@dkf They didn't. Watching the video really slow, you can see that the turning cars were going to miss/pass each other, until the car coming straight crashed into the sedan, pushing it into the white van's path.

Not too far off from how I actually drove as a teen.

I saw these videos today, and was reminded of some discussions we've had here about the place of bikes on the road.

Well...basically after they shoot it off and the car fills with smoke (as shown) they swerve around, one of the doors comes open and then...the video ends.

I have one of these right where I live.
There's also another roundabout here that doesn't really work, although without traffic lights. (To be fair, neither are as stroke-inducing as @loopback0's)We built this city on

What about a roundabout with a tram junction in the middle:
https://www.google.com/maps/@50.1008689,14.3933659,46a,35y,106.13h,72.08t/data=!3m1!1e3!5m1!1e4It's one of the oldest roundabouts in Prague, near where I work. It does not have lights on the roundabout itself, but it does have them on the exit to the right. It only guards a pedestrian crossing to the tram stop there, and it is needed to interrupt the flow of pedestrians so the cars can also get through sometimes (otherwise pedestrians have priority on crossings).
Then there is this roundabout. The tram line is just crossing it, but this one is protected by lights:
https://www.google.com/maps/@28.4597223,-16.2499861,74a,35y,0.75h,53.66t/data=!3m1!1e3!5m1!1e4And this ovalabout is hard to forget too:
https://www.google.com/maps/@32.6416798,-16.9484641,189a,35y,42.94h,66.96t/data=!3m1!1e3!5m1!1e4Yes, that long noodle is effectively just widely separated lanes, but marked as one round- or rather oval-about.

What about a roundabout with a tram junction in the middle:
I had to pass through one of these last year:
Realer Irrsinn: Der Oststadtkreisel in Karlsruhe | extra 3 | NDR – 02:43
— extra 3It's not just painful to navigate but the locals are absolute pricks, too.
Picture the following situation: there's a shitload of traffic (much more than in the picture), I don't know the street layout there, need to go the green way and the lanes on the street are hard to see so it's pretty damn hard to tell in advance where I can go without passing into another lane without cutting someone off. (You do not have priority in this "roundabout" over people entering it) I am roughly where the red circled car is, after I somehow managed to get in there. There's a tram passing right in front of me and cars to my left and behind me. Also I think there's currently a red traffic light, although I don't see it in the picture.
While I'm already having trouble with this mess, the guy behind has the nerve to honk at me. Where the fuck do you want me to go? Ram into the tram?! I'm just waiting here trying to get out of this hell.E: Just a tram, not a junction.

I don't get the honking. I don't think I've ever heard anyone honk in NL other than in cases of immediate life-threatening danger.
-
only 1 fatal crash in the pas 5 years
Hard to have a fatal crash when cars are moving at 5kmh
-
@boomzilla Reminder: there are an additional 2 lanes of road traffic, 2 lanes of light rail traffic, and 2 lanes of heavy rail traffic not shown in that Dupont Circle image. Because they're underneath.

@hungrier What's with the LSD lines terminating in mid-air?

@boomzilla
Except they don’t apply to cyclists at the same way as cars.
-
@izzion Only in those six states. Most other jurisdictions require cyclists to follow the same rules as any other vehicle. Here are the requirements for where @boomzilla and I live:
Every person riding a bicycle, electric personal assistive mobility device, electric power-assisted bicycle, moped, motorized skateboard or scooter, or animal or driving an animal on a highway shall be subject to the provisions of this chapter and shall have all of the rights and duties applicable to the driver of a vehicle, unless the context of the provision clearly indicates otherwise.
(2) At an intersection, a person operating a bicycle, play vehicle, or unicycle is subject to all traffic control signals, as provided in §§ 21–202 and 21–203 of this title.
https://www.dcregs.dc.gov/Common/DCMR/SectionList.aspx?SectionNumber=18-1201
1201.15 No person shall operate a bicycle except in obedience to the instructions of official traffic control signals, signs, and other control devices applicable to vehicles, unless otherwise directed by a police officer or other person authorized to direct and control traffic.
