Upgraded my MacBookPro to High Sierra (3rd time's the charm). Holy fuck.
xcode9.2 + OSX10.12 -> wxWidgets takes about 1hr to build (expected, it's a low-end macbook)
xcode9.3 + OSX10.13 -> wxWidgets takes over 8hr to build.
Nothing in the library changed
So I know what I have to look forward to if I try building an iOS app on my 2011 MacBook Air! Woo! (It's fully updated already...)

Have finally managed to upgrade my laptop to Win 10/FCU.
I couldn't get the update to run no matter which of the many "fixes" for the issue found on the web I tried
Ended up doing a full backup and Nuke n Pave.
That worked. I wonder if it was related to the fact the laptop came w/ Win7, was in place upgraded to Win8.1, then in place upgraded to Win10; causing the FCU update to go right to "Nope,Nope,Nope".

Status: I am going to just take it easy for the rest of the day.
I couldn't fall asleep last night, so I just stayed up, and figured I'd smooth the gaps with caffeine.
I used some caffeine gum, and thought it wasn't working against this level of sleep, so I went down to the student store and got a 5-hour energy and drank half of it.
In my half-asleep stupor I had not realized what time I had taken the gum. I thought it had been five hours before and it had actually been two.
I don't really know how to describe what I feel like. All I know is that my nerves are not happy with me. I am not sure what my heart is saying either.

I find a 20 minute catnap or so can be remarkably refreshing. The key is to avoid REM sleep, because once you start that you need a full sleep cycle (about 90 minutes) or you're just going to end up groggy with nothing gained.

What the FUCK?!If I happen to find some time tomorrow, I'll see if I can't record this and put it in the Bugs forum, unless @ben_lubar or @julianlam already know about it. It's a really fucked up bug.

STATUS: So, the caretaker here has appropriated a private (as in owned by a colleague) server to use for his own purposes, and I suspect he's been taking parts from the lab servers to upgrade it, as one of them was missing RAM and harddrives when I was testing them to prepare them for labs. This is obviously not good as he has asked nobody for permission to do so, and the bastard has become an expert at being not visible around the building nowadays being busy in other places. I kinda miss him just sitting in his office doing fuck all as at least then he was easy to get hold of.
-
@atazhaia If a followup I did find him and he did procure more RAM, giving me two servers with 8 GB and one with 6 GB, which is an improvement from 8 + 2 + 0. Also, I got a couple 600 GB harddrives, We also told him we had need for the server he appropriated and he agreed to move it back to the network lab. I have also built up a sizable collection of broken hardware that needs to be sent to recycling.
Also, who is the idiot who tried mixing ECC memory with ordinary memory in the shit computers that don't even support ECC memory? Herpderp.

STATUS
Exciting day in the office.
They finally announced I'm leaving the company. One of the Indian contractors has already been shipped in to replace me. They flew him in so fast, they didn't even consider none of his strange Indian plugs will work here. So we are now trying to find some adapter for his laptop...

Eh? So it is a known issue? The only thing I thought was on @julianlam's radar currently for this site was the revision history issue. This bug affects revision history by causing a null edit, I suppose, but is in no other way related.

Oh, ok

@cartman82 said in The Official Status Thread:

Be careful; I've seen Indians resort to hotwiring mains sockets to work around that sort of thing. Fortunately, the idiot who tried it in front of me used the earth connection instead of neutral, tripped the ELCB for the entire floor of the building, and had a lot people telling him exactly why he should never do that again.

Oh, ok
That's the one.
It was literally only when he took out the charger and was about to plug it in that he realized this might be a problem.
He went off trying to buy a travel adapter. With his almost unintelligible English, I don't suspect it'll be easy.
-
@cartman82 If it's not a sealed-on plug (and the voltages are the same) buying a loose plug and attaching it to his current lead may be the easiest solution.

Or maybe even if the voltage isn't the same. A lot of modern power supplies support either voltage.

Why wouldn't they?
I guess they briefly owned Atlas before selling it off to Facebook. Right now AFAIK, Microsoft doesn't own any ad exchange, and only Facebook or Google own exchanges big enough to give them the coverage they need.
-
@e4tmyl33t said in The Official Status Thread:

This work Dell laptop with a i5 and 16 GB of memory is running it at about 1 frame per every 2 seconds. God knows it's not a powerful machine, but I think the game's just coded like shit.
-
@e4tmyl33t Not sure what you define as 'running like crap' - are you going by the visual framerate or the music? I've figured out that if you're going at maximum horizontal speed then the music is just the regular Mario music at the regular tempo.
-
@pie_flavor I wouldn't know about the music, I have sound muted in every way possible on my work machine normally. I was talking about how it seemed to run at about negative 4 FPS.
-
@blakeyrat I thought they normally use AOL these days.

The entire game is a joke. That's the point of it. They are not trying to produce a great user experience here.
