Thoughts:
- Is the 250GB SSD large enough to do your building there before shipping it off to the HDD for long term storage?
If I were to put the entire project file alongside the OS? Technically barely. The plan is to splat the majority of the project onto the spinner and had-link in the intermediates and cache folders (which weigh in about 20gb but are the files that get accessed randomly more often than anything else). Build results get shunted off to the NAS when done.
- The Core i5-7640X probably would meet your single threaded performance requirements just as well for $100 less, and/or you could invest that $100 in a better cooler to gain some combination of running colder or overclocking room
I just picked the one with the highest score on some benchmark site (don't have it up on my phone ATM). Will probably swap it for comparison this evening.

In light of that, I'll revise my suggestion on what to do with the $100 from a CPU change -> buy a big enough SSD for the everything. Though either way should work :)

Compiled some anecdotal data and it seems to me that I only get any significant volume of hot water when the HVAC is off.
I know nothing about home... stuff... at all, so I really don't understand how those two systems are connected, but that seems to suck.

Status: trying to come up with a clever way to have a bunch of alarms latch up for at least long enough for the HMI to poll and detect them.
There does not appear to be a way to detect when the poll occurs, or I'd just latch them back down after it does.
Storage space is pretty limited, so adding a timer block for every alarm would probably not be an option, although it'd do exactly what I need.
I could just set up one global timer, and turn them all off when it elapses (or use the system clock), but that would not guarantee a minimum ON time.
I could probably manage to store an extra bit for every alarm, to hold its previous state... that would let me guarantee the alarms stayed on for at least one full timer cycle (only turn them off when the timer expires if they were ON last time it expired)... (they'd immediately latch back on if the alarm is still active)

If so, it's possible for the HVAC and hot water to "share" water heaters. (It's a really stupid idea to actually install it that way for various reasons, but.)
Other than that, it could be one of those 2-contacts breakers that's supposed to be providing 220 volts only providing 110 because one of its contacts are loose. That happened to me a few years ago-- turned out my "broken" water heater was actually a broken breaker. Before that happened, I wasn't even aware breakers could break. (You can replace a breaker yourself with a flashlight and an abundance of caution-- just don't tell anybody who's associated at all with licensed electricians you did it.)
But, again, it'd be stupid to put a water heater and a HVAC system on the same breaker for various reasons, most important of which is that it'd trip the breaker by accident like 4 times a week.

@blakeyrat said in The Official Status Thread:

I don't know. This is something I'll investigate. Important to note I'm in an apartment complex and renting, which is why I don't have a lot of knowledge in this area. Trying to learn, though, as maintenance is not always helpful and my living situation won't be the same forever.

Do you have radiators? I mean, it's not like it takes a PhD to tell...
If you're in a really snazzy expensive place you could have radiant heat installed under the floorboards, but you'd know that because you'd be bragging about how great it was at every social event you attended.

It's pretty common around here (NL) for central heating and hot water to originate from the same natural gas powered heater. Air conditioning for homes is uncommon though; it does not commonly get that hot here.

No.

That's precisely the setup I was envisioning when I was wondering about the cause, but it doesn't sound like it's that common here.

@heterodox Then I'd take an electrical tester to the breaker panel and make sure the breakers are putting out the voltages and amperages they claim to be.
If that's not it, time to call in the expert frankly.

Status: Had to contact Mojang support about a stolen Minecraft account. Probably going to be a bit since their help says they're still replying to cases received on Dec 26, but it's not like I'm in any rush to play (in fact, I don't recall playing since sometime in 2016).
Just another site in the list of "need to secure it and put it in a password manager" that was missed.
Find it kinda silly that their system for migrating "from a Minecraft account to their all-in-one Mojang account" has, as a part of the process, specifying the new email address to switch to, despite needing to enter the email address from the Minecraft account. At least they sent an email sent to say the migration is done so I became aware of the theft.
-
@chaostheeternal TR is you not having migrated it yet. In the support chat, we file users who haven't migrated their accounts at the same level of intelligence as users who ask for support with a pirated copy. Mojang's been pushing account migration for years.
-
@pie_flavor said in The Official Status Thread:

Apparently pretty shittily, since I never heard about it until now. No emails and nothing on the Minecraft client (though I definitely recall plenty of shilling for Scrolls and Realms).
-
@chaostheeternal They wouldn't email you, since your email is not part of your account if you didn't migrate. And it was definitely pushed on the older client; by now they're assuming that everyone who can, has, in regards to just playing the game. However, if you try to change your skin, for instance, they'll still push it at you.
-
@pie_flavor said in The Official Status Thread:

This is what they ask for to do a migration.
So, obviously email is part of your account before you migrate. So they had the ability to send emails to tell people to migrate, they chose not to.
-
@chaostheeternal No, you are entering your email that you would like to use with your account, not necessarily the email that was used to sign up with the account. Which is why yours got stolen.
-
@pie_flavor Here's the migrate page:
It asks for your Minecraft credentials (email, username, password), then the email you want to use for the new Mojang account. Meaning, because you seem to be mentally deficient, that email addresses were on record and linked to Minecraft accounts.
Another thing for you to ponder, if emails weren't on record, how would I have even gotten an email telling me a migration happened? Someone would be pretty dumb to migrate it to an email address they don't have access to.
-
@chaostheeternal Look, no matter how much you want to rationalize it, it's your own fault it got stolen. Especially since, by the way, they didn't just pull that username and password from nowhere.
-
@pie_flavor What could anybody possibly steal from a Minecraft account anyway? "Oh no they took my custom skin that makes me look like Chewbacca, it's 18 pixels tall!"

No shit:
I said in The Official Status Thread:
Just another site in the list of "need to secure it and put it in a password manager" that was missed
But it was you who went all in about Mojang supposedly trying so hard to tell everyone to migrate, except they didn't because they could've emailed people when they introduced it or after awhile emailed those that were still on old accounts, then switched to say they didn't have emails on record on the old accounts to send emails to, which was completely wrong.
-

Man, I did not realize you could reach this level of idiocy.
Your account is your copy. You paid your $27 for this account.
Your account is your savegame. Everything on every server you played on is stored by account.
