We're being subjected to unprecedented restrictive measures (since the war, that I know of). All through Italy:
- schools and universities are closed
- gyms are closed
- all public events have been cancelled
- bars and restaurants must close after 6pm (many are just shutting because there's no point)
- all of the businesses that stay open must enforce a 1m-radius separation between patrons (some are just shutting down because there is no easy way to do so)
In the Lombardy region, which is the hardest hit, additional measures will be enforced. For instance, free movement has been curtailed and nobody is to enter or exit the region without justification. The measure was leaked a few hours by the local shithead party (and the worse papers) before being officially announced, which caused other shitheads to board the last outgoing trains from Lombardy. In the meantime we've gone from most people minimising the issue ("it's just like the flu", politicians saying "Italy can't stop because of a few over 75s", "keep on going as normal", "think of the economy!" - one politician saying so has since been diagnosed with the virus, lol) to full-on panic. People are shitting their pants over the virus to the point that many will cross the road if they see somebody blowing their nose, like. Of course face masks and hand sanitiser are perennially sold out. It's going to be a rocky ride.

I'm not looking forward to whatever we end up doing here. I kind of hope they tell us all to work from home, but for now it's still nothing at all.

We're at probably 150% capacity on work as is (as in we have too much work for our current staffing level). Naturally, the corporate guys want us to all quit doing stuff that makes money, and instead spend a few weeks doing planning/protocol/documentation stuff on how we're going to survive the coronavirus.

@Benjamin-Hall I'm in a low-risk area as of today. My town (50k population) has had no cases so far, and in the whole region the number of cases is in the tens. But of course the virus will sooner or later spread over here too. I'm not worried about myself, but many older people or people with a weaker immune system should probably be. I'll probably go without pay or on reduced pay for a couple of weeks at least, maybe a month or two (I doubt I can work from home much, most people paid for a regular course and probably will opt out of the online lessons), but it's not a big issue for me, fortunately. I just hope that landlords, banks etc. will be lenient wrt payments.

It's not a total lockdown. If you walk around my town you might not realise there is one in place. The shops are not closed. The emergency measures call for closures of certain businesses (namely, gyms, swimming pools, schools, etc.), restaurants and bars can stay open until 6pm, people can leave their homes (but cannot travel beyond city borders unless they state work reasons or emergency). Supermarkets and shopping centres are open except at the weekend. Grocery stores are exempt from the mandated closures. It's not like in Wuhan for instance. Then again, this is the first day so maybe it still has to kick in (also in the popular consciousness). You have to remember that there are only 30 confirmed cases or so in my whole region (which is around 4m population). That number will probably rise sharply in the coming days, but it's still under control.

Gloves protect and comfort hands against cold or heat, damage by friction, abrasion or chemicals, and disease; or in turn to provide a guard for what a bare hand should not touch.

@Gąska I think that would be more effective if you put on a condom rather than a glove (see picture somewhere else of someone putting a condom on their finger to use a touchscreen).
It doesn't matter whether it works as a direct physical barrier to virus transmission, doing this will at the very least guarantee that you won't have any direct contact with anyone!

I'd say you have a point. However. I don't remember the last time I'd touched my face with a glove; I always take them off first.
Probably because I usually put on gloves when I'm touching things that I don't want on my hands or face. Like, say, my car. Or acetone. And I use leather gloves, so I would not want to manipulate my face with those anyway.

), but I wouldn't be too worried about skin contact in the first place. Nail polish remover is acetone, so skin contact is pretty common (in general, not for me, although somewhere I have a pint (?) can of it to use as a solvent for cyanoacrylate and other adhesives, if it hasn't all evaporated since the last time I used it) and safe.

OK, alternative idea: long thick gloves that you wear all the time. Whenever you want to switch tasks, you put your hands in a special device that sprays them with some special acid that dissolves everything but that specific material, then a strong water spray to clean that up. Perfectly disinfected.
Just don't accidentally put your bare hands in there...

Here in Argentina the government has once again proven its ineptitude by doing nothing at all to check anyone arriving into the country if they have fever. In fact, to stop the virus they did the only thing our government knows to do... ask people to sign a sworn declaration saying that they do not have the virus. Which did fuck all to stop the virus arriving. And I can't wait for chaos to ensue since our public hospitals, like everything ran by our government, are a disaster.
Me and my family were on vacation in USA and we arrived back home on Feb 25th. Yesterday my mom got sore throat and cough (but no fever), so thinking it might be coronavirus I told her to call a doctor. Doctor said that too much time happened since we got back, and that if she had coronavirus she wouldn't be able to get out of bed. Hopefully it's just a flu...
