Poll: Where are my checkboxes?
-
Continuing the discussion from Poll: support in Discourse:
I have to post this as a linked topic of course since I can't poll in post...
The inability to post a checkbox poll is:
- Frustrating
- Brillant
- Heartbreaking
- WTF the preview doesn't render the poll properly
- TRWTF
- POLL_NOT_FOUND
- Checkbox
How are you supposed to vote checkbox when you can't check all the boxes?
Continuing the discussion from HP is surreal.
The poll support in Discourse is:
- sensible and reasonable
- nuts
- insane
- batshit insane
- WTF
- TRWTF
(Summary of the linked thread: Poll is created by prefixing the topic with
Poll:
and closed by changing toClosed poll:
. Both are localized to forum language via strings inserver.*.yml
. Want to create poll in the middle of a thread? Fat chance. Want to have poll with multiple questions? Well, let's try:)

How are you supposed to vote checkbox when you can't check all the boxes?
Post a poll with 2^n+1 options including all permutations.
Plus FILE_NOT_FOUND.
-
So, 2n+2 options then?
-
What's the other one?
e.g. 3 options, 2^3+1=9
- 000
- 001
- 010
- 011
- 100
- 101
- 110
- 111
- FILE_NOT_FOUND
You appear to be suggesting another?

No, you were... you said 2n+1 including all permutations - then said to include FILE_NOT_FOUND as though it were separate.
I claim my pendantry badge now.
-
Your original wording ("2^n+1, plus FILE_NOT_FOUND") looks like you're implying another additional one.
-
The +1 was meant to refer to FILE_NOT_FOUND. Clearly, you can't have 2^n+1 permutations of n options...
-
For checkboxes, we should have tri-state options so we can choose True/False/FILE_NOT_FOUND for each option.
-
Don't you also have to include FILE_NOT_FOUND in the permutations, so 2(n+1)
Also I can do this.
Isn't this annoying?
-
I think we're getting some multi-part cross-pendandtry going on where everyone knows what's actually right but also fighting over wording.
Edit: Cross-pendantry:
http://emilysirkel.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Tangled.pngDouble edit: Maybe would've been a better image if one of the pendants was a cross.
-
The +1 was meant to refer to FILE_NOT_FOUND. Clearly, you can't have 2^n+1 permutations of n options...
Then you should have been clearer because you know we'll call you out on it.
Also, quantum states mean the +1 is always going to be there, FILE_NOT_FOUND or no.

Please don't do that...you'll give the DiscoDevs an excuse to rate-limit the <kbd> tags in some horribly broken fashion that makes the site 45% less usable for everyone who's not abusing the tags.

Too late - that happened months ago. I undid part of it back then.

Hey, we need something to abuse now we were robbed of the tag cloud.

Still waiting for someone to do something artistic with that, given what's there...

Why when dragging the scroll bar down to the bottom of the screen does discourse make it snap back up to the top? I mean, the post count is known and the actual space used to show a post seems to be fixed width considering there's so much dead space on the sides so why can't discourse pre-determine the total length of the page and just dynamically load the posts when you scroll to the point they would be on when you use the scrollbar.
Filed under: Long standing discourse bugs that have discussed multiple times already
Filed under: I just described a difficult feature but implied it was simple to do
-
Because the browsers' implementation of scrollbars are Doing It Wrong™?
-
Why on earth are you asking me?
-
Because I clicked the closest reply button to my mouse :V
-
Oh cool I can make my edit count arbitrarily high by deleting and undeleting.
-
I thought I was witnessing a Discourse bug
-
-
True. But I thought that it was a display bug where it was going back and forth between the post and deleted message, rather than the post actually being deleted and undeleted repeatedly.

Yes but this is Discourse... just because it has not been observed as a Discourse bug does not mean it isn't one.

seriously. make a PR and i'll accept it. that's a cool feature but not one that i particularly want to spend time on.

Good job: now that you've said that, it'll probably get rate-limited.

I can't figure out which way you're pointing, when you only use two arrows.
-
That way.

That way.
Too many arrows. I demand a rigidly inflexible area of doubt and uncertainty^W^W^W^W^Wnumber of arrows.
-
So you can take an arrow to the knee, or because you're secretly Majikthise?
-
Majikthise
That guy's an overrated hack. Vroomfondel was much underappreciated, and the real hero of the story.
-
But are you demanding that you may or may not be Vroomfondel?
