I had that happen on a flight recently. We were an hour late because we had to wait for the replacements to arrive from an incoming flight.

Yes.... Yes, I rather think it was. Upon first attempt to boot I assume it hung because there were no Active Directory Domain Controllers available, so it just sat there for 20 minutes while I worked to get Java installed so I could use the IPMI program (fuck Java).
Rebooting interactively now, yup, it got stuck waiting for (any) controller to become available. Fine. Luckily FreeNAS has this wonderful python system and you can just Ctrl-C it and it will try to move on.
Many, many Ctrl-C invocations later and we get to the normal menu.
Four out of eight jails failed to start, citing misconfiguration of em0 (the network card) as the problem. That's fine, they're not mission-critical anyways.
Samba is still fucked though...
Attempting to restart the AD connection...
Yeah, it's fucked. Wonderful.
I knew I should have just risked it and blow out the case while standing on a ladder precariously....

Remember that USA had 60 year head start on having credit cards over eastern Europe. The cards-to-people ratio in Poland reached 1 only a few years ago.

STATUS: Half-dead trying to dig a trench through my garden. Of course I live in an area with incredibly rocky soil. And I need to dig the trench through the warmest patch of the garden. (The area between the house and the garage.) And we're having a weekend of summer heat. I wanna go out and relax somewhere, but I also need to get done with the digging asap so I can get fast and stable internet to my house as fast as possible.
-
@atazhaia Can't you borrow or rent a trencher from somewhere?
-
@gąska Yeah, but once you have modern banking, it's a VERY quick curve.
Basically EVERYONE with a bank account is going to have a debit card. That's a 1:1 ratio right there. Credit cards are just cream on top of that.
-
@rhywden For some reason, people are inexplicably unwilling to rent heavy equipment. Perhaps on the assumption that the rental agency wants to see some sort of license or operator's certificate?
I could throw $3900 at the local CAT dealer and they'd hand me the keys to a D9 for a day.

@rhywden said in The Official Status Thread:

Trying to do it cheaply. Although if I had known how difficult my lawn would be to dig in I'd probably have done that. Oh, well. All done now. Hopefully I'll at least get a nice tan from this!
-
@weng said in The Official Status Thread:

Agreed. Though you might overestimate how quick it is. Also, Poland is past the rapid growth phase - it's roughly 6% increase per year now.

Working people, sure. Old people, not so much. Also, many children have neither an account nor a card until about 15.

Actually, credit cards are dropping. Slower than debit cards are growing, but still.

In Germany you can get a simple trencher for a 60 cm deep trench for 200€ a day. The machine is a bit larger than a lawn mower and doesn't really look too complicated.
I mean, a D9 would be a bit of an overkill just to be able to lay some fiber. On the other hand, if your neighbours get annoyed by the noise you could create a fortified MG nest real quick.

Computer just locked up with a dead white screen, no mouse cursor, can't do Ctrl+Alt+Del, etc. Plot twist: I haven't even taken the new Windows 10 update yet. Huh. Well, thank God for Word's AutoRecover (hopefully).
Edit: No AutoRecover for me. RIP. And also no Internet connection, even after a couple restarts. What the fuck.
-
@rhywden I looked up some prices here last year because my dad was reorganizing the garden. I noted that typically rent wasn't that expensive, but delivery both cost money and was mandatory - suggesting the most common problem is unskilled people being unable to secure them to the trailer properly.

Will try it. Now to wait three weeks for delivery...
While I wait, lets see what server software I'll be dealing with...
What the fucking shit!?!?
Ok, I guess it comes with a shitton of example sensor things or whatever, but what about this is "easy" anything at all?
And why does it look like an old-school iPhone app?
Well, whatever, let's see if I can clear out all the garbage and try to add my one (not yet created) sensor based on the tutorial...

-
@tsaukpaetra said in The Official Status Thread:

Ah, wasn't so hard, looks like stuff mostly stored in xml files. Not sure about the database stuff, but since this is a test run I don't care yet.
Created a sensor node, created a group, added the sensor to the group, and finally tested the endpoint by navigating to
http://localhost/Api/EasyIoT/Control/Module/Virtual/N1S0/ControlLevel/99.0
(That's pretty hot, it's supposedly in Celsius).Seems to work? I can't seem how to configure it for multiple sensors on a single node though (seems to be not supported?). We'll see.
So, moving on to Arduino. Which is a Java application so we'll see how that goes.
First problem:
This apparently means... it can't create something? But what is it creating? And where?
Internet seems to indicate permissions issues, but of course that's not the real issue.I'm assuming Java can't deal with the sketchbook folder being on a network share (where my Documents folder is being redirected to), so I had to magic incantate the default preferences file to say "Just put t into the current directory dammit!", which surprisingly worked (I say surprisingly since Aruduino is on the same network share...).

I don't know, but it's fucking hilarious!
It's a ZFS pool if that gives any hints, though it's set to be compressed and I thought the block size was dynamic...

Apparently "absolute unit" is a euphemism for "pill" which is a colloquialism for.... Something?
Stupid bell ends, keeping culture to themselves....
-
@tsaukpaetra Based on what I can find, it's a reference to someone big and/or stocky. Though it's got a similar meaning in Australian English with an added "dumb" built in.
-
@blakeyrat apparently "absolute unit" is just a really nice specimen of livestock?
And this "four... of apocalypse" is just a generic unfunny joke about there being four things in the picture.
