I've only had two months of ended-up-not-being-paid periods.

Status: Figured I wasn't depressed enough and went through a few automaker "build-a-vehicle" apps. It's the middle of November and I still can't build more than a handful of 2024 models? I built my 2006 in September 2005 and took delivery November 1st (because I explicitly refused to take delivery on Halloween). What's their excuse now?
I looked up the Nissan Skyline because I didn't remember it being a particularly exotic car. Nope, apparently it's the same thing as the GT-R and starts at $120K. Bounced around a little more and it looks like the Camaro is hanging on for one more year. Huzzah. Looking at foreign manufacturers, they don't seem to want to make automatic transmissions in cars anymore. WTF should I manually shift gears in the 21st century? With the paucity of offerings, I half expect automakers to be up on LinkedIn moaning how nOBoDy WaNts tO dRiVe aNyMoRe.
But what really annoyed me was looking up DeLorean's website. Some time back they were supposed to start building and selling new DMC-12 models (pricing available soon). I knew that was bullshit but wanted to believe. Apparently that idea was scrapped and they redesigned the thing to look like an alien time-pod. Do not want.
Also, you can't find a price anywhere. You have to pay $88 to join a club just for a chance to buy a reservation. Then the randomly-assigned reservation slot costs $3500 (but you can trade them on blockchain or something because blockchain AI machine learning synergy). Then when production starts, there's $5000 customization fee. Something tells me this car will be north of $200K. More details coming in 2023. LOL. You read through all of this marketing shit and they're clearly far more interested in exclusivity than anything including producing an actual vehicle.
And that's what irritates me. Fucking everything has to be a limited run, stratospherically priced, overhyped, exclusive toy. Cars, games, fucking breakfast cereal at the grocery store, every market has to have a few psychotically priced options that only Jeff Bezos can afford and exactly one type of blobby mush that nobody wants for everybody else.
Makes me want to adopt the Chinese "laying flat" approach to life.

Yeah that's weird. Last time I was in the market I took the literal last manual transmission in the whole plaza. Granted it was a decade ago, maybe things changed?

Thanks, DDG.
Huh. I'm surprised the B format specifier is new with .Net 8.
The way to do it before was withConvert.ToString(v, 2);

I ended my previous post with a semicolon inside a code block inside instead of a period. What does that say about me?

@Zenith Found your problem. You're trying to buy cars. American """market research""" and emissions regulations mean they just want to sell you light trucks. (Or SUVs, but I repeat myself.)
Edit: Consider the Polestar 2. Yes, I know, it's electric and you hate electric (justifiable given where you live) but at least it has a decent range and isn't luxury-targeted.

So my immediate thought is that is not just ridiculous, that's beyond ridiculous. But you Americans buy absolutely retarded cars, anyway, so maybe that's not surprising.
Then out of curiosity I checked the prices for normal, used cars. And that's way more expensive than last time I bought a car. My current car I bought in 2012, one year old, about 10.000km, for around €11.000 or so. Then I checked what those go for right now. Ignoring the difference between what the selling price is and what you'd get from the salesman, a comparable car as mine goes for €6.500+. What?!

I mean, besides spending way too much on eating out instead of cooking myself, holidays, and the €3 I spent on the watermelon game in the Nintendo store, I've basically stopped spending money many years ago. Okay, I do have an iPhone and a Switch with like 5 games, but I used my last phones for 5 or 6 years.

IME it's been Different™. As near as I can tell, if I put it to sleep while it's on battery, it goes into "Modern Standby with networking" which drains your battery to keep the computer warm. However, if I put it to sleep while docked, then unplug it, that's when it goes to sleep for real, and takes a few extra seconds to start back up. However, none of this is definitive and may change at any moment.

IIRC 20+ years ago they were selling new old stock, or rebuilt models, or something, for high-5 or 6- figure prices

Turns out Visual Studio Code's HTML indenter gets very confused if you have ending tags on the same line as a child element in a multi-line block. Namely, it just misses them entirely and creates a nice waterfall effect. That is, it turns
<div> <p>Stuff</p> <p>Stuff</p></div> <div> <p>Stuff</p> <p>Stuff</p></div> <div> <p>Stuff</p> <p>Stuff</p></div>
as
<div> <p>Stuff</p> <p>Stuff</p></div> <div> <p>Stuff</p> <p>Stuff</p></div> <div> <p>Stuff</p> <p>Stuff</p></div>

Don't blame me, blame the lazy regex-based converter I used to turn some kinda screwy LaTeX code into html. It got all the tags in the right places, but wasn't careful about line breaks between blocks.

Starting at $50K isn't luxury-targeted?
Edit: Any exterior color besides pink (sorry, "jupiter") adds another $1200 too.
More: Also, what ever happened to seats that weren't made out of recycled canvas? I can think of at least half a dozen materials I'd rather sit on than the shit your average JanSport backpack is made out of. Remember plush car seats? Or velour? At least for awhile leather was a passable option but fuck I'd rather sit on denim or wool or fiberglass insulation than the nasty vinylized canvas of the last two decades. How many people designing these things actually like cars and aren't just WEF plants doing an inside job?

Status: Going to play Alien Isolation for funsies.
I'm absolutely stuck hard-lock in the first "mission", right after entering the station, because apparently I need to contact the ship but there's literally no way to do so as (apparently) everyone is fucking turning off the power to everything right as I get there!
I've cycled and scoured all available areas and there's nothing, no hint, nada, for how to proceed.
Good jorb, now I gotta look up a walkthrough for the first gorram level of the game!

Status: Had a surprise coming back to office, as one of the windows had apparently slid up and been a lil open during the weekend. Morning temperature today was -15 C so a lil nippy outside. Methinks there be ghosts, as last week another window had slid open. And neither me nor the one I share office with has been opening windows. I think I will be doing work in the break room today.

I can’t be the only one to see the parallels between the game and your day job. Have you thought of maybe Resident Evil instead?

I’m watching a review for the new Walking Dead game.
This game is awful. The bar is set low with the first story card in the game. It's riddled with spelling mistakes and grammatical errors.
Before anyone asks... I have never been involved in game development.

I heard the control scheme sucked hockey balls. I'm also not really into games where the only thing horrible is the fact that you're apparently defenseless for no reason other than to inspire fear.

@DogsB Talking about a Walking Dead game reminded me I've watched the Uncharted movie over the weekend.
I had my expectations low, but I found it surprisingly watchable.
But I have trouble looking at Timothy Whassisname as Nate and even more Mark Wallflower as Sully.
