Status: Credit cards are suffering the :xkcd_standards: syndrome. That or this is a psy-op to punish individuals from shopping overseas (corporate can import as many products and export as many jobs as it wants though). Three months into 2024 and I've got two cards that randomly stopped working at different Asian shops. Issuers say they see the charges attempted but can't figure out why they're rejected.
And it wouldn't be a tech support problem without "try another
browsercard plskthx4using{$issuer)bye."
-
@Zenith They use
Artificial Intelligence
to detect if the payment is fraudulent or not. Why would an american use his card in an asian shop? That's fraud. For sure. No doubt.

Last year Visa at $bank rejected payment to a prototyping PCB manufacturer in .cn , the same one I sourced some boards for three years. A call to Visa solved the problem.
Personal bank account.
-
@cabrito Yeah, I tried that with two different card issuers. Both threw up their hands and told me to use a different card. Even the one with real people on phone support instead of needful doers.
-
@Zenith fuckers.
Just in case, you are using the same address for billing and delivery? At another site their police was to reject if different addresses. Notice that setting both to a remailer worked, even if obviously weren't the card billing address
-
@cabrito I've gotten away with an address mismatch before but 99.99% of the time know to use the same for both.
I think it's a problem with those stupid multi-factor authentication schemes they've all pushed where it's supposed to sometimes text you to make sure you really initiated the charge. But it never sends the text, times out, and puts up a garbage error instead of any clue as to what failed.

STATUS getting through my backlog. Dex was fairly good but a little more polish and it would have been great. Gave up on Bastion. That game is a work of art but I didn't gel with it but you can really see the beginnings of hades there. Tried to start Far Cry 3 but ubisuck wanted me to login. I might pirate it to play it after Breach and Clear Zombie edition. That's actually quite good but the studio became a contracting firm to pay the bills so no sequels.

The best of the Far Cry series (apart from the original) was Blood Dragon, as that felt like being the protagonist in an exceedingly dumb 80s action movie.

What the hell is VSIXAutoUpdater.exe doing? Crypto mining? It's been like this for tens of minutes now. I'm not even running VS here, so there shouldn't be any interference with whatever it's trying to do.

That is not how to do MFA. In we've had online purchase MFA for a decade by now, and on the very few places it doesn't work I just don't shop.
And it's VISA and MasterCard, so they can do it correctly.

One of my exes used eggs and olive oil instead of shampoo, because evil shampoo conglomerates. I think she tried butter once too.
And that wasn't the most "interesting" crazy idea she had.

Easter was last week and because heathen America, no holiday there (at least as far as work is concerned).
