Stack Exchange experiences Stack Meltdown, by enforcing preferred pronouns in site-wide communications

Context: StackExchange(SE) has a known history of performing Twitter-based PR-oriented management (and a known history of pulling off shenanigans and being shitty to users, which is too long for this post). Back in July someone someone complained to SE management on twitter about their edit changing pronouns to a politically correct one got rejected, and very quickly the company bypasses all procedures to "rectify" it.
Then, they started cooking up a new Code of Conduct(CoC) which mandates users to communicate with each other using preferred pronouns. ? Not even tumblr has managed to done this, and SE thinks they can possibly make it work? In any case, one of the nicest community mods around the site has raised concerns about the issue, and SE reacted by, well, removing her from the position without any notice, or proper response:
https://medium.com/@cellio/dear-stack-overflow-we-need-to-talk-13bf3f90204f
And now the SE commuity really can't endure the shittiness of SE management anymore, hence many mods begin to resign in protest. Some sites have no mods at all as a result. Meanwhile, the SE company itself made almost no responses except a few canned responses. like 1 2 3. Oh, and a news article.
Unfortunately, this is not going to affect the biggest rep whore source known as RepWhoreOverflow, so it's not going to make a dent (and SE did have managed to retroactively change all licensing to existing answers and comments from CC-BY-SA 3.0 to CC-BY-SA 4.0 in the first place), but the SE community is finally doing what they should've done a long time ago, so

People are getting angry that The Register got more of a response out of the top brass in that article than could be found on the site itself, when you would think that the job of those people is managing the site...

StackExchange is full of COCs. Who'd've thought.

Didn't the Jeff create SE?

I didn't know there was such a large fan base for that game.

Yes, and he quit to form Discourse.

@Vixen Unfortunately, that doesn't appear to be the case here. The code is such a powerful rule that the event that sparked this entire mess occurred when they demodded someone on suspicion that they were likely to break, at some future point, a rule from the still-unreleased Code of Conduct. Which was received by the community about as well as you'd expect.

Next version of The Codeβ’ they're going to force everyone to install an app and a webcam to make sure that you smile when you post - that will surely solve the negativity problem. /sarcasm
EDIT: Better make sure that your avatar doesn't look too grumpy or they'll ban you now.

I saw some speculation that it's to do with needing to finally be profitable, so they're focusing on things that will have mass appeal.
According to the fired mod, a staff member came on a moderator chat room to share the proposed new COC, she asked for clarification on the basis that she prefers to not use pronouns when possible, and her reading of the code was that they would have to proactively use them, and received basically no response before finding out she wasn't a mod any more when she received some badges that mods are ineligible for.
So at least the badges were useful

@Tsaukpaetra Pronouns are horrible. Why would any given hypothetical person want to make use of pronouns when omitting pronouns from that person's speech or writing is always attainable as such a desirable alternative? The writer of this text cannot personally fathom the attraction.

Their definition of mass appeal is really peculiar if they think indulging to political correctness is among one of them.

Is it? If this had gone under the radar instead of blowing up in their faces, the result would have been most people seeing no change at all and less chance of a scathing Medium post about SE moderators being cis normative shitlords

"While we canβt discuss any more specifics, Iβll share that we take our CoC very seriously," Chipps continued. "It was created to foster a community of kindness, collaboration, and mutual respect. We understand that a few other moderators have resigned, and they may or may not have full knowledge of the situation. But we hope all moderators know that we very much value and appreciate their contributions, and above all else, we are committed to creating communities that are welcoming and inclusive."

As someone who brews her iced tea by taking tap water, shoving teabags into it, putting it in the sun for half an hour and then drinking it......
look, I get that, but if you have good quality tea (including not brewing it if it smells bad), keep your big ol'
tiddiesglass tea jar clean, and stay sensible about how you store and drink the stuff.... you shouldn't get into problems.and if you do. it's fecal coliform bacteria, do you have any idea how much of that shit you encounter in your day to day life? all your eating utensils get that bacteria on them, your toothbrush does, anything and everything that isn't made of bleach will eventually have that bacteria on it. it's fine. the worst thing that will happen to you is you get a case of the shits for a day or so. big deal, just stay outside a bunch so when it hit you're already outside and can do as the bears do. then when it wears off come back inside and put your pants back on. No problem.
