I.... really have no idea what this means. Does your hipousness prevent bending?
Yes yes, I literally said that in many more words. Glad we have emoji to express such complex concepts...
Don't try to outweird me. I get stranger things than you free with my breakfast cereal.
Ah. I'm cheap and buy bulk, so no special prizes for me.

Status: Had one of my classes do an exam today. I threw them a bone with the first task, basically doing a: "Calculate the missing value." which also tested if they were capable of dealing with prefixes properly. The whole thing looked like this:
The formula needed (W = U * q) was included in the list of formulas on the back (I don't make my pupils learn formulas by rote).
One pupil promptly complained that she didn't understand what she was supposed to do. I wasn't sure what to tell her, considering that everyone else was capable of understanding the task (whether they did it correctly is a whole different beast, however).

@e4tmyl33t Maybe I can do this. I exported the Twitch streams of last night's raid to Youtube and I already have comment trolls telling me we sucked. I feel like a big-time streamer now! :D

@e4tmyl33t You sucked!
I'm helping!

Everyone intends to roll it back. But we don't know how to diagnose it if we do that. do I do!?

Do you have logs to do a post mortem with? Otherwise rollback now, add logging and push back out again to get data maybe
-
@weng I mean, I would say spend $50 or so to get your feet wet with something like this before going all in like that:
But every man's level of investment is his own, I suppose.

@cursorkeys We're trying to add more logging, but i have no idea whats going on at all. It all works on other people's machines, just not in our development environment.

Status: Updated Bob (a FreeNAS box) to the latest.
Apparently they went full in on the new GUI.
They also fully removed Warden (the jail system) and replaced it with iocage. That's great! Except... they didn't provide an update path for warden jails to be migrated to iocage. boo!!!
Also, it's very much not obvious how to set up mount points in iocage, so I had to guess my way around that.<sarcastic>Luckily I'm so smart... </sarcastic>

Some days I really hate computers. Full details might be a bit too doxxy, but let's just say
/home/me: Stale file handle
is not a good thing. And I have no idea how, when I managed to get my home directory back, it was a two-month-old snapshot. Good thing all my real work is in /proj/some_path.

Uh, huh....
Yeah, but everything else works like a dream. Even Smash Bros, and that's supposed to be at 60fps instead of 30 and a lot more people have problems with it than with BotW. I'm struggling to figure out the bottleneck because I have the full shader cache and all Nvidia settings cranked to full.

Not my responsibility; that's on IT — the guys who didn't respond to a high-priority service ticked until after my boss's boss had escalated to the on-site IT guy (at a site that is not my site nor his site), and he'd already fixed it — except for the old home directory, but I didn't have much, if anything, important there.

I got given a book of the original Grimm's Fairy Tales. I think children today would have PTSD if you read most of them to them. Amazing how its been sanitised over the years. Rapunzel gets knocked up by the Prince for one thing.

Not an attitude I recommend. Yes, they should keep backups, but keeping your own is a good idea too…

I was looking for a pattern in the lines, assuming it was something about a sequence of prefixes. That's not a particularly clear way of laying out the question IMO

They've actually done a series of experiments where they were supposed to jot down the results just like that.

STATUS: Going on work trips to do promotion on expos is exhausting. Wednesday we drove down, and ended up in a blizzard where the road (the largest main road through Sweden) had turned into a washing board from the heavy snowfall. Also, BMW really is overpriced shite. We had a brand new BMW and the comfort was arse, as the seats were too narrow and there was a lack of leg room.
They day after we came to the site of the big event to construct our exhibition and found out that we only had until 18:00 to finish, not 22:00 as we had been told. So we had to rush build everything in 7 hours, to then be told that we did have an exception so we'd have more time to finish.
And today it's starting! 3 days of extreme nerding is happening and I am here as an exhibitor rather than as a normal visitor. Seeing it from a different angle is interesting, as yesterday I could get a behind the scenes look and see it all being built and prepared. The good thing is that I still should have time to walk around and enjoy myself too. Take a look at the latest hardware from Asus, MSI, Intel and others. I can also hope to walk home with a second GTX 1070, if I can get one for free again. (Ok, I will never have that kind of luck ever again I think. :P )

Yes, but typing them is a pain. Also, scientists write crap code anyway, so it doesn't matter
NB: I was a computational quantum chemist. I wrote crap code (in python, even). Doesn't help being entirely self-taught by reading other code written by scientists...

By a happy coincidence, yaml comments and markdown headings are indicated by the same character, which means I can produce a halfway-pleasant documentation page from a config file with minimal effort. I love it when a plan comes together.

So while my neighbor's dog is the friendliest animal in the world, their cat... not so much
It's normal for cats to dislike strangers, but this one is different. He seemed friendly at first, he rubbed against my leg, I petted his back. Then I scratched his head. Then... he swiftly grabbed my arm with his claws and bit my hand as hard as he could.
Wtf? I've never seen sudden aggressiveness like that.

Status: So, I went back one last time to my 3D printer because one part I had ordered 6 weeks back finally arrived - it was a sensor which was supposed to help with calibrating the z-axis (no more manually moving to the four corners twice and adjusting screws).
I followed the included manual to the letter (even used the same colour for the various cables to prevent mixing them up).
However, either the mere act of connecting the wires of the sensor or the upload of the new firmware seems to have short-circuited something because the LCD display now won't display anything.
I first thought I might have bricked the board but the weird thing is that if I use the manual control of tools like Simplify3D I can see the various commands and responses flowing back and forth.
If only the original Prusa printer didn't have a delivery date sometime in February next year...

@dcon In my experience, the back and the top of the head are the safest spots to scratch a cat.
