Just three? A bunch of years ago, I was making so many trips that I almost made platinum in the frequent flyer programme. That was miserable.

Psh. Platinum is low ELO. Come back when you’re Challenger on the Korea server.

Korea's one of the better places to do business trips to, despite the length of flights, as they insist on actually having reasonable food on their planes.

"Don't Bring Me Down" seems apt for your teammates in ELO hell.

Website flight status: “on time”.
Yeah, unless they made progress on that Time Machine, I doubt they’re going to make that.

Nothing assigned to me for this week, so Baldur's Gate 3 it is.
It's a very elaborate and engrossing experience, but it can't match the raw visceral fun of Armored Core 6.
Hard disagree.

Doubled my previous record without selling the $600 Galactus (not how I expected that to work out). Had a really good spot, a corner in fact, that likely helped. I was a little disappointed that some familiar faces didn’t show up. I got to meet the voice of Firestar from Spiderman and his Amazing Friends though. Mom indirectly helped keep my spending in check so I only bought three figures - a die cast A-Team van, Marvel Legends Scarlet Witch, and an exclusive legends class black Megatron. I even made a few hundred bucks for my friend who couldn’t attend although his selection of items to send along was dubious at best.
though has been everything else. The hotel was one I went to a few years ago. I only stopped because I registered too late one year and started going to a different one. It was still nice but the TV was weirdly placed, there were no drawers to put stuff in, the door handle inside the bathroom was missing, and the phone was dead.
Square decided to play “your settings are right where you left them.” Per-charge e-mails has been the default for, oh, a decade at least. Until they randomly shut that off. I panicked a little not seeing charges come through. When I reactivated the notifications, through the site because it’s not in the app (fuck you very much), they’re useless because they no longer contain the tax and fee breakdown (hur dur login to HipsterScript site). Also instead of getting my money deposited at the end of the each day, I only got it today because suddenly the bank I’ve received instant transfers to for a decade is magically incompatible now.
The GPS took us back a weird way so we didn’t see a food place until Roy Rogers on the turnpike. This was the Roy Rogers that was mysteriously closed early last time we stopped at it. Well, they somehow ran out of buns (along with half of the menu) and put all of the burgers on bread. Don’t expect to stop there ever again.
Also, I almost went through an entire show without a weird customer. So of course, while boxing up, this mook showed up. He wanted a deal on an already cheap figure, so I said only if he bought two. So he slowly browsed (keep in mind that I paused packing up to accommodate him) and then….decided sub-retail on two figures was too much. Asshole.
But I made some real money for a change so it all worked out!

Karlach’s definitely a 10.

Status: I should finish Aranoid (needs a few more levels, some proper balance, and fixing a weird controller bug in HTML export), but I want to start on any number of new Godot projects that are all more interesting.

@Arantor I wouldn't know, but from EA it seems that everybody else in this game is unlikeable dipshit with attitude problems that it leaves no choice anyway.
-
@topspin The trick is to track the incoming aircraft and have an idea about how long it takes to turn around from one flight to the next. (Typically about 30 minutes for a small plane, 60-90 minutes for a large one.)
Assuming you can figure out which plane it is. Sometimes easy, sometimes not...

In real life or in the game? The latter sounds a bit too authentic though.

I feel sorry for German's. It's must be very hard to be romantic with someone when everything you say comes out sounding like a Hitler speech.

I've not seen any wild animals in Armored Core and you're canonically a brain-in-a-can anyway. Any kinks of that kind are probably going to be virtual. Or virtual within virtual.

@Zenith I sent a bit of a nastygram to Square support about this. Told them I didn't appreciate having a 10-year default quietly reset because they were too lazy to do QA. Mentioned how I hate having to go to their awful website for settings that should be in the app and info that should be in the notifications. Also shit on them again for not supporting Windows, inferring I'd rather integrate with my custom applications than their still half-baked tools that nobody who's ever actually sold or shipped products get any use out of. Obviously it'll be round-filed but it felt good to ridicule those idiots just the same.

Oh yeah, that reminds me, I was eventually going to start writing support for Square just in case PayPal continued further down the dumb. Should revisit that again...

@Tsaukpaetra Stripe would be a better alternative or at least a third option.

I'm just hoping I made my "generic interface" agnostic enough for it to not matter in the long run.
I should really test that theory by finishing implementing the "Cash" submodule to do more than go "Uh huh, yep, paid in full because you asked nicely, yup!"

Is Square up? Two times recently I wanted to buy something from people that use Square and it was down. Green paper still worked, though.

So the theory goes, it shouldn't matter if I can just simply switch providers on a whim.
Edit: Apparently it was down for a hot second last week?

It was down for more than half a day, during the afternoon and evening here in the US.
The other one was back in July and I never bothered to find out what happened. It apparently wasn't news-worthy, though.
Edit: Square's posts during the outage. As always, most have nothing to say.

We are talking about a system that can be disrupted by any random Internet blurp, at least as far as one transaction at one point of sale device is concerned. I could have waited for them to reboot (or whatever) or I could just give them some cash and get on with my day.
The guy I was talking to on Thursday was a little frustrated that the system had been down for hours.
-
@Parody most people understand the blip and are (usually) patient enough to try it again., and everyone is (mostly) sympathetic to “computer’s down” but it does suck for everyone involved in that situation.
I still hate how we’ve normalised “shit’s broken, sorry” to be barely above a shrug at this point. Why can’t our industry do better?
-
@Arantor said in The Official Status Thread:

You've met people. This is rhetorical, right?
-
@Arantor said in The Official Status Thread:
Why can’t our industry do better?
Because the incentives to do so aren't there (but I've said this before).
-
@Zecc sadly yes.
-
@Zerosquare I know, but just for once I’d like things to be better because of aspiration and desire to do better rather than because money.
But of course I am firmly in that socialist mindset and view everything under a lens of “fuck money, do it because it’s the right thing to do”
-

@Zerosquare I generally do stay away from it, very far away.

Even money isn’t enough of an incentive to do it properly these days.
give us a couple days to fix it properly now and we won’t have to revisit this every release until you fire us.
lets build a better tomorrow, tomorrow.
see ya next month. Its broken again.
-
@Arantor said in The Official Status Thread:

Because the rot has set in at the big Silly Valley corps. They don't want their employees to do better, so the employees instead keep on adding to and churning over the turd pile that is the Javascript ecosystem.
(Stretching the "ecosystem" analogy further...) They used to be the big beasts, but now they're the parasites.
-
@Arantor said in The Official Status Thread:

It would seem that, yes, computing industry is the most broken of them all.
But it's a problem in every industry. We just don't see others from the inside. Industries are many and different, therefore ultimately every industry has just one common problem factor - people themselves.
Those who don't want to fix things have no heart.
Those who believe it can be fixed have no brain.
-
@Applied-Mediocrity I dunno. Given how pervasive moving services that used to be in person, to an online format has brought a lot more people to interact with our output. Seemingly everyone has a computer in their pocket, unthinkable when I was young, and brokenness is less a byproduct and almost a norm.
You’re right that people are ultimately the cause. Maybe we need less of them.
