablo III outselling Torchlight 2 is a great refutation of the "best of all possible worlds" concept in Leibniz's philosophy.
-
Tried that too. It doesn't work. Also when I set Cortana up, Edge stopped working altogether until I rebooting and bringing the laptop out of sleep screws with random stuff like sound, the start menu, etc. WTF?
-
Diablo 3 is quite colorful and friendly compared to the first two, and you definitely can't ruin a character in It, because you can only barely customize. But the overall production value is incredibly high. I did enjoy It. I just don't have any interest in playing through It again. In path of exile, lots of people quit before the end of the second difficulty, but I always find It fun, and have spent more on It than any game I've ever played.

I only ever play widowed!
My condolences on your loss, but I'm pretty sure that will have no effect on the game itself.I decided I'd upgrade the (not much used) 8.1 laptop to 10 so we could try it out and decide whether we wanted to upgrade the other machines. But it can't seem to download the update that installs the Get Windows 10 app. Even if I just try to download that one update (760 KB or so), it either stalls at 0% downloading or, for some reason, at 12% downloading.
I've been able to download and install some of the other pending updates, but it consistently fails on others. Not sure why yet, tried the most common suggested fixes with only very limited success.
-
Some have to be done in order, but that may not matter if you do the create media approach, which can just upgrade in place, rather than actually creating media.
-
At the moment, I'm not even up to that stage, I'm just trying to get the GWX app so I can do the prerequisite check and so on. After that, presuming there are no obstacles, I'll try the actual upgrade, and that tip may come in handy. Or am I misunderstanding you?
-
A couple of nights' ago I used the tool to create an .iso for a couple of PCs, and to save Microsoft's servers a little.
I've just tried to burn the image and found out the tool saved it into OneDrive, which then sent it right back to Microsoft...
Also, the upgrade set 7zip as default for .iso files, which removes the mount and burn options from the context menu. Set the default app to File Explorer to get them back.
-
As far as I know, gwx is just for the automatic upgrade. You might possibly be able to skip that. I don't really know.
-
I used the upgrade option in the media tool on an almost clean Computer. It wiped all installed programs, but kept the files. If I'd used that on my own laptop I'd have a lot of work to do.

Since we are using this topic to nitpick about Windows 10:
I like the notification in the sidebar-thing, It works somewhat and will even show me when people reply to me on TDWTF (thanks riking :D). BUT:
Who thought it was a good idea to have the notifications make sounds that are not mutable? Like why don't they have a sound-setting in the mixer? They could also be tied to the System-Sounds.Filed Under: Thats just stupid!
-
Huh? The volume mixer seems unchanged.
Also, those TDWTF notifications... don't they come from the browser and not the system? Or did Chrome prep it up for Win10?
Oh, by the way:
muteable

-
Mine don't make sounds at all, and they seem to be pretty unreliable. Often the icon will turn white but it will still say 'No new notifications'.
The mail app doesn't seem to be refreshing its tile as well as it used to, so possibly they're related.
-

Yes. But the Notification sidebar thing is either new or I never used it before due to Win 8 having a weird interface.

I didn't get a sound for your replies either now. Though the stupid "Please take a survey"-thing did do a sound... so I am not sure what to think anymore.Often the icon will turn white but it will still say 'No new notifications'.
Oh, I thought I was the only one who got that. It doesn't bother me that much, though.

Sorry?

That's new, then. At least in Chrome, they just popped up a fully self-made notification without using any specific Windows APIs.
Still, full mute seems to mute the notification sounds, so probably one of the sliders does them in too...
-

It's new. It also has a bunch of nice shortcuts. It's not very different from the Charms, except that it doesn't randomly show up when your mouse moves wrong, and there's more stuff. It's straight from Windows Phone.

I'm not sure about that. It works in Firefox as well, so I assume there's some kind of basic web notification system, and that Windows just hooks into it too.

That icon has clearly never worked quite right, as I see the same thing a lot, too.
The Sounds control panel has a "System Notification" sound that you can disable in the usual way. I don't know if Chrome's notifications use that or not.

So I upgraded to windows 10 today.

So, I have fun with Windows 10 last night.
If your copy of Windows 10 is ready to be downloaded and you make the mistake of clicking on the notification that it's ready (as in anywhere in the display, not on a specific button), Windows 10 takes over Windows Update.
You can unselect Windows 10 from the Windows Update updates list... and it will start installing it anyway.
The only fix was System Restore... which decided it should trash my user account's ntuser.dat aka the user-specific part of the registry.
This is how I found out the hard way that my backups of the Users directory (using tools made by Western Digital) didn't include hidden files, such as ntuser.dat...
I highly recommend removing KB3035583 from your Windows 7/8/8.1 computer NOW.

hmmmm but i don't have windows 7,8, or 8.1 anymore....

KB3035583
### Status Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
A-ha, so they admit this is a problem.

Installed 10 last night. Graphics driver is so fucked-up that it manages only to show some sort of notification that DISPLAY DRIVER SOMETHING through the flickering screen before logging me out to flickering login screen.
If I try to log in again, it repeats.Fortunately it allows you to stay logged in long enough to be able to press Shift+Restart which is the way to reboot into "troubleshooting" mode. They removed fucking F8.
Unfortunately reinstalling Nvidia driver in the safe mode didn't help. I gave up after two tries because it was past 1:00 at that point. I look forward to continuation of the fun after work tonight.I find it symbolic that this is post 666. The Win10/Nvidia driver fuck-up is very evil indeed.
-
That's really odd. I didn't have time to install the NVidia driver. Just before I clicked the installer, windows update finished applying It apparently.
I mean, I'm on a 980, which they can't afford to have not work. So ymmv.
