Minor WTF: Kerbal Space Program Screen Resolution Settings
-
In Kerbal Space Program, I accidentally picked 1920x1080 windowed screen resolution on my 1080p monitor. Oops. There is no "Revert to previous settings" timeout thingy, so I tried setting it back but I can't click on the Apply or Accept buttons (taskbar is in the way), and there are no discoverable keyboard shortcuts either!
If only it was a standard resizable window like many other games I play, or better yet supported windowed fullscreen mode so I can run fullscreen but not have the game freak out when I do stuff on my other monitor.
-
so I can run fullscreen but not have the game freak out when I do stuff on my other monitor
I still wonder why so many games get it so fucking wrong. I've had games that were literally unplayable, because they a) didn't lock the mouse, and b) minimized whenever I clicked on the other monitor.

QFT and +1 because I have no Likes left. This is exactly what KSP does.
Even Minecraft gets it right, and Minecraft is written in Java of all things!
-
Historically, fullscreen meant exclusive direct access to screen buffer, which significantly rised performance - to the point some games were unplayable windowed (until computers got better due to Moore's law), so they didn't bother with making windowed available at all. Nowadays, developers are just lazy.
-
You have spoken I'll of KSP, it is only a matter of time before @blakeyrat comes and tells you how and why you are wrong.

Is it bad if I kinda look forward to this?
-
Can't you just temporarily set the taskbar to auto hide? or put it on the side or top? It looks like the buttons are still on screen, they're just behind the taskbar.

If I was prone to blakeyranting, I'd point out that at no point did I ask for help on solving the issue.
Moving the taskbar is exactly what I did.
-
Not at all. I summoned @blakeyrat for you to speed up the process.
-
Needs more @blakeyrat.

Apologies. I'm working on pre-release debugging, so I'm in fix-it mode.
-
Its really quite interesting how much difficulty it seems to cause game developers.
My friend plays a lot of Heroes of Newerth, and I often watch his matches in Mentor mode so that I can mock him. If I set the graphics mode to DirectX, settings go much higher and anti-aliasing works. However, if I click on the other screen, it freaks out and minimizes. If, however, I set it to OpenGL (and thereby have more aliasing... sigh) alt-tabbing works great.
Seriously, they have two substantially different behaviors in the same game! The only game I've seen that gets it completely right is Civ5.
But the best part about HoN is that my left monitor is 2560x1080, and the game is rendered no wider than 16:9! So, what does this mean? Black bars around the game on the left and right, but the UI is still rendered in those areas, and my observation of my friend's mouse movements shows them very far away from where he actually clicks. This isn't even a complicated problem... (Note that I'm not just complaining uselessly, I do go ahead and drop my res so that this issue doesn't happen, but still...)
-
UI scaling while not handicapping 4:3 screen owners with limited screen space is hard enough without your fancy 21:9 monitor.
-
If I was prone to blakeyranting, I'd point out that at no point did I ask for help on solving the issue.
-1 disapprove would not read again.

Where's @blakeyrat?
-
@blakeyrat is brewing up a rage quit. He is currently stewing in his own juices and about to come tell us again how much he hates Discourse and all the new members to the forum.

Isn't that almost a daily thing for @blakeyrat?
-
Isn't that almost a daily thing for @blakeyrat?
Not on this scale, especially since there's a raft of new members now due to the site changeover that he will have to 'educate'.
-
You forgot the @blakeyrat
-
You forgot the @blakeyrat
I didn't forget @blakeyrat, I'm just mindful of making this to be a slower burning fuse so the explosion is all the more ragey.
-
I would prefer @blakeyrat go off like C4. No slow burn for me.

Yes, but if you slow burn it, the explosion is all the more tasty.
-
But fireworks are pretty and the 4th of July is a long ways off. Just let me have this one @blakeyrat Roman candle?
-

With @blakeyrat I think it's six of one and half-a-dozen of the other.
-
With @blakeyrat, he would argue that 6 and a half dozen are two different things because the one true dozen is a baker's dozen.
-
@blakeyrat would think a baker's dozen is the worst of the worst, almost on the @mikeTheLiar scale.

Remember, Remember, the Fifth of November.
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!Fireworks are now on general sale here for this reason.
-
@blakeyrat probably would think that about a baker's dozen, because he was once molested by a baker who offered him a donut.
Seriously though, this is when all of the features of Discourse, and all of its gamification, go wrong when released on this crowd.

I only answer comments that include an @blakeyrat. This is like Jeopardy and shit.
-
Maybe @accalia could do a bot that responds to @blakeyrat mentions
-
With more @blakeyrat mentions.
-
only with his permission to harvest his posts for the markov chains.
otherwise that would be just mean and i'm not (that) mean
-
With more @blakeyrat mentions.
Do not think that I have not thought of doing such a thing. I just could not easily think of a way to do so without having access to his notifications. Continuously scraping the forum for @blakeyrat would be like a DOS attack at the rate you would have to do so to have timely responses.
-

Maybe @accalia could do a bot that replies to all of @Arantor's posts with an @blakeyrat blakeyrant?
-

That would require @accalia to write blakeyrants and I think she's too nice for that.

She could just scrape @blakeyrat's posts. Nearly everything is a blakeyrant these days.

Because one @blakeyrat is not enough?
-
FTFY. I'm sure @blakeyrat is mad at some of the old-timers that aren't me, too.
I'm not an old timer, it really doesn't make much difference.
-

Really, Discourse? Really? @Arantor, how did you eff up your post to get it to do that?
Remember, Remember, the Fifth of November.
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder treason
Should ever be @blakeyrat !Also FTFY
-
One @blakeyrat is one @blakeyrat too many most days, but if the bot threw in an @-mention of @blakeyrat on every blakeyrant, that would spam the shit out of @blakeyrat's notifications.
-
That, my dear FrostCat is a little of the Arantor magic.
Also, blakeyrat doesn't rhyme with plot in any bastardy of the English language I know.
-
Has anyone actually tested out on anyone else--I'm not volunteering either side!!--how often @mentioning causes notifications? Surely it's not on every one.

Did I mention I got shitstormed with 70 notifications in a few minutes earlier? All "Nice Post" ones too.
-
And throw another blakeyrant - ultimately causing an infinite @blakeyrat loop.
-

It's every unique name in a post. The multiples in @Intercourse's posts make a single notification.
-
Only if we program it wrong...or right. Then @blakeyrat's head would explode.
-
That, my dear FrostCat is a little of the Arantor magic.
If that's the word you want to use.
Also, blakeyrat doesn't rhyme with plot in any bastardy of the English language I know.
So? Call it artistic license to make sure he gets another notification.
-
Yeah, but every time we say @blakeyrat it should pop another one in his notification feed. I only did multiples in one because I wanted to be a cock.
-
Magic is the word I want to use.
