Status: Why is CAD so stinking hard to make a good UI for? I ended up resorting to Paint3D for my modeling (good thing I don't need accuracy, just 3D projections that are really hard for the artistically challenged like myself).
This is the core of the Astral Plane of my D&D setting, and a place I have a group fighting through right now. Only thing I couldn't get right was those outer big rings--they're supposed to be larger and toroidal, but the toroids had the wrong outer/inner diameter ratios and I couldn't figure out how to fix it.

@ben_lubar Sort of, but this is a giant machine in the Astral Plane that powers the entire universe. There's a giant squid-thing trying to break it, and they're trying to stop it. The outer rings are conduits, like accelerator rings; the power comes in and goes out through those spikes on the central core. The spheres are actually not solid (they're filigreed on the outside, some with gears) and beings live and work inside of them. The final fight will take place on that central core.
This whole thing is floating in the middle of what appears to be an endless bubble of air; no ground in sight. Falling is considered a bad thing.

Which way does gravity point? Toward the matter or just arbitrarily down? Because if you simulated a planet with constant (not based on position or proximity) gravity, you'd end up with a very confusing world where you could walk off a building and keep floating but not walk down stairs.

Status: So, last night Azure apparently died the game servers in that datacenter...
Queue 40 consecutive pings of panic from the Master Server.
I guess in this case it's a good thing nobody is in the game at this point...
-
@ben_lubar gravity, well, depends. In or very close to the structure, it points inward (so you can walk around normally. Once you get about 20 feet out, it points toward the plane of the structure. So if you fall too fast, you end up orbiting the structure. If you are dropped somewhere between the rings, you'll yo-yo. Most creatures who live here have wings, though.
Yes I know that makes very little physical sense. It's quite literally magic.

Status: Just realized that I never updated my W-4 when I got married, so I've still been claiming 1 allowance at the single rate, instead of 2 at the married rate.
Which might've made sense if my wife had a full-time job with an income comparable to mine, but she doesn't...
Guess I'll be getting a big return?

Status: There's a series of games I never played. There were two whole series, really, and each had an entire boring prequel anime, and some pretty impressive CG movies. I tried playing the first game in the first series, but the first hour was horribly boring, and then I didn't save and got killed and decided it wasn't for me. I mean, it felt like a bad MMO you had to play alone.
But then I noticed something today.
So I guess I'll probably play the second series.

Yeah, even only doing that part-time, those sailors pay really REALLY well.

Car's been a bit less responsive, and way less fuel efficient lately. Wonder what it could be? Do some reading, the easiest thing to check is spark plugs. Okay, I can spend $20 (well, $30 after I had to buy a deep socket for my wrench set). Maybe it will work? Surely they aren't THAT bad...
oh.

I recommend instructing your immune system to delete the infection. The problem with that is that the record format for identification is a horrid mess of exceptions and undocumented values. It only gets worse from there, as an AddTarget command looks almost exactly like a PardonTack command, but with the sigg and prtg parameters being offset by two ticks from the other...

Status: Talked the horrible IBM-provided IT guys at my company to replace my shitty-ass Lenovo with a Dell which works. Despite the Lenovo blue-screening once or twice a day, and filling the Windows event log with "warning: Windows recovered from a CPU memory parity error", that was not enough to automatically qualify me for a new computer. What a shit.
Either way, the IT guy is working against the behemoth and requisitioning me one anyway.
-
@blakeyrat I wish they'd replace my daily-bluescreening Dell.

Why do you have such massive infrastructure for a game that nobody plays? Why not just have one or two game servers on hot standby? That's gotta be horrific burn rate...

It is, to the tune of $860/mo despite nobody being online. This structure was not made by me.
No, I redesigned it so we need maybe four VMs, including one for chat and one for the Master Server, and all game servers are create-on-demand.

Status: Holy fuck, why is it so damn difficult to make an HTML5 drag-and-drop thing?!?! I've tried no less than four separate packages so far, and all of them have seemingly been so buggy as to ruin all confidence that a simple "drag this button-like-thing onto list-item-like-thing and tell me what the two were" is almost beyond my reach...

Indeed not. Apparently it's "Coffeescript", which is (apparently) the same thing, but more python-y? I guess? I don't know.
It's one of the scripts I've been trying to implement so I can drag and drop an element onto another. It's very broken, since apparently it was designed for an older version of Vue.js.
-
@tsaukpaetra Coffeescript compiles to Javascript, IIRC.

Yeah, I used a translator site to do that.
Now I'm working on figuring out what variables it's expecting to be global () and mitigating or correcting for that.
