I solved all of these issues by having a case that is all metal.
Alas, mine has a big glass side panel. (I could replace it, except ) It is otherwise a very good case that is both properly quiet and reconfigurable so I didn't need to fabricobble things to make all the hardware fit. Unlike with my previous case...
Yeah, my case is getting long in the tooth, since it had a large rack for 3.5" hdds that I had to cut out to make room for my latest GPU. They ave gotten ridiculously large these days.
I had to move the motherboard mounting down about 1cm or so (one unit of pre-drilled holes) to make room for the water cooler hoses on the radiator. The radiator itself fitted just fine by default, but the hoses required things to be moved down to avoid the whole two-objects-in-one-space impossibility business. Fortunately the case was pretty easy to reconfigure.
Good case. Annoying glass panel. Terrible unreadable instruction leaflet...

Status: I got a customer meeting tomorrow and besides some "pretty" PowerPoint slides I want to show some live demos of the software. We ship Windows and Linux versions. Since I have a macbook, I used to just run a VirtualBox VM, but I'm not sure if/how that still works with the M1 macbooks. So instead I had IT give me a Lenovo laptop with a clean Windows 10 image from their machine pool.
I installed two of our programs and ran through some demos with it to check that it works. Since then the laptop has been sitting on my desk, idle, while I continue to work on PowerPoint shit. Well, except that every 5 minutes or so it starts up the fans.
What the heck is it doing?! Well, nothing really. But Task Manager shows 30% CPU usage for "System", nondescriptively, every once in a while. And sometimes another 20-25% for "Antimalware Service Executable", but other times it's just "System" entertaining itself. And no, it's not looking for updates on an outdated system image, Windows says it's up to date. How do people put up with this kind of crap?

When I built my new PC last month I spent embarrassingly long trying to put a screw into a hard-to-reach mounting post which did not, in fact, have a screwhole. It had a stud. Because it had been pre-placed there by the case designer and they knew how hard to reach the center screw tends to be.

It doesn't. For that reason because our webdevs are also Mac people, they've been set up with UTM (glorified Qemu) while I port our service utilities to a more modern version of .нет.
That said, full emulation is fine for utilities that do some network stuff and mostly wait for user input. Your Cheese Fluid Dynamics will probably run like a dog.

Even when warmed up, cheese usually doesn't flow rapidly. Except for a few of the riper French ones, or any that the dog gets to in which case it will run exactly like a dog being chased by a human.

Not at all. Non-existent dogs don't impose a cheese tax at all.

The cat would disagree very much. He prefers chicken, including the chicken that is called fish and the chicken that is called beef. He's not the sharpest crayon in the marine's rations.

True, the ancients often speak in ways the modern world can no longer comprehend.

The Start menu went completely on my machine. Clicking on it did nothing, and neither did pressing the key. The usual tip (rebooting) didn't fix it.
You know what did? Running
sfc /scannow
and rebooting. Yes, really, the command that every MVP loves telling people to run. I had always believed it was basically a placebo, but apparently sometimes it actually fixes problems. Who knew? It's a good thing that I had another way of looking it up on the Internet though, because I no longer had access to the WiFi network the machine was set up for. And I couldn't change it, because the settings wouldn't open, either.

If you had never updated your computer, you wouldn't have had to run sfc /scannow to undo what the updates buggered up

Something something broken clock something something twice a day.
Statistically it had to happen eventually that it would fix something for someone.

That's my own pc, so no external administrator.

I've had this same question today, only it was taking 100% of the hard drive I/O.

My Windows wants to restart to install KB5033372.
According to Bleeping Computer this update brings Windows Copilot :do-not-want:

@Zecc it can be turned off, although it wasn't even enabled by default for me.

Skynet can’t train itself with just the cloud.

You and I are going to have words.
I have a 6 physical core, 12 logical core laptop. What the heck is it doing to consume that level of crunch power?
-
You see, had they named it "Microsoft Crypto Miner Service", it would have been a tad too obvious.
-
@Zerosquare damn thing is as clever as that, actually... because if you have Task Manager in focus it actively seems to consume fewer resources, like it knows you're watching it.
-
@Arantor It has determined that you're just very "compatible" with it. Like an old married couple, one does some shit, the other one complains, but really they wouldn't have it any other way
-
@Applied-Mediocrity and that’s fine. Why does it need to telemetry it anywhere/anyhow?
-

Instead you failed to hibernate, I had to scramble for the charger because the battery was low, and now you're stuck at 44% of installing.
-
It's now stuck at 73%. Progress, I guess.
