Dear anyone who sells any kind of service or product:
If two companies offer me the same service, and one says on their website "costs 50€" and the other says "call us for pricing information", I already know which one I'll buy from. That is all.
Almost literally every "analysis services" company I sifted through a month or so ago.

Thank you for calling Dewey Cheatham and Howe sales, how may I help you?
Hi, how much is this?
Ahh, an excellent choice. And what are you planning to use it for? Here at DC&H we specialize in building holistic, whole-problem solutions tailor-made to our customers' needs.
I just want this. How much is it?
Are you an educational institution? How may employees do you have?
I just want to know its price.
And I want to sell it to you, but I need some more information so I canfigure out how much I can scam out of youoffer a complete, value-added solution.

Hot damn, good video and also the intellimouse was the most comfortable mouse for me. When they got rid of it I had to make do with MX518s, then they discontinued that too and it was over to a G400..which was also discontinued, so I've been limping along with this one with a dodgy right click.
A new Intellimouse ordered, hopefully it is actually as nice as I remember.
@TwelveBaud said in The Official Status Thread:

Interesting you mention that, it seems to be getting more common and I don't agree with it at all. We are 90% manufacturing and R&D is a separate cost-center, why am I getting screwed on my budget when the overall size of the business is essentially irrelevant for this purpose. </bitch>

Status: Goddammit IIS. All I want is a simple basic FTP over SSL server with IIS Manager users, installed on server core. How hard is this?
Can’t find the god damn config file to allow iis to use local users. Because the GUI config option only shows when managing iis locally (by design) and I can’t manage locally because server core. Gaaaah!

Oh, hey, the answer is you actually do install the IIS Management Console on your Server Core machine and it runs just fine :wharrrrrgarbl.jpg:

@topspin I'll have to do a return/replacement either tomorrow or on Saturday (depending on when I can be arsed to do the trip).
Just spent half an hour on the phone because, as I mentioned, my new Mac Mini does not resume from suspend - it just returns to a black screen (the monitor gets a signal, there's simply nothing on it). We then spent resetting the NVRAM and various other stuff, booting into safe mode, and finally into the disc utility to check the drive.
Well, it did wake from suspend exactly twice during those tries - but each time it took over 30 seconds to yield a picture.
Tech support finally suggest to re-install and I did just that. Now the Mac will boot, I can login and it seems that it wants to do some last setup steps. But before it can do that the screen goes black again.

I was. Unreal docs claim internally it's UTF-16, but digging so much deeper than I ever wanted to I found that in Linux it's UTF-32. because of course it is.
Linux generally uses UTF-8 so you don't usually need wchar_t over char, and on the flipside, when you actually use wide chars they're really wide.
It's Unreal. They fucked that up anyways. I need to convert regardless because UTF-16 is what ODBC uses.
//Header: SQLWCHAR* GetSQLWCHAR(FString inString); #ifdef PLATFORM_TCHAR_IS_4_BYTES //Some scratch variables only needed on Linux TArray<UTF16CHAR> Result; #endif //Source: //String Conversion for the Linuxes SQLWCHAR* FQueryWorker::GetSQLWCHAR(FString inString) { #ifdef PLATFORM_TCHAR_IS_4_BYTES Result.Reset(ConnectString.Len() * 2);//In the unlikely event it really needs to be the full amount of bytes TStringConvert<TCHAR, UTF16CHAR>::Convert(Result.GetData(), ConnectString.Len() + 1, *ConnectString, ConnectString.Len() + 1); return (SQLWCHAR*)Result.GetData(); #else //No need to convert if it's already UTF16-ish return (SQLWCHAR*)inString; #endif // PLATFORM_TCHAR_IS_4_BYTES }
Fuck yeah! And I didn't need an extra library!

Status: The adventures of a pedant with no handyman skills:
Did not get ripped off by AliExpress, the pictures (5 part framed canvas, digital print) actually arrived. Now to hang them on the wall...
Measured everything to high precision with the spirit level, marked exactly where to put in the nails. Then it occurs to me that my effort will be foiled by the hooks I got:If I want the pictures (60cm to 100cm height) to deviate less than half a cm out of the vertical at the lower end, and the two nails in the hook are < 1cm apart, I'll have to put those in with a ridiculous precision of less than 1/6th mm out of the horizontal. That's not physically possible, so that can't be what normal people do. But I don't see a way to nudge the nail in the wall / hook on the frame to correct for small errors afterwards, since the hook will just slide however it wants.
Maybe I should use two hooks per picture, that should be possible to do precisely. But it's twice the hooks and nails, and more importantly, twice the work.

Yes, with larger pictures I usually see a string-like arrangement instead of hooks.

The JetBrains IDEs (which are all language-bound profiles of a single core IDE, a very sensible way of doing things on their part) get quite unhappy once you really extend them to handling multiple languages at once. According to colleagues who have tried (I personally don't like the feel of them in the first place). When you're really into multi-language work and are having to do debugging across several systems at once, that's where Eclipse starts to get really good; that's the core problem it actually tackles. It's not everyone's situation, but it's mine and has been for years.
