Or if your search-foo is really letting you down at the moment, A previous thread from hell.

Search-foo? Maybe if it worked. Searching for "TDEMSYR" here returns 4 results. 3 of them asking what it means and one using it without explanation.

Don't use the built-in search. Ever. Go to Google, type "site:forums.thedailywtf.com" followed by your query.

The first google search result for TDEMSYR points to this thread, so search-fu is indeed really letting me down at the moment.

TDEMSYR ; this thread now explains the acronym, so search-fu seems to be working.

Its front end is written in the worst language I have ever used.
Worse than PHP, worse than Perl. Worse than MUMPS (maybe)

It was a huge mess of a forum where basic functionality was just... broken. Hitting Backspace once while in the post editor would infamously delete an arbitrary number of characters that differed depending on context. There was no sanitization, leading to people building "cute" exploits into posts and signatures. Massive amounts of state were transferred around when trying to post things, making the forum crawlingly slow. And so on.
Put it this way: it was soooooo bad that we switched to Discourse to get away from it!

that is an interesting fact, but does not (directly) answer my question

if it is as bad as they say....
I suspect it is a custom meta language developed to make developing on the platform "easier" but because it wasn't designed by a group of people who actually know how to design languages and think about the limitations, and implications of their decisions....
it probably has things like "there's no real way to check for null. so what you need to do is add the value to a known variable and see if the value actually changed and if it didn't you need to see if dividing a number by your possible null results in an exception because under addition null is zero, but under division it's one."
and if that's ACTUALLY a thing in CS and not me pulling things out of my tailhole..... i need to buy a beer for people who deal with that shit.

From the Wikipedia page mentioning ASP.NET and my not thinking C# is bad, I'm starting to suspect Community Server was written in VB.Net.
-
Telligent introduced its first product, Community Server, in the fall of 2004. Community Server was one of the first integrated community platforms that brought together blogs, photo galleries, wikis, forums, user profiles and more. Community Server was based on the merger of three then-widely used open source ASP.NET projects: the ASP.NET Forums, nGallery photo gallery, and .Text blog engine.
-
I briefly had a signature on CS that replaced the next poster's avatar with a picture of Hitler. That would be hilarious in our NodeBB garage in today's world!

No, but the “sanitization” was implemented on the content-generating client side so it might as well have been useless. And the WYSIWYG-ish editor simply refused to work at all with a modern (for the time) browser, resulting in many people () having to write raw HTML in order to post at all.

VB.Net is fine. If you can write in VB.Net, you can write in C#. C-syntax snobs don't like it, but that's on them.
