Some alien shooting game with a stupid name. Looks like a Space Invaders clone, except instead of a spaceship you're a dude running from side to side.

Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and all DLC, which is not only valued in excess of $200 but worth every penny, is currently $6 on Steam.
-
@pie_flavor said in Game Deals Thread:
currently $5.72 on Steam.
Slightly more than that if you literally have none of that:
Still, for six bucks that's not bad. Wonder what it's about?
I'm assuming there's no network-required play?
Edit: oh shit, I just sent everything to be installed remotely. Well, hope it puts it on the hard drive and not the SSD...

@pie_flavor Is that a picture of @Polygeekery on his way to the range?

Strangely enough, it seems my personal data profile on him contains only a corrupted image... Weird, usually there's only a null if I never had one, but.....

@pie_flavor Not only is this sale trying to drum up business for Borderlands 3 (coming later this year), but Gearbox accidentally leaked the existence of a new upcoming Borderlands 2 DLC.
They have since removed all the data from it... but not before SteamDB noticed. It's apparently called Borderlands 2: Commander Lilith & The Fight For Sanctuary with a tentative release date of June 9, 2019.
Edit: Oh hey, Google has the product page for it cached too.
-
@pie_flavor I'm guessing that picture means I can jump straight in at Borderlands 2 and not have any major problems with continuity or anything?
-
@Cursorkeys yup. Though you might find Designated Annoying Sidekick even more annoying.

Is it even coming on Steam?

(absurdly cheery) If I sound happy, that is only because my creator made this my default tone of voice! I am actually quite depressed!
-
@Gąska said in Game Deals Thread:

I don't think that's possible. My main goal in the game is to kill Designated Annoying Sidekick; unfortunately, game mechanics do not allow that.
-
@HardwareGeek you might find this interesting:

-
@Gąska I only have Borderlands 2 and Pre-Sequel, not the original. My son has it, though, so I can play it if I free enough disk space to install it. I really need to declutter E:.
-
@HardwareGeek I wouldn't bother, TBH. I bought it last month or so and played it through and it is a very 'meh' game. Borderlands 2 is better in every way possible.
-
Currently at 80% off. It's been in my radar for a while, and my steam wallet had enough to buy it, so I just impulse-bought it. It's got pretty good reviews.
-
Another indiegala freebie:

I'm so pleased he isn't screaming in my ear over the echo any longer.
Anyway, the new DLC is currently free for anyone with the Handsome Collection:
-
Xbox Game Pass PC has 50% off while it's Beta, and if you're a new subscriber there's 75% off the reduced price for the first month.
In the UK, that's £1 for the first month.

Enter the Gungeon is free on the Epic Store.

Back on the real topic: Toonstruck is free on GOG for the next 47 hours and change.
-
@hungrier Borderlands 3 is coming to Steam, but not until March or April 2020 or so as it's a 6 month Epic Game Store exclusive.

@bjolling I strongly recommend getting this game if you have someone to play it with, such as a significant other.
There is a single player mode where you play with yourself. (alternating between characters)

There is a single player mode where you play with yourself. (alternating between characters)I find it nearly impossible to play in single-player -- For one, I'm not good at most "concentrate on two things at once" type of things. For two, the controls used to be incredibly annoying and I'd constantly place things "off by one".
It's been a while since I've tried the game, I assume the latter may be fixed by now but the former can't be fixed for me.

I'm afraid multiplayer wouldn't be much help for you on later levels :P

True. :P At the same time with another person there's much more communication going on and strategy as to how you split the work.
-
@heterodox sure... up until there's an earthquake and the restaurant splits in half in the way that's totally not in the way you planned.
But it was fun nonetheless.

You obviously don't play with the same person I do. :P
Jokes aside, we do play our best when we communicate best. And our best communication is when we communicate just enough, and not more.

@bjolling It was a fun little story.

https://freebies.indiegala.com/adventures-of-shuggy
Looks like a puzzle platformer with a bunch of features that sound pretty ambitious and I would be surprised if it pulls them off effectively:
- Time travel - Get caught in a time loop and co-operate with your past echoes.
- Rotation - Spin whole levels or interlocking puzzle sections to grab all the gems.
- Seeing double - Utilize multiple Shuggys under the influence of different gravities.
- Teleportation - Use Shuggy's teleporter to solve some tricky conundrums.
- Tied up in knots - Grab the magic rope and swing your way to victory.
-
@hungrier
It's actually does.
-
@hungrier Sounds right up my alley.
There's a direct link to the game. Anyone know if it's just the actual game (might be, it's a Zip file), or if this will require creating an account in their site upon running?
(INB4 "yes")
Update: the Zip contains an MSI setup program. It did not require any kind of account creation and as far as I can tell it only installed the game.

Good old Chronotron. Five bucks says half the time travel puzzles were copied verbatim.
-
@MrL I downloaded it but didn't actually play it. I'll have to see how good it actually is.
-
@hungrier I played a few levels. Worked fine after I changed the controls (I prefer the arrows for 2D arcade games) but wasn't interested enough to play through the whole thing. I got what I paid for.
-
@Zecc said in Game Deals Thread:

It turned out to be less of a puzzle platformer and more of a hard precision platformer.
Now, I enjoy those too; but I feel slightly cheated. I already got my money back.
@Parody said in Game Deals Thread:

Yeah, what's up with that? Usually WASD are used in games where you need your right hand on the mouse.

Re: Adventures of Shuggy
This bloody level:
Spoiler
The level's hint was "Guide the block to help you". Which I could do with those switches on the bottom right corner.
After a ton of time trying to put the block in pixel-perfect position so I could jump from the left side of the screen onto the block and from there onto the platform where the diamonds are, it finally hit me.I had been ignoring the level's title: "Pushover"
I was supposed to use the block to push the diamonds to the ground level.

No, actually. It's the same concept, but the mechanic is a little different. First, it's timed - 30 seconds or so per copy. Second, you don't start from beginning, but continue from where you are. Third (and I think the most important difference), past selves kill you. Many levels are built around avoiding your past selves while backtracking - how hard it is depends on what path you took the first time around.
I like the game. WASD controls weirded me out at first, but got used to it - I'm ambidextrous when it comes to platformers. What I didn't get used to is the controls for horizontal gravity - instead of left/right relative to your feet, it's up/down in absolute directions. The first boss was fun, but 50% easier than I expected. Some levels were serious mind screws. Some required fast, precise platforming. Some levels were both. It's hard to find a game that has both at once nowadays. Though the platforming is a bit finicky - there's very little control of jump height, and the character is very slippery.
Also, this game has some of the best friendly AI I've ever seen. They're actually being helpful! Can you imagine that?
All in all - a good game, absolutely worth its price. Even worth its retail, $5 price.
-
I agree with whatever @Gąska posted above.
I don't think I've seen another game using that rope mechanic either. Pretty good.

Honestly, I prefer it. Probably because I've spend so much time playing Super Mario Galaxy/2.
