UK `Tossing Tax` to be a surprise to most of the UK in two weeks...

@Kian and that vulpine banning, even though it was way over any sane line, was still controversial among the regulars.
-
@levicki said in UK `Tossing Tax` to be a surprise to most of the UK in two weeks...:
permaban
Yeah, that's not really how things work around here. Other than spammers, I only know of two people who have been permabanned in the entire history of the forum. Both of them were way over any reasonable line.
One of those was before my time, and I don't know the details. The other was someone who repeatedly spewed malignant arguments throughout the forum after being repeatedly warned to confine them to the category made for that purpose, defied the mods to do anything about it, and when he was suspended, created alt accounts to continue his argument.
Oh, there were a couple of admins who banned themselves to show their contempt for our community when they quit. AFAIK, nobody has ever bothered undoing those bans.
-
@Benjamin-Hall and even then, it was for spam.

You mean like the previous "joke" mentioning my dead grandmother, his own pleasure and cock in the same sentence which I also flagged for moderation?
You're right, that was my mistake. I meant grandmotherS. I don't want to be exclusionary.
Also: what's the place on the forum you go to see which of your own posts have been flagged? I know it was buried in there somewhere.
@levicki said in UK `Tossing Tax` to be a surprise to most of the UK in two weeks...:
Not every culture in the world appreciates such jokes -- for example in Montenegro mentioning someone's mother like that is the worst possible insult for which you can get badly beaten today and, in the not so distant past, you would have been killed.
Oh, so you're resorting to death threats now?

That exists??!?
I've never seen anything like that in the non-administrator areas...
-
@levicki these forums are very lightly moderated, and the moderation mostly consists of nagging people to keep it in the garage, and soon moving the thread there after the limit has been reached.
Just ignore the trolling and you'll probably like it here. If you can't, this place is probably going to come off as a hive of scum and villainy with no redeeming qualities.
The high, almost nonexistent limits actually makes this a pretty decent place to discuss ideas and opinions, given that you're not too sensitive about insults and being called on being an idiot by being called an idiot (or something much more descriptive and less nice).

Even if you can, it's going to come off as a hive of scum and villainy. Because we are a hive of scum and villainy. And we like it that way.

Non-sequitur. The high limit makes it a good place to express whatever ideas and opinions you want to discusss, but there won't necessarily be much discussion when the echo chamber disagrees with you. Hilarious trolling, sure.

@topspin Let's just say we freely dispense more rope to hang yourself (figuratively, in case any Montenegrins are reading).

@topspin Let's just say we freely dispense more rope to hang yourself (figuratively, in case any Montenegrins are reading).
And that is a good thing, as it has lead to some truly epic public breakdowns. Such as that insane project leader from Samsung (which got WTDWTF blocked on the entire Samsung intranet) and yellow boxing-gloves dude.
-
@topspin Well, if you are voicing a dissenting opinion, the demands for decent proof is unusually high. Also the name calling and trolling is a bit higher. Can't say I've been either trolled or name-called particularly hard when I've been outside of the popular opinion around here though. At least not as reee-y as in other places that hold the echo chamber dearly.
Some forum denizens seem to have gotten on the wrong side of other denizens and get hounded no matter what they say though.
-
@JBert I love giving people enough rope to hang themselves. It used to be my favorite tactic when discussing politics back when I still did that.
It's a tactic that works surprisingly well in surprisingly many facets of life.

@Fox and @MasterPlanSoftware (numerous times, @Farmer_Brown was an alt) for those wondering. There may have been others.
@Tunnel_Rat disappeared before he ended up the same way.

@PJH though you could argue that Fox was also banned for spamming. Not so much for FoxBox though.

Yes. But.
"Spammers" in the context of these boards typically refer to those who join for the purposes of shilling whatever it is they're shilling, and rarely last longer than their first post, if they even get that far.
Fox resorted to being a greater nuisance once he was told to stop being annoying. That took the form of spamming.
But that does have a whiff of #NoTrueScotsman about it though...

-
@levicki said in UK `Tossing Tax` to be a surprise to most of the UK in two weeks...:
How about removing the offending post, and giving the offender a verbal warning first time, and a 2 day chill out ban second time, 7 day ban third time and then permaban if they persist?
I see you are new here. That is not how we operate. Also, our mods and admins are lazy bastards. PR rejected.
-
@levicki said in UK `Tossing Tax` to be a surprise to most of the UK in two weeks...:
Point is that such "jokes" don't add anything to the discussion -- they are outright baiting and trolling. Of course, it's your turf so you will do as you please, but I'd hate to have to resort to dropping myself to their level and beating them with experience.
You are welcome to try. I doubt your chances of success are near what you think they are.
