Both revolve around The One True Way™, whether that is the way to ask and answer questions or the way to conduct a discussion, and both are more than willing to impose The One True Way™ on any godless infidels who are so unfortunate as to wander by. And though the community may choose some details, it is Jeff who defines, at least fundamentally, The One True Way™.

Why am I asking a dumb question I know the answer to? Clearly the answer is fuck Jeff with a cactus(purple only please!) and Spring sucks. No, I'm not trying to decipher the 11 levels of Satan-spawn that are Spring XML configuration why would you ask?

Lucky you.
I still haven't got a reply to my support question.
And this was after being on a conference call with our client & hubspot-- where the hubspot rep was just some sales rep who couldn't answer any support questions-- even though that conference call was explicitly for support-- and then told us to use the forum to ask questions because that's how they do support.
Useless runaround and relying on a technical solution to solve personal failures? Okay, now I see why they chose Discourse.

@djls45 Wasn't there some sort of thing where there's a default list of users who have admin access from the Discourse team? It was fucking ridiculous.
I must be misremembering it. Can't find it in Discourse source or NodeBB search results (for what that's worth).
Default root account email is theirs
FWIW it says in big scary text that you should change it.
And they might have made it example@example.com or something like that now

@izzion said in How can this be so wrong??? (AKA the Discopocalypse thread):
Jeff Atwood wrote on meta.d:
We have hundreds of sites running the official Discourse Docker image since 2014 with no issues whatsoever, and upgrading regularly without incident. Can you clarify exactly what the problem is?
He doesn't get it.
-
I dunno, sounds about right to me.
-
@boomzilla To be fair, that's something I'd write here when complaining about them. It's not how you write a support request.
Technical issues aside, he's being more of a jerk here than Jeff is (at least in that thread). If he came to me with "hurr durr", he'd get that right back.
-
What surprises me is that the Enterprise Discourse thread is still accessible despite being started by Obnoxious German Guy, while the "how can I get my install in a supported state?" one seems to have been Jeffed to kingdom come.
I would have expected the opposite.

I'm pretty sure Jeff has no idea how to set up a Discourse forum either. The Docker image is the only remaining record that suggests it might be possible to do so.

@PleegWat He is complaining "this is not enterprise". Self-hosting anything open-source without paying anybody will never be "enterprise". If your customers demand Discourse for whatever reason, and you're all clueless and enterprisey you pay for their supported hosting.

@Lorne-Kates I was pleasantly surprised that Dwarf Fortress players don't make that mistake when I released a completely broken version of df-ai this month:

Fun fact: If you put Dwarf Fortress in your PATH on Linux, bad things can happen due to the Dwarf Fortress script being named
df
.
-
@ben_lubar It does need more blockchain. I don't think I could invest, as a stakeholder at any level, in any building game that doesn't do obsessive cryptographic verification of all of its history forever.

I suppose the AI could try to play the game in a way where the dwarves meander around your filesystem and collect the files, then bring them back to the fortress where other dwarves figure out the filesizes and report to the console.

Makes me wonder which way CCP went when they migrated the EVE Online forums to Discourse. They've got enough damn server hardware that they could throw pretty much anything they want at Discourse to satisfy its need for resources, but I'm curious whether they just had it hosted for them to avoid the hassle.

Considering the "wait 1 frame before continuing processing" function was waiting 0 frames, pretty much anyone who tried running it?
-

So pretty much nobody. Nobody sane, anyway.

Why I cannot delete my topic
And what's wrong with just making the next post the new thread-starter, like any sane forum software should?
Oh, that's right, it's not sane forum software and it stores Posts and Replies as totally separate things and never the twain shall meet.
(Also it would change the owner of the thread itself... which only means renaming rights for as long as the OP is still editable, anyways.)

Nice. They have some sort of auto-bump-unanswered-support-threads process go rogue, and they fix the problem by deleting the effected threads.Classic @wood.

Oh, you're a paying customer. Yeah, that's different.
-
@JBert said in How can this be so wrong??? (AKA the Discopocalypse thread):
Oh, you're a paying customer. Yeah, that's different.
Why shouldn't it be the case?
-
@sockpuppet7 The difference between how a request by a paying and non-paying customer is handled should be:
to paying customer: We'll get on that right away.
to non-paying customer: We'll get to that when we have time.It should not be:
to non-paying customer: No one else seems to be having the same problem (because we've deleted all their requests), so you must be doing it wrong and also DELETE REQUEST.
-
@djls45 you've hit the nail on the head
-
@djls45
Eh.The paying customer's request should get more priority points... but both requests should have the potential for getting lumped in the WONTFIX bin if the cost versus benefit doesn't pay out.
-
@izzion and what better way to keep the benefit from creeping up than memory holing all the previous requests!
-
