Oh, and because of the dumpster fire that resulted in attempting to replace a piece of spinning rust with mentioned flash drives....
At the moment it's.... stable. I moved the flash drives to USB 2.0 ports and even now they occasionally stop responding if I'm doing an active scrub.
What the shit.

Yes. It is.
No, that's not a joke, unfortunately. Unless it's an industrial drive with an actually tested firmware, they're perfectly capable of destroying themselves through read-log write conflict, or a misguided attempt at deferred write leveling, or some other idiocy none of us could ever even think of.
You might find these enlightening. They're on SD cards, but all of it (and then some) applies to USB drives:

It's wrong for general equivalence relationships.
Depends on how you define the rules for alt-ness, obviously, but come to think of it the rules I had in mind don't make too much sense. So yeah, ignore what I've said before.

Just had a package delivered from Amazon. Two things:
- I didn't think they did Sunday deliveries. TIL.
- That was the softest knock I've ever heard. I only knew it had been delivered because I watched him walk to the door from my kitchen window. Of course he just left it there, so no harm done, but man. Do more than just brush the door with one knuckle next time! Especially when I've got a functioning doorbell.

I'm surprised you didn't learn about it by the thump of the package as it hit your door after being thrown from just outside a car.

At 7:15, I've had an interesting imaginary conversation with the guy in video.
: Secondly, some systems DO use 63-bit numbers!
: Hm... Oh, he must mean like a special flag bit that's used for GC or other shenanigans. Like in OCaml. Integers only go up to 4.6 quintillion there.
: Someone sent me a link to an article about pros and cons of using 63-bit ints. When I was reading it, I realized it was on the Jane Street blog.
: Jane Street? The company that hires the most OCaml programmers in the world and has developed an alternative standard library that's now more popular than the actual OCaml standard library? What a coincidence...
: Regular viewers will know that Jane Street is the principal sponsor of this channel. What are the odds!

More devices should do this sort of thing, or at least have it configurable. I always thought that my tablet missed a trick by not re-orienting its left and right speakers based on the tablet position

In my area they use a courier service, and while I've heard about it being hit-or-miss if you're not at home, I've never had any trouble* and it's nice to be able to get (free with Prime) next-day delivery on the weekend.
* One time I thought my package had been porch-pirated but it turns out that it was just so light-weight that the large envelope blew into the alley next to my house.

That reminds me of a classic Java web service error that was effectively
can't cast class foo.Bar to class foo.Bar
(I forget the exact names). The actual error was something else entirely (with classes with the same name being loaded from several places) but the message was utterly mystifying the first time you saw it.You probably need to turn on very high levels of debugging to figure this problem out.

given i'm trying to write a unit test to test something without mocking things for easier debugging of a service without actually starting the service up...... i just moved the test class to a different project that works..... NFC why it works in this other test project and not in the other..... but..... whatever i guess.

Let me tell you about my current desktop, that doesn't boot properly without a display connected, and the monitor that doesn't like connecting to computers through DisplayPort if they're not already connected.
Yes, I had to plug in a sacrifice device into the HDMI port so I could cleverly switch to DisplayPort at the opportune time during boot, don't you need to do that with your computer? I just assumed that was normal...
-
@Tsaukpaetra Wouldn't it be simpler just to keep the HDMI display?
