Check out your spam folder for GOG emails. I've got a "find 7 differences" puzzle where the prize is big discounts for some games. Dunno if it's different for each person, but I've got Jazz Jackrabbit 2, the Syberia trilogy, Cat Quest, and over a dozen other games that I don't really care about. The discounts were around -80%.
BeyondCompare makes short work of that puzzle.
Crossing my eyes a bit made short work of it

Gimp too.
@HardwareGeek said in Game Deals Thread:
Nah. Just take a screenshot of both images. Paste both into Gimp.

for (anchor of stupidTable.querySelectorAll("a")) { window.open(anchor.href); }
You get the idea.

@Parody so you've got the easy part done. Now how do you automate checking which of the 150 open tabs actually contain the codes?
Are you a university professor by any chance? Because showing how to do the trivial part and leaving the actual work untouched reminds me a lot of university professors.

With eyes (and a browser that supports single key shortcuts).

I don't know what the "Code" and "No Code" pages look like, otherwise I would have included it. It might be as simple as checking the
<TITLE>
or looking for an element with.codeHere
.Doing it manually (
Ctrl-W Ctrl-W Ctrl-W copy code to other window Ctrl-W Ctrl-W ...
) wouldn't take very long either, but if you're willing to do that why didn't you just do the puzzle? Are you a university professor by any chance? Because showing how to do the trivial part and leaving the actual work untouched reminds me a lot of university professors.
This does sound like a homework assignment, though.

It's a find the differences puzzle - y'all are way overcomplicating it. Use your eyes.

But that wouldn't be enough effort to brag about!

I can’t believe a store selling video games could so blatantly discriminate against the visually-impaired.

Is this the game with the video of a ton of horses someone posted a while ago?
-
@Zecc said in Game Deals Thread:
a ton of horses
Depending on breed and age, that may be a single horse. A single draft horse, like a Clydesdale, may be 1000kg or more. Thoroughbred racing horses are about half that, and miniature horses may be only 100–200kg. Juveniles of any breed will, of course, be much smaller and lighter than mature adults, but you still won't have more than a couple dozen to reach a ton.

Until the 14th, XCOM 2 is discounted 92% on Steam, bringing it to only five US dollars (and a little over 7
LOCAL_CURRENCY
s, because online stores always rip off this market). That’s apparently the lowest ever, across all stores.I’ve never played anything in the series, but for that price, it’s probably worth it, right?
-
@kazitor I haven't played the second one, but have a lot of hours on enemy unknown. Very good implementation of the whole base building, resource management turn based strategy genre
-
Itch.io has a bundle for $7 USD, including Baba Is You and Frog Fractions, as well as some other stuff I've never heard of.
-
If you don't mind getting uplay on you, Assassin's creed chronicles: China is free at the moment
-
@Jaloopa Squueeeeeeeeeee!!!!.... I recently bought Origins with something like 80% discount, so I already drank that koolaid.
FYI their spyware is called Ubisoft Connect now.
-
If you like escape rooms, there's a game called "we were here" that's currently free on PSN and Steam.
It's a 2 player escape room, it's very good, considering it's free. I'd say it's between 1 and 2 hours of playtime. It's definitely worth giving it a try if you've got someone to play with.
-
FFS. My password to the site wasn't working because they've silently trimmed it to 16 characters.
And the way I learned this was by asking for a password reset, only because the password reset screen tells me the password should be between 8 and 16 characters, while still accepting more than that it the input fields, same as the login screen today and the registration screen days ago.And now they tell me the game is activated and will appear on the app, but it's not; even after multiple restarts.
And the link from the site asking to open the game in the app makes a popup appear asking for an activation code which I don't have.

I have an account from when black flag was free, which I'll get round to playing one of these days

Update on the above: still no activation code sent to my email; deleting the cache directory under their program resulted in game thumbnails being redownloaded, but still no new game listed; redownloading the client when they suggest it after claim the game for the nth time resulted in the installer recognizing there's s more recent version already installed.
Just about the only thing I can do now is contact their support, but whatever.

Don't know how much longer this is live, but Indiegala has some special event with a crapload of giveaways. I've heard of Syberia so maybe those are good, the rest might not be worth the price of free

I've played a couple of these:
Syberia is a very good game that was positively compared with The Longest Journey back in the day due to the atmosphere. Syberia II wasn't as good in my opinion but I still enjoyed it. Haven't played the third yet and there's a prequel coming. It helps that I loved wooly mammoths when I was a kid. :)
Steam says I've completed Whispering Willows in ~4 hours but I don't remember it. Part of a game bundle?
Don't know any of the others.

"Press X To Not Die" is free on Ingiegala. It's a poorly acted FMV game with QTEs (surprise!) and literally anything else would be a better use of your time. Here's the link so you know to stay away from it:

This time from IndieGala, it's not some garbage freebie, but a couple good sales:

All were originally for the Xbox 360. Some work on the Xbox One via backwards compatibility. Some also work on the Xbox Series via backwards compatibility. None work on the original Xbox or on PCs.
-
Ikaruga is a vertical shmup, originally for arcades and the Sega Dreamcast for one to two players (first player flies the Ikaruga, second player flies the Ginkei, but they are identical except visually). Enemies can be either white (with blue glow) or black (with red glow), and you can swap your ship between colors. Enemies take double damage from the opposite color. You instantly die if hit by the opposite color, but are unharmed and absorb bullets of the same color, which you can release in the form of a burst of homing shots. If you care about score, make sure to shoot groups of three enemies that share a color. There's a speedrun if you'd like to see more.
-
Crackdown is an open-world action adventure for one to two players. You are an Agent of the Agency, the last law-enforcement agency in the City. It's been taken over by three gangs, and you must dismantle them first by killing their footmen, then their henchmen, and then the head of the gang. Each kill earns you XP based on the method you used to perform the kill (agility, melee, ranged, explosives, driving), and XP can also be earned by finding secrets, traveling to high locations, participating in jumping puzzles, and participating in street races. Reaching specific XP thresholds (four per stat) greatly increases your abilities. There's a speedrun if you'd like to see more.
-
Crackdown 2 is more of the same, but with a worse story and far less competently executed. I'd show a speedrun, but apparently there are none that don't rely on new game plus.
-
Stacking is an adventure game for one player. You are a Matryoshka doll. Getting inside other dolls allows you to control them, changing your identity and allowing you to solve puzzles. It's presented in a turn-of-the-1900's timeframe, and starts out (at least) in a train station; I didn't get nearly as far in it as the other three games here I know about. There's a speedrun if you'd like to see more.
I haven't played any of the other games before.
-
-
@TwelveBaud I had played Ikaruga on Dreamcast back in the day, and have a disk copy of Crackdown. I think I'm the only person in the world who bought and played the actual game rather than the Halo 3 beta.
Interestingly enough, although I have an Xbox 360 registered on my account, none of the games would even let me try to install on it. Maybe because it's been offline for years, or the digital download copies only work on backwards compatibility mode or something.
-
@hungrier You can only remote install on a 360 from the Xbox Marketplace website, not from the Windows Store website. I think purchases carry over, but I'm not sure.
-
@TwelveBaud It would be pretty on-brand for a Microsoft product to have multiple different, incompatible versions of the same operation available at once
