Status from x-mas: So, my 2nd youngest brother has this girlfriend who has a 4-year old son (not his, though).
And the kid is a brat, plain and simple.
Cannot sit still for more than a nanosecond, has to be the center of attention all the time, is disrespectful to everyone and similar stuff.
He can be charming and he's not stupid, but from my point of view (and that of my parents/brothers/other relatives) lacks proper nurturing. One example from two days ago would exemplify that. I was sitting on the couch when the little one sidled up next to me, eating a cherry tomato (and making a proper mess of it). Of course I watched him like a hawk because I know that four-year olds don't have the best judgment of where to put their hands after having eaten something messy.
After finally haven eaten whole of the tomato, he looks at me sideways - and makes a move to wipe his hands on the front of my pullover. Y'know, not the absent-minded "Let's take the next thing available" wipe but a full-on "I know what I'm doing and I find it very funny!" move.Next thing he knows is that his wrist is caught in a vise-like grip - not so hard it's painful but hard enough so he can't move one millimeter. Cue my best teacher-caught-you-doing-a-very-dumb-thing-indeed voice (you know, the one where it drops an octave) and telling him in no uncertain terms that behaviour like that will not be tolerated, that he's to go and wash his hands properly right now and if we have understood each other?
He promptly breaks out in tears. But he also makes a beeline to the sink where he washes his hands.
From what I can see (the above is just one example), the little guy needs more lessons like that from his parents - they're letting him get away with way too much. I've yet to see either of them actually talk sternly to the kid (y'know, one of those talks where there are actual consequences for further misbehaviour). Otherwise he'll be one of those kids at school which every teacher dreads.
And my brother proposed to her x-mas eve. The contrast between that proposal and the one of my youngest brother one year ago is somewhat stark - with my youngest brother the attitude was more of a "Finally, about time!" whereas this time the mood is more of a "We'll give them about even odds."
Hoo boy.

something we can achieve with a hammer and just enough force?
No, that tends to break the clock entirely, studies show.
I fail to see the problem with that...

@Rhywden My brother got a new shrew that had a kid from a prior relationship. Her little angel is an utter shithead that bullies my brothers youngest relentlessly, and he fought back to begin with. But this new bitch of his punished my brothers kid and not her own every god damned time.
My brother doesn't do his job protecting his kids from this piece of shit. And she lies and tries to play people against each other constantly. I really don't like her. At all.

Today’s episode of is going to get himself killed:
Just caused a short circuit with the voltage indicator. That thing was blank instead of black just ten minutes ago. Thank Chuck for circuit breakers.
Guess I know there’s voltage on the line now.Not actually what I wanted to test. Only 2 of 4 bulbs in this lamp work, so I wanted to see if there’s voltage on the socket. Didn’t detect any, so to check if I’m doing it right I tried one of the sockets that do work. Bang!

Well, that's one bit in her favour: She does realize that she's setting herself up for a bit of a problem later on (and my brother is merely following her lead - not too surprising given that he's not the biological father).
Maybe she'll manage to turn this around.

Are you sure that's not the drive firmware telling you that it is running out of its reserve? SSDs work very different internally to HDDs; in particular they tend to look great until just before they become unwritable, due to the way problems are transparently mapped out.

Says no sectors have been reallocated, but 4 are uncorrectable (and yet, none are pending reallocation).

SSDs work very different internally to HDDs; in particular they tend to look great until just before they become unwritable, due to the way problems are transparently mapped out.
It's not an SSD.

@Tsaukpaetra Ah. In that case they're probably just a manufacturing defect where the disk surface isn't up to spec. Don't use those sectors. The firmware knows there is a problem there and is likely right...

I have no fucking clue how to do that outside the drive's firmware remapping them (as in theory it should be doing).
And since the drive is in a ZFS pool it's not like I can create an arbitraryfile is a hole don't delete me.dat
covering the relevant sectors and stash it somewhere...

An actual job posting sent to me yesterday: "Star Sales Engineer Software Industry Experience Unique BigData Cloud"
Right after I watched that episode of DS9 where everybody started saying random words because some virus messed up their brains.

He's talking about Mastodon so irregardless the answer to his question is almost certainly "No".

I'm bad at words; please assume anything I tell you that doesn't make sense isn't what I meant to write and ask for clarification.
I tried asking for clarification (and English isn't my first language), but no success.

He's asking if we want the s distributed across the Internet. The answer, of course, is that they already are.

Status: I finally got the pans and utensils from Christmas morning breakfast washed. (I'm not exactly a clean-freak.) Of course, I immediately got one of them dirty again for tonight's dinner.
Also status: I love frozen skillet dinners where, after cooking at the recommended temperature for 1.5x the recommended time, it's still not even thawed, and after 2x the time, it's hot but the veggies are still basically raw.

TomorrowLater today's status: laughing at anyone still celebrating the recent coming of a new yearIf only it were demarcated by some definitive point of Earth's tropical cycle, so we could all agree on a particular time. But instead we get this unholy hybrid of the time approximately nine solar days after the solstice which makes no damn sense.
