TIL the 15 inch version of MacBook pro in India is 3200 USD or 224000 INR. Fucking insane.
-
@stillwater That's expensive… even by the usual standards of a MacBook Pro.

Status: Today's bug of the day (from a colleague):
jsondoc["x"] = srcObj.x jsondoc["y"] = srcObj.x
Because nobody really needs that y-coordinate to be correct, yes?

Okay that's something I haven't tried yet but am not sure where to get started.
You can get the appropriate apparatus at your local farm-supply store. Though it'll be sized for large herd animals rather than a typical human.

Why is it taking nearly half a minute to delete 112 files?
It's vital, vital I tell you, to ensure that none of those files contain shenanigans by viruses! Gotta scan 'em all!
I love it when IT force-deploys a virus scanner to my CI environment and then builds start failing because the scanner gets a file lock on source files and refuses to let the compiler take a look at them.

IOW, sized for a typical American?

Copy/Paste FTW!

status Had an interview the other day with the lead developer. Thought it went well, except it ended after 20 minutes (scheduled for 60). Guess it did go well - got a followup to chat with the sr eng director next...
-
@dcon interesting. Ending early usually means bad news.

That's why I came away thinking 'huh?' - I did leave out one detail - we where doing a video link 11 time zones apart (early morning for me, dinner time for him)

We have the same mistake again! And it isn't a copy-paste of the other one. Whee…

Yours locks the source files? Windows Smartscreen panics that an unrecognized executable suddenly appeared and needs to keep it sandboxed tor half a minute.

Fun game: whenever @Tsaukpaetra posts about his dogs, imagine it's @Lorne-Kates talking.

For extra fun, have them do the exact same thing, but on your developers' machines. And force a weekly full scan during business hours, which makes everything terribly sluggish. Of course, don't give them local admin rights, otherwise they could find a way to solve the problem.
(I'm so, so glad I quit that job.)

Forgot to report a status last night: Click 'Check for Updates' on my 1803 Win10 machine. OMG! It actually updated to 1809! First machine ever! (all my other ones required the install-a-program-to-update-now-dammit.exe)

Status: Testing UE 4.21.1 in a Vive headset (using SteamVR) for the first time (since we're somewhat stable kinda?) in this upgrade.
we use the fact that BridgeBaseImpl::Present only returns false when VRCompositor is null,
Guess what was
null
when Present returnedtrue
?

@Tsaukpaetra Status: cannot decide between "implication implies equivalence" and "implication is equivalent to equivalence" for describing the problem with the code (or rather, the programmer who wrote it).
-
@dcon could also be pattern lock
-
Status: Why does FreeBSD (Presumably. I'm blaming the OS) need to sync the swap partition on shutdown? The system is going down nothing is going to page fault! Your next step is to halt the processor!
Unless having a dirty swap can break things when remounted?
Still, it shouldn't take an hour to do this one simple task. Hell, creating a fresh swap takes less time!
-
Status: Well, now I can stop using the stupid VARARG macros and use the normal template thing...
For those not in the know, you used to have to use these in order to have variadic argument functions...
-
Status: 12 hour work day (mostly straight through, but also chaperoning a student-run music festival in the evening), plus subsisting on a little bit of <abbr title=I'm lactose intolerant and mildly sensitive to dairy..."">free pizza and a sandwich all day, plus getting home and having to park 3 buildings away because they have the parking spots near my place blocked off for a few days for sewer drainage work...no me gusta.
Secondary status: anyone know if most car stereo head units in the US support non-Latin character-sets? Or where even to look for such information?

Oh? What was #1 before?
-
@Tsaukpaetra Somehow I suspected someone would ask. I'll just say "a news site."
-
I suppose my other Status, which indicates that I do have a life beyond WTDWTF, is that my feet are rather sore from walking on rocks barefoot for a few hours.

Status: pondering if walking on rocks flat-footed would have reduced the sore.

A default one that was always there because the "news site" paid the browser distributor?

Probably not; your AC is lower and you're open to sneak attacks, so I'd expect you to be more sore.
-
@Gąska No, I believe it starts off blank. Either way it's too specific to be a default.

By the way, it since fell back down to fourth place.

You explore the interwebs quite quickly, have a very low list of sites, or change moods and opinions on the fly.
Are you a person?
-
I don't even know why it fell all the way to fourth – I only checked the former (and again current) top one once, with a few more trips back to WTDWTF.

I can't confirm this. [insert markov chain here]

Status: Studying for exam. These are some high quality notes:
Q: Question about AJAX and ASP.NET but I don't remember exactly.
A: Something with "script" I think.

Status: Trying to decide on new screens. Plenty of parameters to pick from. Resolution, refresh rate, response time, size, contrast, adaptive sync, HDR... Making me dizzy.

Last time I did, I went with a 23" 4K Asus. As I remember, it was around 300US back in Dec 2016. Been quite happy with it. (I'm not a gamer)
-
@dcon in 2014 I bought (almost) cheapest 24" I could find - a two FullHD Benq, $150 each. I'm very happy with them too.

HDR
Any idea what this is supposed to do? Because when I turn it on my screen gets quite dark and fuzzy enough that text is hard to read. And Windows helpfully turns it back on all the time at random and I have to find out where it moved to in the 3+ different Control Panels Win10 has.

Like all weekends, I'm at my parents' house. For some reason they invited their nephews, that is, my cousins, two girls aged 5 and 7. One is playing the harmonica and the other is loudly announcing the time every few minutes (she has a brand new digital watch and she wants to show off her knowledge of numbers).
Kids, am I right? So repetitive. Well, the adults are not so better. They have been loudly discussing a phone number for 5 minutes. I called you yesterday, it should be in the call log! But it's not. But I called you yesterday. But your number is not in the call log. How can that be? I called it yesterday. But it's not in the call log.
-
I know exactly what you mean.
Fortunately, I only see my family once every few months.
Unfortunately, wearing noise-cancelling headphones in front of them is considered rude for some reason.
