Times Newer Roman, where were you when I was in school??!?

@chozang If you are saying "eh", you were not.

Well, I saw the wasp, and he kind of looked like that. Adjusting for hyperbole, selective filtering, individual differences, etc., I think I was. It's recommended that you get medical treatment only if you were stung 10 times or more. I was stung once, it was rather painful, it was swollen for 3 days, that sounds about right. I was living in a forest hermitage at the time, and was stung during group meditation (silent, of course). Maybe the average candified Westerner would have reacted differently, I don't know.

@chozang Was it about this size?

More like this size:

@chozang Asian giant hornet != Japanese giant hornet.

Not the garage....not the garage.

How did you get to talking about Japanese giant hornets? I responded to a post about the Asian hornet, and I posted a picture of the Asian giant hornet.
Also, all Japanese giant hornets are Asian giant hornets, though not all Asian giant hornets are Japanese giant hornets.
Or, more formerly where A ≡ Japanese Giant Hornet and B ≡ Asian Giant Hornet.

Nope! thread is .
-
@chozang You posted a picture of the Japanese giant hornet.
-
@pie_flavor The Japanese giant hornet is a subspecies of Asian giant hornet.

This is the "Good Ideas" thread, not the "Nope" thread. The only Hornet that belongs here is this one:

@HardwareGeek Yeah, but canis lupus is pretty damn different from canis lupus familiaris.

if these had been available in wwii, nam etc imagine how much more we could have saved on shortarm maintenance

@HardwareGeek Not CVN, don't care...

And the Canadian variant

@Applied-Mediocrity But that's not where Rudolph is...

Every government should have a "Ministry for exterminating all the wasps and mosquitoes".
Heck with that. Figs rely on wasps for pollination. In fact, the relationship between specific species of fig and specific species of wasp is one-to-one, so if even one wasp species goes extinct, you've doomed an entire species of fig to extinction in the near future.
But do mosquitoes have any unique slot(s) in the biomes in which they live?

Apparently only the arctic tundra, eliminating them might doom some migratory birds who rely on them.
Otherwise even the 'mosquitofish' is said to be able to survive without mosquito in its diet.

We'll almost certainly eliminate some species, so why not be selective about it.

@Tsaukpaetra I had a friend who got ticketed for moving his mirrors to reflect a following car's headlights back on its driver's face. The car following him happened to be a police car.

I'd go to court.
: Your honor, I was simply moving my mirrors because I was being blinded by the car that was behind me. I can't aim something if I can't see it.
-
@mott555 I like the petty revenge element of this but dazzling the driver of the car behind you seems stupid.

That's when I want a message board for the back window ("Turn down your brights" pause "asshole!" repeat). The 2nd phrase is only added when they don't do it.
-
@dcon
Or a bumper sticker: "If you can read this after dark, turn your damn brights off!"

@izzion I think a system of gas jets that make 4-foot high letters of fire would be preferable.

I keep thinking about that light board they had in Independence Day. But it didn't work out too well for them...

It's not all bad news:

Not 100% sure this is a good idea, but I'm getting there:

Of course, there's also the making of.

@Tsaukpaetra I need some explanation about this animated Ben L. post...
What's the good idea?

@JBert
Playing Russian Roulette in VR instead of meatspace?
Cheating so as to win?
Mis-posting the video for cheap upvotes?It's like a Choose Your Own Adventure(tm) of Good Ideas!

@izzion you have the right idea. Instead of playing "spot TRWTF", spot the good idea!

That looks great for the building rubble use case. The cement use case would be better if you could wind the sheeting the other way too, but that'd make it a much more complex fitting…

@dkf I've seen pretty much that exact thing at least 20 years ago on a tractor trailer carrying potatoes. Except that was a fixed looping transport belt powered by the PTO.

The differentiating feature of this is that it's removable, rather than permanently building a conveyor belt into your vehicle.

You had me right up until the bagpipe music.Nope, definitely taking it with the bagpipe music for ambience.
And, concurring with @antiquarian, some gingers.

"There is unbound potential for nerdery in that two-second wake-up phrase"
Now that you mention it, and in keeping with the Star Trek theme, I now feel the disgusting urge to buy an Alexa just so I can trigger it with "Captain to engineering" and turn off the lights with "reduce our energy signature!"

Windows 10 non-WTF: The + . emoji picker shortcut works pretty well, and lets me do things like
var el = document.querySelector('nav'); console.log('is this 🦋 a nav bar?', el);

Windows 7 doesn't have an emoji picker. 😿
