She should have just scanned in the photocopy, embedded it in a Word document, and emailed it.

Status: Installed the new service I've been working on in a test deployment (not yet an automated process; we're still exploring how to do that) and have started testing it against the old clients. There were a few glitches along the way (such as a dumb stack overflow caused by a property deep inside being self-referential and the code to prevent it being a little bit too specific) but it's gone from not-working-at-all to answering-complex-queries and I'm pretty happy. (There were a few complicated bits and pieces involved; the service is far too hard to bootstrap right now, but I don't know why.)
On Thursday I'll start trying to schedule actual workloads on it. Which will exercise yet more currently-untested code and will likely blow up a bit more along the way. Which is why one tests…

Still no idea what to buy as a stylus. I doublt my note's stylus will work on it so maybe its back to pen and paper.
Any capacitive stylus should work, and unless the Note uses some special fancy technology, its stylus should be one
The Note does have an active stylus IIRC. I think it even yells at you if you use the same stylus between different models of phone...

They already tried their own son and a cousin, who actually managed to make it worse. Before they touched it the main complaint was that it was godawful slow.

Is the "shit" you're talking about that they renamed "processes" tab to "details" and so you didn't think to click there?
Takes 10 seconds to populate. Fucking GUI junk.
This is why I always have it open. Just in case....

Status There's something beautiful about a minimal PR that only changes the lines that needed to change. I've got a co-worker who likes to reformat things (including changing spacing, deleting spurious spaces after commas, etc). And sometimes re-orders entire files[1]. Which is super obnoxious to review.
[1] Don't get me wrong. Those files really need to have weight-loss surgery. With a chainsaw. But when you have a large set of functional changes that get lost because you decided to change the ordering of methods from grouping all creates together, all reads together, etc to grouped by topic[2]...
[2] the fact that there needs to be grouping in that way is a clear sign that the class needs to get split into a bunch of more cohesive ones. But due to decisions made a while ago, that requires...work. Lots and lots of work. Stupid pseudo-but-not-really-repositories....

Functional changes good. Cosmetic changes good. Mixing them in the same PR bad.

For their intensive purposes, it was not. So I'm breathing new life into it for them.

I think there's something a bit screwy about our process on that part. We've got a strong "one PR per ticket" mentality (I'm not sure that's actually policy, but it's the mindset), so formatting changes just get jumbled up with functional changes.

Easy. Create a new ticket "Format this
" and make the real ticket dependent on it. 2 tickets, 2 PRs, life is good.

Tickets have to be ingested by the team, prioritized, and there's a limit to tickets in progress at once. But I've considered it.

Well was she correct?
I've just realized I now can't recommend what I watched without having spoiled part of the ending. Oops.
Anyway, if you've enjoyed La Casa de Papel (Money Heist), you might like Squid Game. They've got masked people in red uniforms and everything (otherwise the plot is completely different).

I started to reject prs with large amounts of whitespace changes out of hand. Life is too short to wade through that shit. They're also polluting the history for no good reason.
-

I've enjoyed it at the beginning. Then they realized they have to drag it on forever in "24" style to get ever more episodes out of it, which made it annoying.

I killed it by virtue of killing my system because somehow VirtualBox locked up the SATA controller on my PC.
Gave the VM 8 gigs of RAM and four cores, turned of VirtualBox's disk cache (because apparently that was the major problem before according to a wacky error it spat up) and still...
You know what? Fuck it, I'll let it run overnight.
I really need to reformat my PC some time...

Sometimes I wonder if Polish diacritics were initially a text rendering bug that got marketed as a feature.

It's pretty easy to check how rusty a car is though, so check before it's scrapped?
-
@Carnage I know. He's just being stupid. He didn't want to have the car repaired either so this is an easy out for him. Now he can bitch about not having a spare car too.
Edit: I don't understand this mentality. KBB says any car over 10 years old is worth almost a nickel, whether it's a pristine Ferrari or a Pinto hit by a train (twice). So any time you want to do anything more than change the brakes, you get the "oh me, oh my, so 'spensive, not worth it" from people. Yet, somehow, it's totally cost effective to go out and spend $30K+ on a new car. Yep, can't afford $500 once but $500 every month for the next five years is totally doable.
