@Gribnit I'm inclined to agree with you.
Still would've been awesome.
Yeah, that was one of the possible things someone suggested. I'm with @Gribnit in that I wouldn't expect it to be non-destructive. When I've had ground loop/bounce issues it's physically damaged things through latch-up.

Here, take this one
350MΩ (±5%). That's a lot of resistance.
Funny you should make that joke, I'm colourblind to the exact shade they used for one of the values (can't remember which one). Caused huge confusion with an old boss until we both read the colours aloud and realised I was seeing the wrong band not remembering the chart wrong!
It's never caused me problems anywhere else and SMD resistors don't have colour codes luckily :)

Damn. Decided to work from home today, so I will have the computer here over the holidays. Well, good luck getting a hold of me!

Either on my part, or you got something wrong. It's 360 Ω ±5%.

Worse, it's the snowbirds. You'd think northerners would know how to drive, but being old gets in the way...
As an actual note, I don't know why it is. But the snowbirds are central Florida's scapegoat for stupid behavior (along with residents of Pasco county, more popularly known as Florida Man county). They're like Californians who move to Idaho and Utah--blamed for everything that goes wrong.

Is the third band not violet? It looks violet, not brown, to me.

No, I wouldn't. I've read the Driving Antipatterns thread. I don't think anyone, anywhere knows how to drive.

No, that's vegans; most vegetarians are not quite so unreasonable.

Orange, blue, violet. Maybe orange, blue, brown. Not red.
-
@HardwareGeek: according to The GIMP, it's a shade of red. But I think it's actually brown, because the red used for thru-hole resistors is usually brighter and more saturated :
It's definitely not violet. There is no blue in it, and 350 MΩ is very unlikely for a standard resistor like this (it's rare to see anything higher than 22 MΩ).

It would be unusual, to say the least. I still think it looks more violet than brown, but if you checked the RGB values and there's no blue, I'll take your word for it; 350Ω it is. I'm at work on my phone, so checking it myself won't be possible for a few more hours.

@HardwareGeek wouldn't the air itself be less than 350Mohm?

My mouse drivers had to be updated (stupid logitech bugs).
Now my touchpad is back in "working condition", according to asus.
This of course means everything is fucked, and i would like the "broken " state back.
Is that in any way possible ? no.
Fuck asus and their shitty touchpad (drivers).

@Gribnit said in The Official Status Thread:
@HardwareGeek wouldn't the air itself be less than 350Mohm?
That depends on the amount and shape of the air. The resistivity of air is on the order of 1E+16 Ohm-meters; that is, a cross-section of 1 m² and length 1 m would have a resistance of about 10 PΩ. Moving the electrodes closer would reduce the resistance linearly; you'd have to get the length of the air "conductor" very small (10 nm, if I did it right) or make the cross-section very large.
Humidity, pollution, ions from background radiation, etc. are going to lower the resistivity (and resistance) from the "pure, dry air" ideal, possibly by as much as 5 or 6 orders of magnitude, but that still leaves air in the same ballpark as an insulator like glass.
However, trying to make the resistor described above, with a 10 nm air gap, isn't going to work very well. Air has a breakdown voltage of about 20 kV/cm. At 10 nm, that's only 0.02 V, which isn't terribly useful. Not to mention that that distance is so small that quantum effects may start making life very weird.

@HardwareGeek said in The Official Status Thread:

But that would be for 1m2 electrodes?
-
@kazitor Yes. Or, as noted in my edit, you could increase the area and space the electrodes a more reasonable distance apart.
-
@HardwareGeek yeah, saw your edit just I posted.

Status: So our Alternative for Dummies (the political party known as AfD in Germany) received my request to make available all information they have about me according to the GDPR and afterwards, delete it.
If you don't remember what prompted this action of mine: These idiots setup a website where anyone can anonymously denunciate his or her teacher if the pupil in question feels that we're not "neutral" enough.
They had one month time to respond and they did reply with a request of their own that I should send them a notarized copy of my identity card or traveller's pass so they can verify that I am indeed me.
Getting a notarized copy of anything is a bit of a hassle, you can't get that everywhere and it usually isn't a free service. The GDPR law does allow for them to ask for identifying information. It's an obvious stalling tactic.
They did, however, overlook a minor thing: I asked for this information as a teacher of my school and also only provided my name and the name and address of my school - because that is, after all, what they're collecting at their site.
My id card does only provide my personal address - which is not something they should have, don't have the right to ask for and which does also not allow a cross-reference with my school. My id card also includes other bits of information they literally have no right to ask for.
And they did not ask me to blacken those bits of information.
Which means that I'll slap them around a bit with the paragraphs detailing just that, give them only a notarized statement of my school that I am indeed who I say I am and that am indeed a teacher of my school (that one is rather easy to get if you're friends with your principal).
And if they don't follow up I'll take them to court. I'm pissed off with those idiots.

Status: it's 20:55 on a Saturday, I'm not supposed to be working until Jan 7th. And yet here I am, fixing a production server.
Who in their right mind deploys changes
- on a Saturday afternoon

- to a server hosting a payment gateway
- and then has management call me for help?!
"Let's just redirect all traffic like this, what's the worst thing that could happen?"
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(www.)?website.se$ RewriteRule ^ http://www.website.se%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]
Redirecting all traffic back to itself is a brilliant idea. Apache will happily redirect you back to the page you are trying to access, until your browser gives up.

I've heard of it helping but I've never tried it before. I didn't want to leave the house but I can't get into work's VPN for some reason, so it looks like I'm going out anyway. I might drag myself to the chemist after hitting the server and see if they sell any.
