I worried she might have a tough time in school when they her full name.
I remember in kindergarten asking the teacher how to spell my name. I knew how to spell my nickname, but not my legal name. Nowadays, it differentiates coworkers who know me from those who only know my name from company directory, email, badge, or whatever, which often reflect the official name used on the hiring paperwork rather than what I call myself in personal interactions.
My last name is one of those Irish/Scottish names with Mac/Mc and the next letter capitalized.
My first grade teacher insisted on putting a space between the c and the capitalized letter. That was not my name.
When we were tracing our names, after the c, I'd pickup the paper and move it so that the capital letter was positioned properly without a space.
With my husband's name, work and school called him the real first name (which typically a shortened version of a longer name), when I met him, friends and family all called him by his nickname which was based on his last name.
It is funny how people screwed up his name. Let's say it is Jim Smith and his nickname is Smitty.
My grandmother would send checks to Smittie Smith. Everyone also were blinded by the y so they always used ie.

Better than a bunch of nerds spunking everywhere over make believe pixel animals?

I'm known by two different people from two different countries by two very different nicknames. As in barely a letter in common.
We've all been on the same call together and they've each addressed me by the nickname that each knows. I'm not sure they've realized that.
They both know my full name though, which makes the situation less funny.

My daughter has the full name, at home and with family we use the nickname. So much so, I worried she might have a tough time in school when they her full name.
My uncle is notorious for making up nicknames for people and they evolve over time and end up with no discernable relation to the person in question.
Ray --> Pie
Keith --> Cheesel Bevel
Steve --> Meat locker
etc...Yeah, that was great fun as a kid, never knowing anybodys actual name.

I've occasionally pondered why someone would want to consume vaporeon in a permanent manner like this. Vore is certainly an interesting kink, for sure...
Wait, sorry, that's not very funny....

@Tsaukpaetra it's an ice pokemon. And nobody would miss Jynx. Hence the choice for Vaporeon for a smoothie.

Are you sure he just didn't have difficulty remembering your real names?
My grandfather used to give a description that was factually wildly off, if anyone ever asked what the plot of the movie playing on TV was. You'd walk into the living room, and ask what was going on on TV. And the answer was.... it's hard to even describe. Like, say, "That guy went to talk to the other guy, and they went to war with this bunch now." When describing the first half of True Lies.
We never figured out if he really had trouble understanding the plot, or if he just didn't want people bothering him in the middle of the movie. But if he had memory issues, he hid them very, very well in every other aspect. So we're still not 100%.

And last only one day!
Related: the other day in a cafeteria the tables were apparently (if the brand blurb written on them is to be believed) made of recycled coffee ground.

@El_Heffe That's been circulating around for millenia, with varying airlines in the title. It couldn't have all happened at FedEx, because some of the later reference military equipment (IFF, target radar). Whether it happened at all is long lost to the mists of time.

Oh noes! A repost. We must follow the same people.
-
@Zecc It appears to be real. It can even be purchased from Amazon, apparently scanned from the original edition. According to the first comment on goodreads:
Let me tell you I was bitterly disappointed to learn that this book is, in fact, an instructional guide to the profitable husbandry of ducks as a craft. There is not one sliver of insight about holding ducks accountable for their crimes against humanity, Earth or God.

Quite sure, my uncle could recite the entire lineage of the nicknames. Some of these were 20-30 names deep and they were consistent from year to year (and would slowly grow longer).

(Actually, he potentially could be living. He disappeared in Mexico but nobody has actually reported seeing him die. Granted, he'd be nearly 180 years old, but there's always that one chance....

I hate Irish spellings. Sean, in my head is always seen. I was reading books using the name as a kid, but didn't know how it was supposed to be pronounced.Ah yes. The wonders of English. My poem for the day.
Sean Bean did not choose to lose,
He was not chosen to be frozen
He was just observing the motion of the ocean
While drinking booze on a cruise.After some tough thoughts
And feeling a little loose after some juice,
That one tone was not gone.

I hate it tht tht guy consistently spells tht "tht".
-
@obeselymorbid gotta stay within 140 chars.
-
@Gąska In ths particular instance, removing the first "tht" would leave more thn enough space to write th second "that" in full.
