Just as it should.

Regarding the French taboos:
-
you certainly can discuss your occupation or wealth, it's not taboo. It's just that money is considered a personal / sensitive subject, so it's a subject you generally avoid (like religion or politics) when discussing with people you don't know very well.

greeting only certain people in the room can indeed be interpreted as a mark of disdain for the others, yeah.

That's something which would be considered rude in Germany as well. You don't need to speak to everyone but you should announce your name to everyone (like: "Hi, I'm Bob!") if there are people you don't know.

@topspin I had one of those once, except instead of small it was a good inch deep.

It took effort, a mini tourniquet and some glue, but the bleeding stopped.

Status: Not liking adulting. Replacing the caulk at the bottom of a shower door sucks. And the smoke detectors are still acting wonky--they test fine but the lights are showing that they're in "hold mode"--that they've been manually disabled. But that's only supposed to last a few minutes at most, and this has been nearly 24 hours. Plus they only went off once for a second and then silenced themselves, and there was no source of smoke anywhere. I've cleaned them, replaced all the batteries, and used the reset procedure on all 4.

Status: Got rid of three plastic bins of books and board games today. Still have tons of books and board games. :(
Filled one plastic bin with floppy disks in their storage boxes. Should probably make a Magnetic Media Enclosed sign.

If you know people interested in retrocomputing, don't throw those floppies away, instead give it to them. They'll be glad you did, since floppies are no longer manufactured, and will be getting rarer and rarer (especially DD disks).

I have an ever-growing Commodore 64/128/+4/16 collection and a similar adventure game collection for all platforms. (The 64 was my computer growing up. :)

Still having difficulty with body temperature regulation; currently in the sweating phase. I think I went 4 hours without pooping, then the next interval was only 1/2 hour. :( No food β only water and a little clear juice β for about 36 hours; oddly unhungry.

status I keep reading people extol the virtues of CSS-in-JS, which, as I understand it uses JS to add and modify inline CSS directly on the HTML tree, basically bypassing any external style sheets. To me, this just sounds like a nightmare. But I guess if your entire HTML document is being generated dynamically in JS, you're already well into that realm. Am I wrong about this being a ?
-
@Benjamin-Hall no, you're not wrong. CSS-in-JS blows because of its dynamicity and because the page can't get partially rendered. There is absolutely no reason to not have a static CSS file.

It's an Apple iFire, you don't update those, just replace the unit outright.

@HardwareGeek And showered, hair combed, and not shaved, quite, but 4 days' growth trimmed enough that my shaver can tackle the rest. I feel almost human again.
And my weight has dropped to less than 80 kg. Woo hoo! Now if I can avoid putting it back on...

status My old dental insurance (I changed companies 6 weeks ago) just called to do a satisfaction survey on my last claim. First time in the 6 years I had them. They seemed very confused when I said I never dealt with claims, my dentist did them. Repeating that several times did get thru. And got me out of the survey!

And the solid food doesn't seem to have done my intestinal function any good. Mostly going right through me, only messier than than when my system had mostly purged itself of undigested residue. Likely another day of missed work tomorrow.

TBH, I find it slightly more user friendly than Corel's whatzit and Libre. Mind you, it's still a turducken that actively fights against all attempts to actually focus on the content rather than the writing. Which is why I write most my stuff in plain text, because I just can't grok that shit. But there are times documentation needs to be prettified somewhat.

LATEX.

@topspin Sure. As all things designed by scientists, it works. But why is it that 40 years after GUI was invented, the most reliable way to actually get shit done still means using what's pretty much a programming language?
Or is it the sad state of my mind, perhaps? School-dropout Facebook-browsing lipstick-munching secretaries with higher than average center of mass right being their only quality () can grok word processors. Me - no.
I mean, to start page numbering from anything different than 1, there's an 11 step tutorial. That's one step short of changing one's entire life! One of the steps is pasting fake text on the next page so that... well, fuck knows why. That's not a tutorial, that's an ugly hack around something that was designed by leprechauns on crack and produced by having eaten too many tacos.

If we don't hear from him again he's been recruited by the Q-Division of SOE (or their US-American equivalent the OPA).
