Anyone foolish enough to ignore the CDC on this deserves their natural selection pressure…

@dkf to be fair, riding an electric scooter also makes them unlikely to reproduce, but for different reasons.

they cause testicular cancer in California?

@Luhmann everything causes cancer in California.

the game is in guess the kind of cancer

These seem significantly more useful than a scooter. But obviously bigger and bulkier so I doubt they'll be able to get away with the dockless paradigm.
"Gotcha" is a brand name that inspires confidence.

Personally, I'm waiting for electric, dockless monocyles.

I misread that as electric, donkeyless monocycles.
-
They're coming!
“I saw recently where a scooter was out on the highway and was run over by a truck,” Gray said. “We’ve been to places where they are left on the side of the road and they cause a hazard.”
Lime’s representatives tell KETV they want riders to remain aware of where they’re leaving the scooters as they finish their ride. Representatives stress the importance of leaving scooters near curbs for easy pickup, and not in the middle of sidewalks and streets.
-
We don't have scooters here but we have bikes. Though, despite the news article announcing it, there isn't actually anywhere in town you're supposed to park one (Unserviced Area: This area is unserviced by Lime. Please do not leave your vehicle here.)
-
The average e-scooter currently has a life-span of just three months. (...) Yet despite the modest cost of an e-scooter, it takes almost four months, not counting marketing and overhead expenses, for a rental company to break even on its investment.
-
@Zerosquare It takes that long before someone throws it in the local body of water?

On average. They have to be
dropped carelessly across a sidewalkparked near water for that to occur.

I really don't see how they are going to survive when the venture capital dries up, apart from selling everyone's location data.
I bought myself an e-scooter for about 300 murikan doll hairs, it's on the cheapskate side of things, but it hasn't broken down so far, and I use it daily. I don't have to go looking for a ride-sharing scooter that may or may not be anywhere around where I need one, and there is no risk of any leaks of my data from a shitty system developed by the cheapest monkeys the company could find.
My scooter folds, so I can easily take it on trains or shove it under a shelf somewhere when I need to store it.Though I have been thinking about grabbing the ride sharing ones and going home on the train and dumping it near my apartment. If I keep doing that, I'll have made a nice pile of scooters after a while.
-
@mott555 They're here! Now how long until someone gets hurt--
Witnesses told police she was riding the scooter on 31st Avenue near Farnam Street when she drove into a business driveway too fast, began wobbling on the scooter and fell off.
The girl was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center in serious condition.

That's surprisingly difficult question. I'd have to think for some time about serious answer.
First thing that came to my mind was 'countries where I would go for a vacation'. But that's not very precise.

TRWTF is probably riding a scooter in Indianapolis in January.

: Of course, he was actually pulled over because he ran a red light and forced a police officer to slam on the brakes of his cruiser while going through the intersection.

Is that not what they meant with "Indianapolis police have made an intoxicated scooter-riding arrest" ? :confused_trollface:

And you think scooters are bad?
-
@TimeBandit on the bright side we can hope that plenty of people lose their testicles in pogo stick related accidents and are unable to procreate. Also, no self-respecting woman will have sex with someone who bounces around town on a pogo stick. So, on a long enough timeline this problem will take care of itself.
-
@Polygeekery They also look easier to "accidentally" drop into a canal or garbage truck.
-
@loopback0 also easier to fit in a regular trash can.
-
@loopback0 said in Lime scooters:
"accidentally" drop into a canal
Speaking of that, we have a canal that runs through our downtown area. They recently drained it and dredged it out to clean things up. There was lots of sediment from stormwater that had washed in and reduced the depth to the point that we were having issues with water stagnating and/or growing gross looking vegetation.
When they dredged it out there were hundreds of those stupid scooters taken out with the sludge.

@Polygeekery said in Lime scooters:

But then a lot of woman seem to have sex with dumbass.
That's how they're reproducing
-
@Polygeekery said in Lime scooters:
Also, no self-respecting woman
And the women who use a pogo stick are not likely to be part of the self-respecting woman set. (And probably not ones you'd want to see bouncing either)

How to get home if you live in Amsterdam:
- Steal a bicycle
- Pedal home
- Drop the evidence in the canal
- …
- Profit!

That just has to be someone trolling. Also, I can't seem to find the origin, just a bunch of articles talking about them.

They do have a website: https://cangoroo.tech/
edit: Seems expensive. $1 to unlock, $0.3/min. Amazon's got them for 29.99 (on sale from 59.99!)
And I remember trying to use one as a kid. Operative word: trying. And weasels:
Am I insured using Cangoroo or do I need my own insurance?
In most countries, Cangoroo is classified as walking, meaning the vehicle does not have any Motor Third Party Insurance. In the very unlikely event of causing yourself any damage while jumping on the Cangoroo, this should, in most cases, be covered by your own insurance. To be on the safe side, We’ll recommend you to double-check with your specific insurance company (and to always use a helmet :)).

No, they're right. "Disrupting" because brain injuries fuck up smart people.

Smart/shared pogo sticks isn't the result of a mere brain injury it's the result of complete brain removal.
-
Yeah, those are close to me
-
@dcon said in Lime scooters:

My recollection of trying to use one as a kid: I didn't weigh enough to compress the spring. Pogo sticks don't work very well if they are effectively a solid piece of metal. It worked better when I got older and bigger, but amount of fun derived from jumping on a bouncy stick never seemed worth the effort and coordination required.
-

One of those is close to me. Unfortunately. However, I avoid going there for any reason; if they want to injure themselves doing stupid modes of transportation, I'm enthusiastically in favor.

They do have a website: https://cangoroo.tech/
They do seem to be a real company, but I'm wondering if they are going to run into trademark problems. A quick search turned up an insurance company in Canadia named Cangaroo and a company in Maryland with a medical product with the registered trademark of CanGaroo.
But, the injury lawsuits will probably put them out of business before the trademark lawsuits do.

This does hurt me to look at. I personally tend to change Cs to Ks (and sometimes Qs--though my Q usage is often completely gratuitous) and do not like it the other way around.
Hmm, I guess there are things I like only one way.
-
@dcon It's a "viral marketing campaign" from a Swedish advertising company called Odd Company. You can see it among their "projects" on their website that I don't want to link because fuck them.

Electric scooters are still the best thing that happened this decade, by the way. Cities will slowly become scooter-centric instead of car-centric and it will be glorious.
