So the TruFuel stuff says that it keeps carburetors, etc., from going bad. My Stihl FS55R string trimmer needed a new carb this spring. It cost me $17. So...for just a bit over the price of 1/2 gallon of TruFuel I replaced the entire carburetor with a new one.
Their product is still snake oil. It is placebo for idiots.
Also, the parts shop that I went to purchase the carburetor does sell ethanol-free fuel for ~$4/gallon which is less than what a quart of the TruFuel costs. That might not be a bad option if it were close to me, but I am not really having trouble with the gas from my local gas station so I will just keep doing what I am doing.
-
@Polygeekery is it US-centric or is it an international thing? I seem to recall that gas is more like $14/gallon in various parts of Europe, so the difference in those markets might be less... extreme.

No clue. I choose to live in a capitalist country with low fuel prices so that I don't have to drive a shoebox with a 500cc engine. ;)

Here in 'murica, we have motorcycles with larger engines than that. :P

Yes, because Harley Davidson's engine are the perfect example of efficiency

My shoebox has a 6162cc engine, thank you very much!
Although, with a plausible* ~4300lb raceweight, it's not much of a shoebox.
*We'll find out for certain the next chance I get to weigh it.

They're designed to make noise, and they're quite efficient at it.
Making the bike go is nice, but it's not what makes it a Harley.

I was actually thinking of this one:
-
@Polygeekery I'm content with what I have. I don't feel the need to race.
Also, the engine requires me to pay hardly any taxes (they're tied to various emissions levels) and is ridiculously efficient for something that size. Which is very nice. It's also very comfortable driving. Adaptive cruise control is damn sweet.

And that is all that matters. The opinion of asshole 'Muricans like me matters not. As long as you are happy with it, that is all that matters.

Not quite that bad; current rate is €1.50 a liter or thereabouts, which google turns to US$6.35 per gallon. Both oil and the Euro are low at the moment.

He said motorcycles. Why are you talking about Harleys? They're not even nearly the same thing.

Does it have 2.35 times the turbos? Mine has two!

How much boost are we talking? ~20psi will give the equivalent* of a 2.35-times-bigger displacement!
*ignoring pesky things like heat loss and mechanical inefficiency

That is a surprisingly accurate estimate. About 24psi according to the data from the OBDII port.

That must be a pretty stout engine to handle that boost level. ~8-9psi is the danger zone* on my engine if you're not running race gas, methanol injection, or have a forged bottom end. Of course, that amount of boost can get you close to 650 horsepower at the crank on that engine, so...
*8-9 for roots blowers, a bit higher for centrifugal superchargers and turbos.
**Yes, I know that cylinder pressure is a more important metric than boost.

@Groaner said in Trufuel WTF (not technology related):

It's a diesel, so in comparison to the petrol engines you're talking about (race gas and methanol injection aren't applicable to diesels), it's pretty stout.

the only thing I know is that Americans get really drunk very easily when they visit the UK.
The same thing can be said for Brits who come to Kraków, but we tend to attribute to the fact that they drink a lot, not our liquor's strength.

So if I go to my gas station, buy some gas, put it in a fancy can with some weasly-market words on it-- I can resell that gas for 10x the price?
I know how I'm paying for my next house.

There's no need to be so diacritical of us.
