@anotherusername Oh well makes sense, obviously anything I post is wrong because I'm such a stupid retard everybody should hate. Thanks for pointing it out.

You're welcome! You should post wrong stuff more often, so I can correct you.
edit: bonus points if it's easily googled wrong stuff, extra double bonus points if it was very likely stated on the same
canvas.getImageData()
docs that you were probably already reading.

I feel like we need a thread just for documenting every time you say this.

No need, got a filter right here

I just saw a Facebook ad on TV. And they talked about their great privacy, among other things.
I feel dirty now.
-
@topspin I get Facebook ads on my phone from the youtube app. Why? Google has to know that I have a Facebook account by now.
-
Not to completely shit on this project, but one line stood out:
Can you imagine a more powerful yet elegant pocket calculator than a readline-powered Python console?
...yes? at least, I can imagine a more elegant calculator
-
@bb36e Because you're watching YouTube on the YouTube app and not on the Facebook app. They need to remind you to Facebook more.
-
@bb36e
They want me to type that on a phone? In what looks like VI or some shit like that?
-
They want me to type that on a phone?
That's what you have a USB keyboard in your other pocket for, amirite?
-
@topspin casual users might find a touchscreen to be more 'intuitive', but IMO after getting used to Vim I think that a touchscreen is in fact one of the least intuitive interfaces you could use...shame that apple sheeple refuse to see the light
-
@bb36e Fair enough, that's pretty much exactly what I'd expect from someone who "got used to Vim".
-
@topspin Just because it's true doesn't mean its a defensible position.
-
Opened my laptop to this.
Apparently Windows wants me to love the lockscreen?

I wouldn't have thought it's possible, but Google's captcha actually got even worse since the last time I complained about it. It just took me 12 tries to get the damn thing correct. I might have gotten one wrong, but quite certainly not all of them.
And apparently there's two different kinds: One version you just pick different squares of a single image that contain something (e.g. traffic signs), another you pick different images which match something (e.g. store fronts). But the latter version reloads new pictures once you've picked correct ones, and now apparently they're rate limiting that, since it took 5 second for each of those pictures to fade in.So either their captcha is incredbily retarded, or that's somehow their intentional punishment for browsing with tracking protection enabled.
Seriously Google, FUCK YOU.
-

"If you don't choose to keep our tracking cookie, expect a Bad Time..."
-
@tsaukpaetra Yeah, the Godfather's version of choice.

"Select all images containing modern art"
-
@aitap Are you seriously telling me that's a captcha you have encountered somewhere? Did it accept immediately pressing Verify?
-
@jbert No (thank $deity!), but I wouldn't put it past them to turn the webcam on (there's a JS API for that, right?), focus on the iris and start asking personal questions in weird voice as a way of verifying humanity of website visitors.
But the latter version reloads new pictures once you've picked correct ones, and now apparently they're rate limiting that, since it took 5 second for each of those pictures to fade in.
Bonus WTF: you can see the images being loaded in the developer toolbar much faster than you see them in the CAPTCHA frame. It's as if they intentionally discriminate against people, because simple automated scripts cannot feel frustration (and it's well within capabilities of an ANN developer to train a neural network to pass those picture tests).
-
Because I read that other tortoises will help stranded friends flip right side over, and I wanted to see if it's true.

https://i.imgur.com/DzCGWfT.pngWhen reading your previous message, I was gonna reply "oh, sure, you had to have an underscore in your username, right? You're the kind of person who likes to spoil the fun for everybody else ". Then I thought "nah, that's a cheap joke, even for TDWTF."
Once again, it proves that web development is worse than satire.
-
@anotherusername I've seen it on TV, it's true and heart-warming.
-
@topspin is it still heart warming if my recipe for baked tortoise calls for 2 tortoises?
-
@pie_flavor
pie_flavour
?
-
@anotherusername This is just a normal CAPTCHA. The response is "The tortoise must also strive.", systems may also accept "The tortoise must also learn", "The tortoise is too heavy", "Fuck the tortoise", or any reference to a giraffe.
Get with the times, man.
-
@pie_flavor Double underscore??

I'm not sure if I should believe you or not, considering that half of the time you don't even appear to pass the Turing test...
-
@anotherusername The reasons for that are complicated.

Double underscore. pie__flavor. I wanted pie_flavor, but that wasn't available, so I signed up as pie__flavor. Why the fuck does a double underscore break anything. especially considering the Twitch I signed up with is pie___flavor.

For what it’s worth, the dealership confirmed it would sell a car to a robot, so long as it had a social security number an ID.
Phew!

Presumably, it's a template/parameter marker.
-
@tsaukpaetra Except, a robot cannot legally enter into a contract, so I'm not sure how they'd be able to. And even if the robot could legally enter into the contract, it'd presumably still have to check the box that says "I'm not a robot", which would be fraud.

But how would the paper tell the difference?
-
@tsaukpaetra The paper records the difference in the different patterns of fiber damage.

I'll do you one better: I was at a tech conference and one of the booths was showing off a biometrics identity confirmation pen. The pen worked by recording a sort of histogram of pressure points combined with point grid, comparing it to trained values of the desired user's signatures.
I was able to duplicate three different user's signatures in that demo to satisfactory-or-better accuracy.
The paper ain't got shit on it.

Searching.... No, that event was in High School. Actually, around that time was the major event that broke the Stage when I tried running too many personalities at once. Fun times...
