@doctorjones that they have @whamensrites as a handle at least hints at it not being serious.
many PhDs. not parody.
is also a sure sign.
Y'all need to play the Poe-Or-Noe game more often.

But who pays for the telescopes!?!?!
Oops. Wrong thread. Sorry.

@boomzilla Ali G. has announced that the rabbits will be provided with a submersible optics package at his own expense.

There are PhDs. Then there are PhDuhs. I often run into these people. (Sometimes I really want to run over them.)

Some of the obtusest people I know have PhDs. Even in "hard" subjects. They're frequently very good at one very narrow little thing and useless outside of it.
-
@benjamin-hall Generally speaking, people who have PhDs and crow about it (it's in their voicemail, email footer, etc.) are the dumbest people on Earth.
People who have PhDs but never mention it, those guys are ok.

I deploy mine strategically, mainly to over-awe parents who think they know my job better than I do. Basically, I'm cynically using it to awe those who (foolishly) can be awed by big-name credentials. That's because I'm an awful human being, but...
-
@benjamin-hall It takes a lot of effort to get one, you're literally entitled to use it. A college degree was already too much work for me, I don't wanna be anywhere near an university anymore.
-
@sockpuppet7 Yeah but it's effort in paperwork and schmoozing. Virtually none of it has to do with building shit that has value.
-
Let's check how @initiativeq is doing... Well, if I join now I can still secure an estimated value of $140037. Now what is that number based off? Because I am pretty sure it was the same value when this topic was created, it just goes slightly down constantly.... Hmm... I left the tab open for a bit and it dropped down to $139800. But then I refreshed the page and it was back up to $140037. Whew, good it regained the lost value so fast!
Also, this shit uses FullStory.
FullStory records and reproduces real user experiences on your site helping you support customers, boost conversions, and debug faster.
Although, maybe they should just try open their own damn site in all popular browsers too.
Some quality webdesign right there.
Also, more fun with FullStory:
Does this analytics tool record what the user enters into forms? Apparently, yes it does. But it automatically excludes some elements. Unless they're named differently than the standard.
I wonder if it's possible to break FullStory by adding the
fs-hide
class to the<html>
tag with the dev tools...I'm sure there's some more -ery hiding in there too. Although if there's more they may need their own topic too...

Works well enough with a configurable exclusion list. Until you run into that customer who randomizes the submit name of their password and credit card fields for extra security.
(Different product same problem).

Especially in hard subjects. Not too surprising, it's quite similar to being "a nerd" in general. You might be very focused and knowledgeable about your favorite thing, but completely oblivious to some other things, even if they're "not hard" in general.
Me, for example, I'm good with software and stuff like that but I'm generally a klutz, don't know about fashion, etc. But nothing compared to some of my math-background colleagues, they're (some, at least) detached from this world.

@PleegWat Lotus Notes needs to be killed with fire, on that note.

Noo, when you invite 5 new people, you become an Evangelist and you start getting more fake money when you invite even more people! It's like, you work for free, and then you start to earn money! Fake money!!!one

Hey @anotherusername, got anything?
-
I just got an email from OmiseGO Gold project, which doesn't ring a bell to me at all. This q thing is the only crypto related thing I've ever had anything to do with. Are they related? Anyone else had the same email?
-
@Jaloopa Their website's down which isn't a good sign. "It's like Promise but without any PR!"

IIRC wouldn't you be speaking German if it wasn't a thing?
-
@Polygeekery I hear there were actually more countries in world war 2 than America and Germany
-
@Polygeekery I already speak German. I would say the reason German isn't my first language is mainly down to the Russians, along with all the other countries in between the UK and Germany.
The US helped by providing materials and arms. Very useful for sure, but hardly worth the bizarre 'saviour of the world' image some people want to give it, especially given its global actions in the years since.
-
@Jaloopa They won all the world wars the same way as every World Series.

@blakeyrat And look at the crazy shit the Japanese have come up with since then.

Yeah, but the Japanese weren't much interested in your part of the world.

I have a friend who has a Ph.D. from a top-ranked school, a J.D. and a license to practice law. He never mentions it (unless someone brings it up). His FB page only mentions his bachelors at a middling school. He earns his living by being a host in a restaurant, babysitting, meat-cutting, telemarketing, etc. He rents a room in the home of a hoarder, because that's all he can afford.

So far the founder appears to be credible, and the downside appears to be spending some of your time and credibility to invite new members, hence if you've considered that as a worthy investment, please sign up here Initiative Q is building a new payment network and giving away significant sums of their future currency to early adopters. It’s by invite only and I have a limited number of invites. My personal invite link: [mod - elided - @PJH]

It's kind of a crappy thing to put in search terms, because that's pretty much just part of the "copy/paste" thing they give you to share it out when you sign up.

I'd say he's guilty of spamming. I don't know if he signed up a week ago just to post that, but when that's his only contribution to the forum, I'm not inclined to cut him a lot of slack.

Insomuch as they're not an AI, I suppose. Not that that's a reason to question credibility or anything...
