@anonymous234 Now I've got to explain to my coworkers what I'm laughing about. Thanks.

In other news today: Tesla's long-awaited (by Tesla fans at least) pickup truck turns out to look like PS1 Hagrid
https://www.caranddriver.com/tesla/pickup-truckIf you have to make some compromises at all, like in off-road capability¹, the least you can ask is to have an advantage over conventional trucks in crushing other lesser-armored vehicles.
¹ Seriously though, how many percent of truck drivers ever go more "off road" than that farm track that goes around the cops waiting on the side of the road with their breathalyzer?

you know the local cops have started to put checkpoints on both the main road and the farm track....
The first night they did that they had more people hauled into their drunk tank to sober up than they had room for, so they started trowing them (well, pushing gently) into an old conference room and just posted a guard at the door.
Reportedly the wives, husbands, girlfriends, and boyfriends that got calls to pick up their partners from the drunk tank were less than pleased and more than a few told them that they could spend the night there and hail a cab in the morning to get home.
Sauce, a friend wot I know who <strike>sleeps under the chief of police's deck</strike> works for city maintenance which shares a building with the police department.

Semi-serious question: do the amendment (and ruling here) applies to non-US citizen (when they are under US jurisdiction, of course -- I'm typically thinking of someone travelling to the US)?
At first glance I'd say they do since the wording doesn't mention citizenship ("no person...") and that the Constitution regulates how US institutions (law enforcement in this case) work, so that the ruling applies to all US (domestic) enforcement agencies, independently of who they are investigating, but I have no real idea.
Of course if you're a foreigner in the US and refuse give your password, you will likely get thrown out of the US (at least) for one reason or another (plus the ruling currently looks to be at a single state (Pennsylvania) level only), but I'm still curious?
-
@remi You are correct that this applies to all persons, regardless of citizenship. However, this is a ruling from a state court. It applies only in Pennsylvania, and it can be overturned by a Federal court.

Google is pissing me off, and I'm not alone
-
@TimeBandit I recently found the setting in the YouTube app which disabled that shit.
-
@Rhywden which one?
Because I'm close to sending @Polygeekery to YouTube's headquarters
-
@TimeBandit Ergh, I may have misremembered things. But I think it fixed it anyway - you have to go to the YouTube website, go to Settings (by clicking on your profile picture), choose "Notifications" on the left, then disable "General product updates" and also "Your YouTube channel updates" for good measure. Yes, it says "Email notifications" but since then I've not seen those "Try Premium" popups anymore.
-
At least for the web version, those settings do not disable the premium pop-up as I have had those settings disabled for some time and still get that damn annoying pop-up. Even better, they reversed the buttons from their "are you still there" pop-up. So if you are on auto-pilot clearing notifications, you click the upgrade button.

@hungrier Of course, Google responds to these findings in a reasonable, adult and professional manner.
Just kidding, they're blaming the developers:
-
@hungrier Yes, because making things more difficult for developers and then laying blame for logical sub-optimal results on those same developers will surely help to make your platform a raging success.

Destiny 2 runs at 4k on PS4 and Xbone with no problem
Destiny 2 runs at 1080p on medium settings on StadiaObviously the developer's fault

Good luck with that, my dude.

a man who says a 500-pound (227-kilogram) emerald worth $280 million was destroyed at his home
Hmm, the Bahia Emerald weighs 752 pounds (351 kg), so it's at least theoretically possible. Note that it is not a single emerald, but a number of large emerald crystals embedded in the matrix rock. Another source states the largest (single?) emerald ever mined, 1.1 kg, was found in 2018.
Regardless of whether an emerald that big is possible, emerald is a silicate mineral; it's not combustible. It's not going to disappear in a fire, no matter how devastating. Even if it was badly damaged by the heat (some gemstones are actually improved by heat, although emeralds are likely not among them), there would be 500 pounds of something identifiable as having been an emerald left behind.
Also, no insurance would cover anything of that sort of value without a policy specifically written for that item, with appropriate documentation of its existence, description, condition and value, and payment of the rather substantial premium. I would expect the reimbursement to come from the owner's insurance, and then the insurance company would seek to recover that from PG&E if they're shown to be at fault. That the purported owner would file the claim directly with PG&E, without providing documentation for the claim, smells to me very much like a long prison term for a crude attempt at fraud.

The RusMoloko farm’s goal is to strap VR headsets to cows that display a simulated summer field, tricking the animals into thinking it’s a different season.
And, to answer the burning question on everyone's mind:
This means that the cows are not beta testers for Valve’s upcoming VR Half-Life game, Alyx.
