s it possible to hook in BadBehavior somehow?
Its very PHP, we would have to shove an extra proxy in front :(

Might look at porting it as a plugin - is there a hook/whatever in Discourse that can be used before anything else ever gets called?
(That's basically how it reduces load/stops spammers - it's fast, and the very first thing to run, and stops execution of any other code on the site if it gets a positive match on something that shouldn't be allowed any further.)
-

You would have to write rack middleware but its doable, see anonymous cache for an example of very early on middleware.
-
I'm tempted to suggest blacklisting ArchiveBot; the amount of load it's generating is insane
Or detect it and serve up web pages built by a random number generator instead of the actual web pages.
-
Hmm. Wonder what would happen if we synchronise ourselves a bit so that a large number of users like the same post at the same time?
a bunch of possibly out of order +1 likecount triggers that don't really change the end result?
-
also, even deleting a post should not require running a select count() to get likes, you should be able to do a
topic_like_count = topic_like_count - deleted_post_like_count
, assuming you were storing like totals on the post & the topic level
-
I guess this stuff depends on the transaction isolation level and optimistic locking. We have seen DB deadlocks around here. They seem to have precipitated cootie storms, though I only have a correlation's say so.

This is true, you could get a like that happens just as a post deletes so that one is trying to add to the topic & post count while the other is trying to remove it and subtract?
Actually, can you like a post that's marked for deletion, is that UI even available? Seems silly if it is.....

(post withdrawn by author, will be automatically deleted in 24 hours unless flagged)

Can you like the post above this one?
-
Yep.
-
Yep.
-
Now I'm wondering what will happen if it gets 10 Likes; will the s disappear when the post disappears?
-
Quick! To the bots.
Summoning @accalia
-
I'll quote it too for good measure, maybe something interesting will happen with the post navigation buttons.

maybe a partial quote too

I did in fact not. know about that list

Looks like the Likes went away after you restored the post.
-
interesting... that is unexpected behavior.
did the badge go away too?
-
Oops....was looking at the wrong one. I deleted it (so we don't have to wait a day) and restored it and likes are gone. Badge is currently there....will probably go away when revocation is re-run.
-
No; the s still exist
-
I think, like the Oopsie 2^n s, this one will go away soon.
-
Actually, can you like a post that's marked for deletion, is that UI even available? Seems silly if it is.....
Just went to check something. While I cannot like a deleted post, the following actions are available:
- Bookmark
- Link
- Flag
- Reply
I even ran into a situation earlier today when I had a blue dot show up next to a deleted post which then faded out, so it appears that I was able to read a deleted post.
Makes me think that being unable to like a deleted post may just be a UI limitation.
-
of course we can. because dischorse. and raisins.
-
believe so, we already tested the likes post deletions at the very top of likes topic, but @pjh but them back so our post ids would synch to teh newlevator.
though i don't recall if we checked level stuff, maybe just the likes counts.
-

Nah, just 302 them to Anthony Weiner (a.k.a. Carlos Danger) dick pics. Isn't the point to actually block/mitigate the (D)DOS and not encourage it?

In other news @boomzilla you have full page search on meta now.
And now it's here! I'm however quite sad that it doesn't cooperate with middle click.

To the surprise of no one. Guess I'll just have to keep my habit of opening a new tab just to start searches.
-
hard to believe the lack of support for tabbed browsing. I think that is the most frustrating thing about dischorse.
Bugs are bugs, but the entire design fail regarding tabbed browsing?

Take your pick of:
- Jeff doesn't like it
- No normal user does it
- It is not civilised

You forgot JDGI

No, in this case, I think Jeff gets it but doesn't like it therefore wrong.
