@error I once saw a "proof" with the same conclusion. The trick was hidden by the fact that it used abstract, arbitrary variables and relied on a trigonometric identity to cause a division by zero.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to find it again.

@Zecc I used to do a "magic trick" back in school where you asked someone to pick a number without telling you what it is, then do a whole bunch of mathematical operations on it, and in the end you tell them what number they ended with. The "trick" was to do something that factored out their original number so it didn't matter, and most students never caught on.
This one allows a calculator.
- Take a three-digit number
- Repeat it (so if your number was 123, it becomes 123123)
- Divide by 7
- Divide by 11
- Divide by 13
- You have your original number back.

I've seen something similar to prove that
1=2
... The trick being that you first assign them to variables and then one line of your proof is non-obviously equivalent to0=0
, and after that point, you can prove anything.I recall one that started with
a=b
and in the second-to-last step divided byb²-ab

Let's suppose a = b
- a = b
- a² = ab
- 2a² - 2ab = a² - ab [ +a² - 2ab]
- 2(a² - ab) = (a² - ab)
- 2 = 1

- Now the question is, did the ‘reviewer’ get (or make) the joke and was just trolling or was he that blind?
- The “Arabian Nights” comment would have been more appropriate on Spain, but it was cut off.

It can be noted that the equation is specifically crafted for the joke, because it is already as simple as it can be and if the question means solve for x or solve for n, it should say so.

@dkf And the Land of Ice got an extra round of rotation compared to the rest. But why would elves want to live way past the treeline?

@Tsaukpaetra So I live at the retarded inland sea. Maybe can call it the Gulf of Retardia. And I have a friend who is apparently an elf now.

@Tsaukpaetra That "inland sea" has a purpose. When the people living there get sufficiently advanced, they can build a few dams and drain it for massive land increases.

@acrow Ah. I kept thinking something was super-familiar about it but I just couldn't figure out why.

It wasn't until "Looks like a fucking boot" that I recognized what's going on.

I couldn't see the text on my display, just the landforms.
Still, I saw that part and thought "That looks like someone stuck Italy on the side of the map" and I still didn't get it. I must need more coffee.
