Status: Why would someone supplying a 4K monitor from in the UK to a UK address provide the only power cable with a Schuko connector on the wall end? I have a spare correct cable (and a good adaptor too, as it happens) so it isn't a big deal, but even so it is still .

@dkf The supplier voted against Brexit and is trying to force you to follow Continental standards?
-
@dkf Maybe they originally bought it while on the continent, moved here against all good advice and just stuck an adaptor on it for the interim?

68°F, exactly. That's a conversion I've had memorized for decades.

It doesn't matter. What matters (apart from the blood sacrifice when removing the power supply compartment shielding from the case) is that I bought the wrong sort of memory modules.

@BernieTheBernie It rained here too but it's still hot as hell. I also had to put up with that lady that hates PA and complains how dirty everything here is. She's had at least three years to move but can't seem to get it together and get the hell out.

You should feel bad for feeling bad, since you don't need to justify it.

@dcon That sounds like some kind of "smart charge" battery protection routine at work. Laptops always on the wall should not peg the battery at 100% all the time, if memory serves.

Step 2. Blame the intern
Step 3. ???
Step 4. It's 5 o'clock somewhere!

Will you also get a receipt showing ÂŁ34 only, which you can show to your wife when she asks about your money wasting behavior?
-
@BernieTheBernie no, I showed her the cart before I press buy and she didn't seem overly bothered. Though given the spending on plants and pots and other things, it would be mildly weird for her to refuse given that I not only actively encourage her hobbies but help fund them, such as sourcing a plant stand via Alibaba a couple of weeks ago. (Ended up being ÂŁ72 for the stand, ÂŁ130-odd in shipping, and still cheaper than buying the exact same thing from any local 'distributor')

Moving Status
Moving to a new apartment and transferring my internet service (same provider). Turns out the builder (who input the info into their system) set up my building (of the 4, labeled A, B, C, and D) without the letter. So B101? In there like that. A101? In the system as just apartment 101. Which caused no end of confusion when trying to transfer things.
Edit: and teh first customer service guy I called (after the website just barfed) just robotically said "yeah, we don't serve that. Go talk to your landlord." The landlord was like " we set that up specifically to be all with that provider and the builder input all the details. And one of our office people lives right next to you and has <ISP>." So I called the customer service back and this tech (who tried to upsell like crazy, but I understand that's their job) actually dug into it and saw that all the other buildings had letters but building A didn't.

Status: Every time I look at the .NET reference source, I regret it.
I decided today, instead of wasting time on PowerBI, I was going to fix some problems in my custom DataGridView. What a stupid control. It's derived from Control with a couple of Scrollbars tossed in and five million lines of code for the rest. I'd managed to activate the native OS scrollbars and get rid of the dumb Scrollbars but that had some weird side effects.
Scrolling in Windows is weird. You click a scrollbar. It sends a scroll message to your control. Then you're responsible for both reacting to the scroll message and redrawing the scrollbar.
You're also doing half of the work of autosizing because you're determining if the contents are big enough to need a scrollbar. That's complicated by the fact that the framework is full of magic numbers for padding and margin. I learned today that my off-by-one bug was because adding up the column header widths wasn't enough. Row headers, even when turned off, take up one horizontal pixel. My guess is it's the same for column headers and vertical pixels, just nobody ever shuts those off.
I still can't get rid of that 3/4 row high blank spot at the bottom. When you let the framework do its thing, it's painted like the background. When you anger God by controlling your own scrollbars, it's not painted at all.
Plus somehow I got the horizontal scrollbar screwed up, in that the handle keeps changing size and sometimes I can't get the first column displayed completely. I was reading through the code to try to find out how they determined those details (I used rows for my boundaries vertically so it didn't overflow with a long list). For the life of me I cannot tell what they did because it's so convoluted because they skipped straight from Control to DataGridControl without so much as a ScrollableControl class in between.

Isn't it ported straight from the legacy MFC classes? Very ugly.

Status: Trying some new approaches and all that. Been a bit since I drew much of anything, unfortunately. Apparently a bit under six total hours of active pixel manipulation:
The last (and only) time I tried to start with grey and add colour afterwards, Krita was supremely retarded about it and I worried Iâd pretty much wasted all the prior effort. I might have an idea of how to go about it in a way that could work better (if only for being a different approach), but I donât necessarily think I want colour here anyway.
Fakeš edit:
š well, the edit is an edit. But this isnât an edit. Not as of writing, anyway.

Not sure. I know the one used by SQL Enterprise Manager (SSMS for 2000) is MFC but I think it's different.
When you get down to it, I think what makes grid controls difficult is that the native scrollbar wants to scroll the entire control. I don't think there's a way to exempt the row/column headers. You'd have to nest two controls together and hijack events from the outer one. Quickly starts to look as dumb as HTML.

Certainly a distinction from the work of almost five years ago. I do recall worrying Iâd never know how to improveâŚ
Clearly doing a 100% daily inktober challenge unlocks secret skills. That or the massive tablet.

I just don't watch them, or if it's something I really want to see (there's only about 1 or 2 channels I'll do this, and only a very few videos), I open it in a new tab (so it doesn't autoplay) and edit the URL to play it as a normal, non-short video.

They can (except for the stupid portrait format), but you have to manually unfuck the UI.
Why? Because "compete with TikTok."
