I don't think any of the disaffected regulars would do that. At least I can't think of anyone.
I could name a couple.

Another meta topic flooded by... everything. Tommorow, Alex be like

That's why I registered with temporary email. Back when registering with temporary email was still allowed (Ben's done a very good job here!). I was lucky that Ben was kind enough to reset my password after a mail coming from an unrelated (and also temporary) address, or I'd lose the account when we moved to NodeBB!
I created my boomzillawtf gmail account when the discodevs showed up and switched my account over to that.
-
@boomzilla wait what? Why did they do it?

Uh...I think you misunderstand. When we switched to discourse @end and whoever were admins. I made my boomzillawtf email account and changed my TDWTF account to use that new email instead of my personal email account.

Out of curiosity, what language did you play in, and what do you think of text/dubbing quality? AFAIK it only sounds good in German and Polish.
I played it as well, but to be honest, I remember more of the later iterations (there's also a strong memory of being killed by boars in the beginning a lot). I don't think I ever fully finished any of them, though.

@error dream? Hmm, maybe I shouldn't move to USA after all...

You know there was a full video of the Simpsons "cut every corner" song two down the list from what you posted, right?

Oh, okay. I totally misread what "and" connects to.

It's too bad because old Simpsons was so brilliant. I also like the Stonecutters song and the Canyonero ad. But there are just so many great numbers over the first decade.

Not so sure. "Security by Obscurity" is not totally useless. As it is, it would pretty much have to be a very determined inside job to dox someone with it. If outsiders don't know about it, it just ain't gonna happen.

I could, but I'm sensing sarcasm. Would you like me to delete was I posted?

@error I don't know if you've noticed, but I don't respond well or recognize subtlety. Feel free to club me over the head with stuff. It sinks in better that way.

I would humbly request that the thoughts of people who unfortunately left this forum over the years should be taken into account, if possible
I want to, but I don't know who they are or, most importantly, what their thoughts are. I'd definitely appreciate if anyone would reach out to people who left, and encourage them to contact me to share their thoughts.

@apapadimoulis I passed this on to the Steam group. There's a Discord out there somewhere, too, and an IRC channel... and a Slack.
-
@apapadimoulis, I just relayed it to discord.
-
@error IRC? What else, a Usenet group?

Steam? Wow, interesting. I knew about Discord. Unless Remy created and manages those, then I think they're all "unofficial" communities? Anyways, that's great. I'm very keen on learning why the folks there don't hang out here... directly from those folks.
-

Indeed.
Honestly forgot about the Steam group. It's quieter than everything else.
Edit: Made an invite to any curious.
-
@Tsaukpaetra Yeah, I'm a member of the Steam group, but I don't think I've ever seen any activity in it.
-
@loopback0 said in Update: the new admin/moderation team and changes discussions will begin soon:
@dfdub Joining the group requires approval, although I'm not sure if there whether every request gets approved regardless or if there are some basic standards.
I agree though - there certainly should be standards for accessing it if there aren't already.
Sorry if this has been addressed earlier (I spent most of today playing D&D with friends and fell behind), but TL3 at least used to have some minimal requirements of presence on the forum (time since account created, posting activity, etc.) or someone who knew you IRL needed to vouch for you. If none of the staff had any idea who you were, you're application was either ignored or rejected.
That may have changed during my hiatus, but that's what I remember from my mod days.
-

@Tsaukpaetra Yeah, I'm a member of the Steam group, but I don't think I've ever seen any activity in it.
I've seen Blakeyrat chatting there many times.
-
@error Ah, maybe the reason I never see any activity is because I never actually go there. And I don't get any sort of notifications.
-

Several of them have been quite vocal about it offsite. Ben Lubar was echoing a lot of what I've heard when the banning incident happened, and I feel like he was probably being encouraged by one or more of them.

Crap, I'd forgotten about the IRC. IIRC, it was started as replacement for the discourse chat - or maybe it became more popular because of it. I think it was primarily because chats in sucked.

@HardwareGeek oh. I never thought of that. I think the real solution is to bother @julianlam for a real spoiler functionality.
I haven't thought this through all the way but an nsfw image plugin could look something like this: Flag your image somehow in the source, output
<img data-not-src="http://notworksafe.biz/filthy.jpg" class="nsfw" />
to the baked post. The nsfw class would show some placeholder image and use jquery magic to set the src when cilcked.

megathreads
Isn't this a lot to do with and interfacing ... why would I create a new, free thread or even go looking for an old specific one while there is an active megathread sitting in unread?
-
@error said in Update: the new admin/moderation team and changes discussions will begin soon:

With.. like.. 5 posts

Can't do much about malicious actors,
At least the vetting process keeps out drive-by ones.
At a different forum I hang out mods manually check topics in the for sale part so that only regulars ( >25 posts) can sell their stuff. It's the same idea ... you limit the influx a bit to get a healthier outcome. In that case: keep the sales area safer then facebook and don't let the sales corner take over all content

I always thought these megathreads were created to break Discourse and piss off @end, who liked to have unrelated discussions in separate threads.

Eh, one was to exacerbate a discovered issue and poke fun at gamification. Others... well, maybe not as much. Megathreads don't always start out that way...
-
@Tsaukpaetra Status was definitely a joke, at first.
It rapidly grew into probably the most popular thread on the forum

Blakeyrat continually moans about that.
He moans that you've been paid
That I "apparently don't do jack" and get paid, yes.
And no, that's not a direct quote.
What? I was of the impression that you do 3-4 jobs for the price of one?

What was he banned for? Looking at his most recent posts (2015), they don't seem that bad. Wanting to keep things organized seems like the opposite of what you would ban someone for.

Look for the discopocalypse thread.
He was getting extremely frustrated that the denizens reported bugs non-stop, which resulted in closing/deleting reports and not fixing, which resulted in the harsh complaints and insults you’d expect from this community for:doing_it_wrong:
. He couldn’t take that anymore, self-banned himself here and banned everyone of us1 on meta.d.1 Not me, personally. Due to being so terrible I couldn’t even log in I managed the questionable feat of being banned by Ben but not by .
