Does anyone sell IoS smoke detectors yet?
The company that makes my IoS burglar alarm is willing to sell me one.
(It's not really IoS because no shit it's got a 4G chip in it - it automatically phones home and tells the company to call the cops. Or in this case, the fire department.)

You should get it vaccinated against COVID. Then it would have a 5G chip.

Manufacturing water is always expensive.

@Zerosquare … ok, using WEP is a , but a sane design should have another layer of authentication on the application level.

@Tsaukpaetra Take care not to put anything in which you are not going to be able to get out.

To be fair, it doesn't let them spy very well.

Nest does. But Nest's smoke detectors are actually really nice

A couple of years ago, we learned about the poopoxcalypse by a cleaning robot: a small pet left some on the floor, and the robot distributed it well all over the appartment.
Now, a producer of cleaning robots has announced that its new product will recognize such a hazard, and no more cause a poopocalypse:
https://www.cnet.com/home/kitchen-and-household/irobots-new-roomba-solves-the-poopocalypse-problem-and-actually-avoids-dog-poop/
Do you dare to test it? I don't.

@BernieTheBernie Would have hated to be the engineering intern responsible for conducting the tests.

Depends on his job description.
If he was responsible for leaving some on the office floor, ...
Still a shitty job, anyway.

iRobot trained [the vacuum's] ML (machine learning) algorithms using hundreds of thousands of images of real, fake, and simulated dog and cat waste.
Now THAT's how you properly design an Internet of Shit device
-
@Zerosquare But note that it will fail when your pet has cholera and thus a rather liquid shit.

"They are getting so tech-savvy."—yeah right, buying a phone hot-glued into a flipflop is max n3rd
Speaking of flipflops AKA bi-stable multivibrators, it should be a breeze to hack one of those Bluetooth-enabled buttplugs to emit morse code. It's kinda low bandwidth and you'd still have to come up (no pun intended) with an uplink channel but before they introduce cavity exams before the exams you should be fine.

And now I have y'all thinking of butt-clenching morse code...

Word on the street is that a rival drone company that lost the bid interfered to overwhelm the drones nav system!

Not like I hadn't thought of that :D
I don't think it's fast enough though. OTOH, if you can sit the whole exam like this without coming and still fail, you have a promising career in pr0n ahead.

As it makes the aforementioned clenching more noticeable.

@boomzilla there's so many WTFs in this, it'd take the garage to count them all.
-
@topspin The biggest is that the test apparently tests the wrong things. Not that it wasn't expected in Asia.
-
Then again ... all-in-all the phone embedded in flip-flops + earpiece is quite the low-tech solution, relatively speaking. Sure, it was sold for ~8k $, but as they say, parts were about 400$. Even that seems expensive to me, but whatever.
Basically, something like this would accessible to a lot of students. And it's not even particularly clever.
So, if you don't live in India and can't shut down the regions internet, can't make the students do the exams in their underwear and so on ... what do you do? Faraday cages? Give up?

@DogsB Been running into this kinda of shit for a while. It happens plenty just inside of Europe as well.
To get a different country's apps on Android, you need to change your region. That involves switching over the associated Google account. From what I remember, there's a pretty significant cooldown period before you can do it again (plus some additional requirements - payment method & phone number?).

It's less of a problem on Android because you can sideload.
-

Doesn't mean that it isn't annoying as fuck, though.
Edit: And you somehow need to get access to the apk.

Kind of makes me wonder if these sort of apps are also subject to the fairly recent EU rule that requires streaming services to show you content from the country in which you took out the subscription, rather than the country you’re currently in if you happen to be abroad.
