Bethesda dealing with Fallout

@Benjamin-Hall Give me the original TSW any day. The best damned RPG game ever made, MMO or single player, although I know I'm in a minority with that opinion.

FWIW: this is a helmet that was sold at GameStops, not the one from the Fallout 76 Power Armor Edition.

Guess that's half me not reading too closely and half the reporting talking about Fallout 76 around this recall notice.

@pie_flavor At this point, you have to suspect that they're trying to kill the remaining player base on purpose. Nobody can be this incompetent, right? Right?

@pie_flavor in addition to your unlimited stash box /dev/nulling your stash, the private servers also aren't actually private:

Or see how hard they can squeeze a lemon.

“There are a few issues cropping up here. Fallout 1st players are finding that a “newly created” world they might be heading into is not actually new at all. Players are reporting dead NPCs and looted areas when they get there, implying that these are not actually new instances, but instead re-used old instances masquerading as brand new private worlds.
-
@loopback0 "What part of post-apocalyptic is not clear? Those dead NPCs are just for extra realism!"

The video has a shitty clickbait title and at 16:25 it's roughly 11 and a half minutes too long, so here's a TL;DW: Someone who still plays the game for some insane reason was even spending time to make tools for it. Not ingame mods, but an interactive map on a website and some other stuff. This person was datamining game and in the process also finding some bugs and exploits and reporting them. So the person found some exploit, tested it to make sure it works, and told Bethesda about it - and got permabanned for exploiting.
Being the kind of person who willingly plays Fallout 76, this guy also paid for the new subscription thing, so he asked for a refund, and didn't get it because he already spent some of the microtransaction points you get with the subscription. Even though he can't access any of that due to being banned. Hilariously the guy also claims to have spent hundreds of dollars on microtransactions and to have six accounts, so I don't feel bad for him at all, but the shit Bethesda is pulling has me in awe.
This game makes the SW: ToR debacle look like it was handled well.
Oh and apparently, parts of the game are filled with hackers that kill you from across the map that Bethesda does nothing about, and newly released free content takes place in those parts of the game, so to get the new stuff you have to endure this. I'm sure this is actually appealing to many of the remaining players because why else would you still play this if you're not a masochist?
Now who's excited for the next Product? Err, I mean, Elder Scrolls 6?
-
@blek said in Bethesda dealing with Fallout:
and told Bethesda about it
I'm assuming you're talking about the Map 76 guy. From the horse's mouth, he actually didn't tell Bethesda about the exploit he found.
Full Post on Reddit but the quote in question:
By the time I determined [the exploit] used basically the same method I discovered the night before, I came to find out that it had already been reported by someone else in our group. Should I have also reported it? I mean, in hind sight, sure, just so I have a record that I did, but I figured it wouldn't be necessary, and I could just explain it is me if it comes up. someone already reported it, and my work was done.
So, he's partially in the wrong there. He also did get a refund for Fallout 1st but confirmed they're making the refund policy to be an exception, not the norm.
And then there's this, re-damning Bethesda, seemingly newly posted on the Map 76 site (emphasis mine):
Bethesda has reached out to me and others in our datamining group to open a dialog via a phone call, and then they banned all of my accounts using the same base email address, including my main.

As long as it is still 100% single player it should be fine. Well, typical Bethesda fine at least meaning bugs galore but not a total shitfest.

Bethesda was treating players like bitches for ages. Morrowind was already lazy half-assed attempt at a game, and this was in 2002. Everything went downhill from there.

It'll have the same shit "Creation Club" microtransaction system like Skyrim SE and Fallout 4 does though, meaning constant updates (and constantly breaking mods) for each new Creation Club item that is likely just a lower quality version of a free mod.

They'll ban them for writing unauthorized mods.
Then sell those mods.

@Vixen I considered adding a footnote indicating it was 10% after 100000 units, or that all submissions to the program are the property of bethesda, but that didn't fit the tone of the marketing line at all.

It's not. It's a terrific toy. Not all toys are games, but most (if not all; especially video-) games can be toys. These terms are used interchangeably, but I'd say most people think it's a great way to escape in a fantasy world, often on an unregulated masturbatory power trip.

They, until fallout 76 had a detailed story, and a okay to decent (depending on the game) single player experience. and for you only pay once..... yeah they got away with a fair bit because of their previous games and fanbase, but when it turned full micro transaction, multiplayer with rampant and unchecked hackers AND bugs AND people being perma banned for accidentally finding glitches AND for being glitched by hackers AND.... well you get the idea......... that's another thing entirely.
I could go on but.... If you like skyrim, neat! if you love oblivion, coolarino! if you drool for some fallout 4, go for it..... if you orgasm in pure fangirl delight for Fallout 76...... Come here.... it'll be okay... We'll get you deprogramed in no time.

Yeah, that's what I don't get. It's a terrible toy. Interface is so bad, it's offensive. Story is on kids book level, at best. Graphics are ugly. Fight mechanics suck. And the fabled 'open world' is artificial, fake and boring. Oh yeah, plus the autoleveling idiocy.
I was so disgusted and bored I didn't finish it.

I guess in Elder Scrolls I wasn't looking for a story, I was looking for a fantasy sandbox where I could make up my own story.

Fair enough. There are other games I play that way, with lots of mods that the publisher wouldn't approve of.
