All this great modern security...
Imagine you needed to renew your house door keys every couple of months. The lock & key service industry would be a fast growing business then.

Status: I actually have a use-case for Python's for-else.
Only that I'm currently writing C++. Oh well, the two extra lines for the flag won't kill me.

@BernieTheBernie every couple of months that should be automated for free except when it fails and you have to scramble to deal with it.

@topspin Cobble together something horrifying with a goto?

I wrote a labeled break a few months back. Noone knew what it was.
STATUS Currently trying NOT to sabotage a release. I might be failing.

Hmm, I think I may have written one of those. Once. In 40+ years of programming.

I may have written an indexed break once or twice (
break 2;
). But I've never worked in a language which had labeled breaks.

Python's for-else.
TIL
Now I need to get it added to JavaScript. Or just graft it on myself with babel.

You need to be doing something moderately complicated with nested loops for them to make any sense, and most of the time you can handle those things with a helper function/method and an early
return
instead.

It was a two minute long conversation, and the swaying was so distracting I have no idea what the conversation was about.

Specially when resulting from excessive zoom-in, too narrow close-ups.

Which is funny that the multi-thousand-dollar camera "can't handle that", so you know it's intentional....

Motherfucker! This worked perfectly fine before!

Denied. Nothing above 5 characters would be remembered.
Also for me.

@DogsB the tale of the little red hen. She wants to bake bread, asks help from a duck, a cat and a dog for all the things involved: planting the wheat, threshing the wheat, milling it into flour or the baking. And after the hen does all these things, no bread for those who didn’t help.

Status: I got three emails from my employer's external payroll/benefits service asking me to approve checks, presumably the payroll check for tomorrow. Why 3? I dunno. I've never gotten a request like this before, at all, let alone 3 of them.
The link in the email looks legit. I did log into the site — not using the link in the email, of course. I logged in using a FF tab with their site already open (but not logged in) from the last time I logged in, when I enrolled in benefits a few months ago. (I had to change my password, because password expiration. Security best practices.)
Having logged in, I searched diligently for "Approve My Check®", or any other indication that I need to take action on anything (except reporting my vaccination status; to that), but to no avail. I also tried typing in the direct link from the email for their PHP script to do its thing with, but it told me the random gibberish parameter string was "invalid or expired". I hope my check gets deposited tomorrow morning.
-
@HardwareGeek And I got an email from my employer's payroll department (not the external service company) apologizing. Apparently, it's a new feature they're testing (for what reason is not explained), and the email shouldn't have actually been sent.

Status: I’m on vacation but still had to do a little research on payment processors.
What a lazy over-marketed field of business.
I think Stripe will do what I want, so I won’t have to change my workflow that much. BluePay got bought by Clover and now alot of their documentation has dead links. Too bad because they used to have a Windows card reader but I can’t tell if that’s still true.
I was considering Authorize.net but their webpage is so fucking circular. The landing pages are lots of word salad and stock photos. Every “learn more” button or link takes me to another useless landing page. I’m interested in their virtual terminal, which they say runs on Windows and can be paired with an encrypted card reader, but that’s the extent of the information that I can pry from them.
Also I’m tired of Google showing links about other stuff like Square being Windows compatible. Apparently they have a Mac app now but that’s not the same as Windows.
-
@Zenith said in The Official Status Thread:

We use them for fully online card processing. Would not recommend. Or maybe we're just doing it wrong. Their website is one of the more obtuse ones I've dealt with, even once you're a customer.

status: well. First time I've seen it spelled "allot" like that. Usually but spell-check did the needful?

-
@Tsaukpaetra “allot” is a word in its own right, but it is possible the person meant “a lot”, typed “alot” and spell check (rather than auto cucumber) suggested “allot”.
-
@Arantor It's allotted the same amount of space.
